  1. I’ve been watching Laiman ATWT all night.

And it is so damn good. I have to say that at the time I thought the show was stupid as hell but it is Marland compared to today’s soaps. There are definitely things I’m rolling my eyes at, but there are also things I didn’t like at the time that I can appreciate now.

i just watched the episode where Katie is confronted by her stalker (not realizing that she had a stalker, thinking she and Henry had made the whole thing up) and it was so fabulous. Suspenseful, well acted, and surprisingly great production values that you would never see now. Best part of all is knowing that the payoff from that episode wouldn’t come till a full 4 months later. This was back when soaps made you wait for a payoff.

The GOP didn't do much to help their own case toward being taken seriously during the Obama years when they also screeched about Michelle Obama's arms, the length of Sasha and Malia's skirts and that Obama having had the "audacity" to wear a tan suit on Easter Sunday.

You have to pick and choose your battles but Americans, including the media should be able to focus on more than one newsworthy topic at a time.

Sorry, but the anti-Trump crowd has gone as insane as the anti-Obama crowd ever did, if not worse. There are people here in this thread mocking him for posting wrestling GIFs. WWE fans tend to be more working class and will see that as an attack on them. And all this stuff about Trump "disrespecting the presidency" is the same [!@#$%^&*] that was thrown at Obama.

The Dems should be laser focused on this horrific healthcare bill right now, with everyone repeating the same talking points ad nauseum on all the news shows every day. Mueller is working on Russia, let him do his job!

Van Jones was caught on video by pro-Trump ground saying that the Russia story is a "nothingburger."

I'm so sick of him (Van Jones that is). <_<

He is right. What will come of it? Nothing. It's just like the Republicans who screeched about Benghazi for 4 years.

And plus, people just don't care. Talk about things that actually affect them, like the Healthcare bill.

  4. Dems must dump Pelosi ahead of 2018 elections. The fact is, Karen Handel was able to drive Republicans to turn out tonight by showing them a picture of Nancy Pelosi. As long as Republicans can do that, Dems have no chance at regaining the House.

In retrospect, I cannot understand why so many in this country wrote off the Carter administration after everything that happened under Nixon and Ford.  I, for one, would welcome someone like Carter in the WH right about now.

I think similar situation to what is playing out right now. Republicans have unified control of government but are finding that their different constituencies have vastly different visions of how to proceed and they are thus having difficulty moving forward on legislation. They are also overextended as a result of huge losses of Democratic seats under Obama. The Democrats found themselves in that same exact place under Carter.

  6. Richard/John Pleshette were amazing. I just don't know how Richard would have fit in with the new Knots Landing of season 5. But John Pleshette is an amazing actor/writer and I could never hate Richard as horribly as he treated Laura. And the Karen/Richard friendship in spite of how Richard treated Laura pissed me off too at times but I get it. It's like, the two liberal educated Jews on the block (and the characters weren't, but the actors were) gravitated toward each other. Richard was an amazing character. And it wasn't always in the writing, because I should've hated that emotionally abusive dick. It was in the episode "Night" written by John Pleshette, and it was in John Pleshette's performance, and it was in John Pleshette's chemistry with Constance and Michele.

  7. Holy cow, what was up with Diana's hair in that clip? It looks like a clown wig - except without with the rainbow colors. I know this was the 80s - but geesh!!!

Her hair at the beginning of season 6 was worse IMO.

  8. Claudia Lonow was originally jealous of Lisa Whelchel of The Facts of Life, and later Survivor, because Lisa was so pretty. Claudia: "Later on, when I was on Knots Landing and she was on The Facts of Life and gained all that weight, I'd watch her show and scoff as I poured myself a shot of vodka, did a line of blow, and cleaned the blood off my nose. If only she had my self-control!"

lol, I love that quote. She's a hoot and a half.

  9. I love how Olivia was going to take over the Diane roll in the show. Her drug scenes with Abby were great as well. I had forgotten that Eric had slapped her. Even I wanted to slap her...lol

Yeah she definitely deserved it. I don't think that Claudia Lonow (Diana) was a bad actress. She has since joked about the fact that she was constantly high on coke at this time, so that might be the reason why she was a little "intense."

  10. Which season did he slap her? What did she do to provoke him? (Sorry, I'm not very familiar with KL past the first couple of seasons.)

Sid's oldest child, from his first marriage, meanwhile (the one played by Karen Allen in the pilot) is on the Island of Misfit TV Characters along with Chuck Cunningham, Judy Winslow, Carl Dixon, etc....

He slaps her in season 5.

  11. Not that I ever wanted for Benson and Stabler to hook up (IMO, their romance would've been too distracting from the rest of the show) but it kind of pisses me off how Amaro and Rollins got to "do the do" in under three years and all Benson/Stabler 'shippers got in over a decade was a few lingering glances. I can't explain why it pisses me off, it just does. At the very least, though, Neal Baer should have given those fans a scene or two where Benson and Stabler come close, but one or the other pulls back and actively explains why it could never happen. As it was, Benson/Stabler 'shippers were just left hanging.

