DAYS #2: Plots & Revelations
NOTE: Hopefully this entry is a little easier to take in for some of you. I know a few of you have been hoping to see more of my dialogue. Expect quite a paring down of the cast. I find there's a few characters that just aren't working right now, and they'll be gone soon. Some will be a surprise, but the episodes will soon be quite a bit more focused. Anyway, enough of me rambling on. Here it is! DAYS OF OUR LIVES #2 At the apartment, Sonny stands aghast at Will for agreeing with Gabi regarding her tactics with Nick. WILL: Look, I'm not saying I like the guy, or anything. All I'm saying is that maybe Gabi's onto something. Sonny clasps his hands together and closes his eyes, looking like he's trying with everything in his power to hold back what he really wants to say. SONNY: I don't....I don't even understand what you're talking about right now. WILL: Sonny, don't you get it. Look, Nick's back. We don't know what he wants, what he's hiding, anything. All I'm saying is that maybe if we give him some time while we're figuring out what he's up to-- SONNY: And then what? In the meantime, we hand Ari over to him? Will, look what he did to you before. To Gabi. You can't seriously think this guy is actually about to turn on his heels and do a 360 now, do you? Gabi's had enough, and interjects suddenly. GABI: What if he has? WILL/SONNY: Seriously?? --- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_KZsiMhziRI (yeah, that's right. I'm kickin' it old school) --- Nicole paces Daniel's apartment, clutching the envelope containing the evidence of Eric's innocence to her chest. She ponders what Hope has told her previously, that any evidence collected from Dr. Chyka's hideout would likely hurt Eric's case, not help it. She flashes back to Eric telling Nicole that he's giving up the priesthood to be with her. She sighs heavily. NICOLE: This is the right thing to do. Now, where to hide this. Nicole stares at the fireplace and contemplates throwing the evidence into it. NICOLE: I could just burn it...then it'd be gone forever...I can't do that. Nicole turns away and continues pacing. She holds the package away from herself and starts shaking it before her. NICOLE: UGGGH! What am I gonna do with you?? I wish I could just...throw you in a drawer and forget you're even there. Nicole thinks for another minute before coming to a conclusion. NICOLE: The only place that I know only my eyes will see you is in my office. Nicole grabs her purse and heads off to the TV station. --- Kate walks through the park outside Horton Town Square and runs into a shady-looking man, holding a large brown envelope. They both look around to ensure they are alone before speaking. KATE: So? What do you have? MAN: See for yourself. The man holds out the envelope, which Kate takes from him. Opening it up, she finds an article and a familiar-looking mugshot staring back at her. KATE: Well, well, well, Jordan Ridgeway. Or should I say Patty Hearst? Kate dons a wry smile, amused by her own wit. --- Back at Will, Sonny & Gabi's apartment, Gabi has worked up the nerve to stand up to Sonny and Will's objections about Nick. GABI: Look, I think we should just give him a chance. I mean, he knows that Sami and Kate tried to kill him but he's not-- SONNY: Woah, woah, wait a minute. He knows? And where exactly is your name in all this? WILL: Seriously, Gabi, you hit him over the head with a rock, I wouldn't exactly say you didn't do anything-- GABI: Nick says I'm innocent. Will and Sonny stand aghast. Sonny suddenly realizing the depth of Gabi's insecurity and desperation. He responds with more than a hint of disgust. SONNY: Oh, God, you're still in love with the guy, aren't you??...Admit it, Gabi. ---

DAYS #1 + intro
Thanks for the feedback, guys. I wasn't sure what style to use, so I figured I'd start off this way. I'm going to go for a more dialogue/interactive style with ep2 because I can hear some of the lines in my head already, and I think you'll get a kick out of it. Thanks for checking it out, too!

