  1. BoldRestless, I'm so sorry to hear that! That is so frustrating... Don't Y&R/SONY have more important things to do than pull such old vids? I'll never be able to wrap my mind around this issue.

YRfan, those episodes are amazing. I wasn't too sold on the Danny trial drama. He's okay but he's no leading man material IMO. I don't understand his popularity but I guess he had what it took for that particular era.

The baby switch ordeal was phenomenal. I loved how they played every single beat. I had to chuckle at Sheila looking for a 'Natalie Minard'... given that Natalie Minardi has been a staple member of the writing team for several years.

Nina's reaction to David's shooting was not what you would expect. I really loved it.

Boy, was Jack coming across as a sloppy second to Victor. Poor guy, he just has no sexual chemistry with anyone.

I have a question, how did Sheila manage to hide her fake belly during her fake pregnancy? I mean, wasn't she living with Scott back then? And he would never see her naked when she started showing? I'm a little sketchy on the details of that story, also I have other eppys to catch up with.

  2. I think the only 2 characters I despise the most after the Governor are Darryl and this Beth girl. So the writers' decision to pair them up after the showdown took place was just abysmal to me.

What can I say about the episode. Not my favorite, not my least favorite either. Burning down a safe refuge is as stupid as not killing every single walker IMHO (well not every single one, but you get my point). It all boils down to basic writing rules, where you need to plant and reap seeds, and come full circle for some reason... And to be honest it all comes off so sappy it makes me cringe most of the time.

  3. Ha I love when people feel the need to apologize for disliking a show. I don't think I'd like a show if it was one that nobody disliked (if that makes any sense...) But at least you watch which helps the show tongue.png

I just don't want to spoil the party if other people are enjoying the show.

I never thought Frank was girlish,

You probably missed his first appearence in the last eppy, where he was holding a spatula with a limp wrist and his hand next to his shoulder.

I don't watch tv because the characters are people I'd want to have over for a dinner party.

Ok, but wanting to strangle them everytime they're on isn't okay either.

The show was given the greenlight, I suspect, largely due to the praise given Weekend (a film some hate for the same reasons.)

Weekend had a plot. Was it action-packed? Definitely not, but surely it featured likeable characters, a nice development and end.

I do laugh whenever Dom brings up Piri Piri Chicken, but I think that's partly meant to happen. It's not like anyone involved thinks this is a all-important issue, but it shows what a rut the character is in

It's definitely played for laughs to an extent, you can see it by the way the scenes are cut, but what I'm saying is that this is not a very captivating story arc to give your character in the early run of your show :D

  4. The show was dreadful.

The problem with Bryan is that the writers had a huge hard-on for him. Bryan would always *speak the truth* (like calling Emmett out on being a 'eunuch' TV host). Depicting him as the hero/anti-hero or whatever was all kinds of wrong. Justin, Michael and that other lesbian woman drooling over him was ridicoulus. He was just a sociopathic who happened to have very good looks. But the writers disagreed.

Emmett was also stupid, I mean, come on. As if he could really score all those handsome guys. Ted was probably the most relatable character to me. Oh, and Michael's boyfriend...

  5. Rosita DID look ridicoulus. What were they thinking? And who cares if she looked like that in the comics, it's not like we're talking about the Marvel Universe here... Quite the contrary... Robert Kirkman's comics leave a lot to be desired and I speak as someone who read the early run of the series.

  6. I'm sorry but I think the show is awful. The only reason I watch it is because I'm absolutely in love with Russell Tovey and I have a fondness for Murray Bartlett from GL.

I don't know how they managed to make the characters so unlikeable. Every single one of them.

And don't get me started on that Patrick fellow. He's just obnoxious and not in a love-to-hate way. There's just nothing likeable about him, he's just a self-centred brat, and I might have a fit if they repeat one more time he's had just *one* boyfriend.

The plots are just unbelievably lame, I mean the writers' spokeperson must be great at pitching things because this show literally has no direction. The main storyline is about a young loser adding another boyfriend to his resume (what was the deal with that scene where he kept saying 'I haven't got a gay voice... my voice is NORMAL!!!'. is that really acceptable in 2014 USA?), then you have two supporting stories about a guy obsessed with Portuguese chicken and another one getting tired of his girlish boyfriend.

I'm sorry, I know there are so many fans here but I just needed to vent. And if Patrick ends up with Kevin (which is definitely going to happen), I'm gonna SCREAM! lol

  7. I've watched April 16 so far.

I thought Nina and Chase handled the kid playing Phillip very well. Sweet scenes. It's painful to realize that Nina's apt set has now become Adam and Chelsea's sh*thole (with the Newman Enterprise doors) (and after being Malcolm's faboulus apartment, and Damon Porter's as well I think).

As always, Jack: zzzz. But I love and miss these mindgames.

Bell trying to do comedy with Cricket and Danny fell flat all the time.