Plus, maybe I'm wrong, but I just don't find Warren Leight to be all that fantastic as a writer and producer. Whenever he runs a series ("SVU," "Criminal Intent," "Lights Out"), the series tend to just...lay there. The characters might be well-drawn, but the stories always come across as dull, lacking any real "OMG!!!!" moments.

I thought the first few post-Stabler seasons were OK, but this season was garbage. There were always contrivances but it's just not even close to being an intelligent legal drama anymore. It's all about being shocking and playing on tropes and blatant ratings-grabs. What even happened in the season finale? I forgot it was on.

  12. The Reid storyline was also stupid because GL had just done the same exact storyline with Annie Dutton/Teri DeMarco. And that didn't exactly end well for them either after Teri was revealed to be Annie (though the build-up to the reveal was better, IIRC, and required fewer mental gymnastics and characters being stupid as hell.) Reid was surrounded by red flags and it took a year for anybody to realize anything (plus why would he switch Lily's white baby with Denise's biracial baby? lol.)

  13. I always kind of wonder if the actors said no, if they thought it would have been a bad idea.

Oh god that clip is bad. Nowadays there'd be a drinking game of how many times Eddie says man, and we'd all be alcoholics.

I loved Jack and Carly back then, before they turned him into Officer Jesus.

I'm still puzzled as to why they thought Scott DeFreitas wasn't hunky enough. His arms looked amazing in that clip.

Whose bright idea was the Reid storyline? God awful. As much as I remember the Laiman tenure as being awful, thank god they pruined the cast because there were some real duds in the Broderick era as this clip shows.

  14. I hate the Polyanna speach. Makes me wanna beat Karen with a 2X4. Then rip her two arms and beat her bleeding face with it while i giggle. And then douce whats left with gaz and light a match. And then take pictures. And then posting them on my FB. AND THEN WAIT FOR THE COPS TO ARREST ME.

    Haha. Ditto.

  15. I have always been a bit bitter about Shizuka Arakawa's 2006 gold medal performance. She scaled her difficult jumps back and won by default as the other top ladies didn't skate clean, in contrast to 2014 where all the top ladies skated clean (and they just chose the wrong one, lol.)

But recently I have come to appreciate her 2006 skate. Her spins and spirals were breathtaking, and she chose the perfect outfit to highlight those moves. I love the music as well, and her slow step sequence which you hardly ever see anymore. And even though the performance was scaled back technically, I think she really connected with the audience in a way you rarely see for somebody who is not a home country favorite. I have been wrong for 8 years and she was a worthy winner.

  16. What in the hell is this? The stocks? Really??

He's an extremely wealthy man who will move on to another high-paying job.

When will all GLBT people stop being blamed and shamed for decisions like these?

I'm sick of it. I'm so sick of it.

Hear hear. Agreed. The way he is being made into a martyr disgusts me. I am the first to say that the LGBT community needs to learn to choose its battles, but let's be real here. He chose to donate to that cause. He is now being held accountable for that. And then he chose to resign. Isn't the right all about choices and taking personal responsibility? He did what he did and now he is dealing with the effects.

  17. The GOP is winning the Senate, that is for sure.

The next Presidency? They have a shot. At which point the ACA becomes their baby, and we probably get a lot of reforms to it that Democrats wanted anyway. They only care about spending when they don't have the White House. I would not be surprised to see more spending, even if disguised as tax credits, to fix the law.

  18. I see what you are saying, but the fact that it cannot be repealed is a victory for Obamacare. It was never intended to be endgame.

Also, I don't think Hillary can win. I want her to, and I wanted her to last time, but it's not going to happen. America is not ready for a woman president.

  19. Watching the Republican reaction to the ACA signups has been the highlight of my day. It reminds me of the way I felt when they called Ohio for Obama in 2012.

I'll never understand the political mindset that simply refuses to accept bad news. Nobody wins all the time yet the GOP can never admit when it's lost. They lost this battle. They lost it everywhere and in every way. They lost in the legislature when they tried to stop it. They lost in the courts when SCOTUS upheld it. They lost at the ballot box when the guy who promised to repeal it on day one got his ass handed to him by voters. They lost when they shut down the government to defund it. They lost when 7.1 million people signed up and every time somebody signs up they lose again.

It's not like there haven't been losses on the other side: the employer mandate, the contraception mandate, etc… so the GOP needs to take the victories it got and accept reality.

They have to realize that there is no end-game that looks favorable to them when it comes to Obamacare. I mean what happens if they win the presidency in 2016? There will be more than the 7 million people currently enrolled by then. If they repeal, all those people will be cut off from their insurance, and they acted like it was a federal crime when 4.7 million lost their policies last year. At this point, they really can't repeal it anymore. They ran out of time to do it. I wouldn't be surprised if their talking points start to change now to maybe making changes in the law. Which is where Obama has been all along, but because their stance was either repeal or nothing, they actually ensured that they would be stuck with the law.
