Done! Thankfully it was my day off today. I also added a few more things to make it feel more like a Y&R compilation clip. Enjoy!

You have such an ear for these things! I love how you placed the cues. Keep it coming!

PS. woah those scenes were so... lifeless and dull. They all felt like fillers. No wonder soaps are dying.

Hey everyone! I've been quietly browsing these boards for a while now and I finally decided to make an account, go figure haha. I'm a huge fan of the older Y&R episodes shared from the 90s and early 2000s and most importantly, I'm an even bigger fan of Y&R's classic background music. I've always felt like they used to be the gold standard where daytime drama production is concerned, and strongly their old background music instantly elevates any scene. I'm glad it's making a comeback in newer episodes too, as they disappeared for the last 6 years.

I'm also a frequent GH watcher, and based on the recent storylines I had this crazy idea to see what a GH scene would feel like with Y&R's background music (because let's face it, GH's current music is a mess). So I quickly flexed my musical muscles and I decided to quickly edit a short scene with Y&R's old music. This was already an emotionally heavy scene and I feel like the music helped drive that point even further. Because it's using older Y&R background music I thought it would be appropriate to post here. Anyways, here's the video below and let me know what you think!

So amazing! You did a great job there! Where did you get the soundtrack clean version?

Looking back it feels like Jack Smith started the decline. It wasn't severe, but didn't we lose a few actors as well as several recurring characters?

He did start the decline. He relied on stunts all the time. He was not a talented writer IMHO but at least the show still felt like Y&R.

I have some great news that I will soon be buying 3 episodes of Y&R from 1980!!!! The dates are April 14th, April 16th, and June 16th, and they surround the storyline of Nikki being in the cult. Bond Gideon, who I never personally saw play Jill Foster, played her from February-July of 1980. So there may even be a chance we get to see her as Jill; we also might get to see Derek Thurston, who I also have never personally seen act as Derek, not one single scene. So stay tuned! ^_^

    That's amazing! Thank you!

Bill Bell was a master at keeping characters in their separate stories/lives.. and then intersecting them at surprising moments (i.e. Spring 1984.. Ashley is attending Victor/Ashley's wedding as a guest... by Spring 1985.. Victor/Ashley are starting the road toward an affair... years later... Ryan Mcneil/Victoria were a Romeo/Julie story in summer 1991 while Nina was dealing with the David Kimball mess.. by summer 1992.. Nina/Victoria/Ryan triangle was in full swing).  Y and R was a show that wasn't about everyone knowing one another (especially in the early 80s).. so I don't know how a Marland/Nixon would have altered that if they had taken the helm..etc.

That was my favorite part of the show. You would never see Victor hanging out at Crimson Lights (albeit to visit his family). You would never see random people sitting in Victor's office chair etc. I miss that.

There's an episode of Diagnosis Murder where Michelle Stafford is a guest star, LOL. I was a bit surprised to see her there, TBH.

I remember that! She did not interact with VR though, right?

The Museum of Broadcasting Chicago has in the archive a screen test for Y&R featuring these performers

    Baker, David L.
    Cheyne, Hank
    Diamont, Don
    Dickson, Brenda
    Eckholdt, Steven
    Kayser, Allan J.
    Wilson, Robert

I assume this was for Brad Carlton and they were testing with Brenda Dickson as Jill.

Wow! I'd love to see this.

Isn't it bizzarre that in a short space of time Jill had to interact with two different, good-looking male characters both named Brad?

What was the last storyline that aired before cancellation? If the ending was 2005 or earlier episodes, then you were spared LML, MAB, JFP, Pratt.

Maybe it's me but I always got the impression that B&B is a bigger draw in most of Europe than Y&R.

I'm pretty sure it was Cane's introduction. I wasn't watching anymore though.

    No more FEBBRE D'AMORE???

They aired each episode in two pieces anyway, didn't they?

Haha! Exactly. No more 'Love fever' :D

Uhm they actually aired one episode a day. Which had become quite rare for US soaps in Italy. Italian networks usually cut episodes halfway or add another portion off the next episode just because they see soaps as fillers for their line-ups. I was so sad to see the show go, but considering what it had become it was no huge loss.

I recently heard that Jamie Luner was another one in the running and I could get behind that. Then I heard recently her name was mentioned when YR recast Phyllis. I feel like she would have been the perfect choice for Phyllis! Gina Tognoni is good, but I think Jamie Luner would have just brought something special.

I agree! I guess TPTB thought she was too old to play the mother of a 29 year-old...

  11. Why would SS stay longer on the show if LK was ready to take over?

OMG LK acted like a bratty teenager when she first came on... I think with some actors you can tell they don't have an ounce of evil in them. The same happened with Jess Walton on Y&R. I mean, I don't know these women personally, of course, but they strike me as people that would not hurt a fly... Hence they were not suited to play vixens like at all.