I always forgot to ask: who is this Chase guy? And who were Nan, Skip and Carol, whom I saw in one of the previous episodes? I don't think they left a mark on the show.

  8. Of the three big recasts around that time, Jill, Ashley and Jack. I would say PB was my least favourite. Lester played Jack as a arrogant, self absorbed player but had a complete rascal type charm about him that made you like his character. He could also do soft and emotional when he needed to. PB wasn't cut out for the bad boy Jack and it shows in the eps posted and Bell shifted the character accordingly.

Yeah, it was so obvious in the episodes recently posted here. I hate how recasts change character personality (which happens 99% of the times. I know it also depends on how much you enjoyed the original portrayer but that's for another thread). In that particular case I think that they knew PB was not able to pull off TL's Jack, but at the time PB was 'hot' because of his success at AMC, he was also younger than TL and there you have it.

I would say the same of Brenda Epperson's Ashley. Watching old clips of Eileen I forget how much attitude and fire she had compared with Brenda.

Yeah, I'm not familiar with early Ashley, but I can see how the character became too soft with BE. The thing is, I think BE is so beautiful and so sweet, it's impossible not to like her! wub.png

Jess, well I think she is a far better actor then Brenda was even in her first run, but Dickson was Jill. They definitely changed the character after Jess came on. It is only Jess' acting that I prefer, but the writing of the character and Brenda's interpretation were better to me.

Yes! I could not have said it better.

Jess is very, very campy in most of what I've seen of her first few years as Jill. To me this only truly starts to change around 1989 or 1990.

Yeah. I wish she had continued her phenomenal Brenda impression. I know it's an awful thing to say. But I just hate the way she snaps at people and suddenly starts to scream in every confrontation. She just comes off as insecure IMHO.

  9. I am loving the classic episodes.

Cassandra is just something else. So beautiful and so intriguing. I'm digging her. I'd love to see the actress again, I'm sure she's aged flawlessly. And I didn't know Mallett from GL was on Y&R! LOL

It's nice to see Leanna acting like a human being, not that cartoonish *thing* I had gotten used to see in the last decade.

I've never cared about Don Diamont's body but I have to say... the man was sex on a stick!

Woah, David Kimble looks exactly like a former boyfriend of mine! LOL I remember thinking he was just so ugly in the past, but now I find him quite attractive. It's amazing what they did with this character.

1990 Y&R was all about the money, I see. Cassandra's. Katherine's. Nina's. There were three plots running at the same time about a woman's money about to be extorted from her.

I know I'm in the minority but I just dislike the Jack and Jill recasts. I know it's an unpopular-borderline-blasphemy opinion, but I just think it has affected the writing for the characters so much. I find it excruciating to see PB interacting with a woman/potential partner. Or even worse-- trying hard to play the bad boy, with all the smirking and hand-waggling. And about Jess- I do think she is a good actress and a marvelous human being, but she brought this 'shrewish' vibe to Jill which I feel eventually led to Jill being played for laughs (I can see how it all started when she tried to seduce Victor... say what you want about Dickson's campy robot delivery but that would have never happened with her).

  10. I honestly don't know why CBS/Sony/The Bells don't look at the view counts on classic clips and realise there might be a profit to be gained from somehow releasing old episodes.

They could at the very least try streaming the show from the start to see what interest there is. Certainly the EW article with the first episode attached got some good attention.

I know!!! It's a no-brainer! But me thinks SONY-BELL fear that being provided with the great past episodes will take away the small remaining interest we have in the current shows.

  11. A news break during the 6th segment cuts out at least 15 minutes towards the end of this episode.......This is also my last 1989 episode for right now in my collection, so soon I will upload all of 1990 that I...... have Old and new!

I must say-- I caught up with your wonderful videos watching one each night before I went to bed for the last week... I could get dangerously used to this! :D

I am so sorry they deleted SoapOperaSpectacular's account! I have no words. Why do they even care?!

  12. The Brittany actress returned several years late as Agnes, a society matron who worked with Sharon and Katherine on a benefit. Pity she wasn't used more.

Cool! I remember this, it was the infamous GALA. (I think it was in 2004) Back then, Brittany Hodges was still on the show so they probably did not want to confuse viewers. Or maybe they just didn't care.

Judging from YRfan's vids, I like Brittany! I think she fits just right in Y&R's glamourus type of woman.

I can't figure out what's going on with Leanne and Douglas. Is she manipulating him? Is she really attracted to him?

Yeah me either! What's the deal with them? Douglas looks like a delusional scumbag around her LOL And she was giving him the worst looks possible in the dinner episode with Nikki. Leanna cracks me up!

  13. I think you can upload more than one at a time. Sorry I'm no expert blush.png

I love the way you're uploading them now. I learned my lesson, I'm going to save them! Wonder why some videos get removed while others don't.