DAYS #1 + intro
So yes, I'm gonna try to do this. I'm going to start from the events after Valentine's Day's episode, and try to build the story off from there. Hopefully I don't get too confused as I go, so bear with me! Any feedback would be marvelous! I recognize this isn't overly enthralling (or that different from what's actually going on right now, but indulge me, I'm kind of zooming through some of the current stories to break off from what's happening onscreen). Hope you enjoy! *** *** *** Celebrating JJ's verdict, the Hortons gather at the family home. Jennifer receives a call from Liam, wondering if she's available tonight for an impromptu date. Jennifer informs him of JJ's verdict, and invites him to join the party. Upon Liam's arrival, JJ makes another effort to dissuade Liam from pursuing Jennifer. Jennifer overhears JJ and pulls him aside, telling him that her personal life is not his to interfere in, and that he should focus on celebrating his victory. JJ insists that there is something Jennifer needs to know before she pursues anything with Daniel, but Jennifer doesn't want to hear it, and returns to Liam's side. Abigail asks JJ what he thinks he's doing. JJ is tight-lipped, and insists that it's nothing. Abigail isn't so sure, though she's preoccupied with her own troubles with EJ. After the party ends, Liam and Jennifer kiss goodnight. JJ catches the kiss from the living room entrance and is troubled by it. Jennifer turns after closing the door and tells JJ immediately that she doesn't want to hear it. JJ insists he wasn't going to say anything against Liam, but that he wants to tell Jennifer something about Daniel. Jennifer cuts him off, saying that she isn't going to talk to JJ about her personal life, and really doesn't want to talk about Daniel. Instead, she wants to congratulate JJ on not going to prison, and that she's proud of him for finally being the sweet, honest son she used to know. She hugs him goodnight and goes to bed. --- Gabi runs into Nick again at the town square. They have a long chat, and Gabi is left believing that Nick is well and truly in the process of changing. Near the end of the chat, Nick asks to hold baby Ari. Gabi agrees, and Nick holds the baby, calling her "his little baby girl". It is at this moment that Sonny and Will arrive at town square hand in hand to share the news with Gabi of their engagement, and they stand in horror as they see Ari in Nick's arms. Gabi attempts to allay Sonny and Will's fears, but Will will have none of it, demanding that Nick hand him his daughter. Nick asks Will to calm down and hands him the baby, while Gabi attempts to ease the tension by insisting that everything was under control and that Nick just wanted to hold the baby for a moment. Sonny is having none of it, and instructs Nick to back off. Nick laughs at Sonny's demands, asking if he'd forgotten that Gabi also has a say as Ari's mother. Nick attempts to lay a guilt trip on Will and Sonny, wondering why Gabi's point of view is never considered in anything, before backing away and leaving to "take care of some business". Will and Sonny rip into Gabi upon their arrival at their apartment, wondering what she's thinking. Gabi insists that she believes Nick is making a positive change, and thinks that the best thing they can do is to be nice to Nick so that he doesn't press charges. Sonny, unaware that Nick called Sami, Gabi, and Kate out on their attempts to dump him in the river, demands clarification. Once Gabi fills him and Will in on the situation, Will tells Sonny that he actually sees Gabi's point of view. Sonny is stupefied by Will's admission, and insists that Nick cannot use Ari as a tool of blackmail. --- Marlena is working late at the hospital, and is visited by Abe in her office. After warm greetings, Marlena invites Abe to have a seat. Abe insists he can't stay too long as he needs to get back to JJ's party at the Hortons', but has news from John. Marlena is slightly dubious, but indulges Abe. Abe informs Marlena that John has been asked by the ISA to resume working for them, and he, Shane, and Bo are working on a major case together. Marlena wishes to know more, but Abe cannot say. Abe does tell Marlena, however, that the case could change everyone's lives forever. He presents Marlena with a letter from John that he'd been asked to give her in person. Abe then leaves Marlena's office and heads for the Hortons. Marlena ponders the letter momentarily before opening it. John expresses in his letter his continued love for Marlena, and his regrets at how he handled their differences over Kristen. Though he is still hurt by Marlena's lack of faith in him, he recognizes that it was all part of Kristen's plans, and that in due time, he hopes they can mend their relationship. The letter brings a smile to Marlena's face. --- Theresa steps inside Daniel's apartment and attempts to talk to Daniel about what happened the night she overdosed. Daniel is completely uninterested in having this conversation, but Theresa is insistent. Knowing that if JJ is allowed to go home that he will tell Jennifer what really happened the night of her overdose, she throws herself at Daniel in a last-ditch effort, but is rebuffed. Daniel then throws Theresa out of his apartment. Theresa, seeing all her leverage and her plans falling apart around her ears, heads to Club TBD for a drink (or six). Theresa's fed up of perpetuating her charade, and her frustration over not being able to bed Daniel (or anyone else) is starting to get to her. She sits down, deep in thought, at the bar, and demands a drink from T. T tries to make conversation with her, thinking Theresa's pretty cute, but is immediately turned down. As T walks away, Theresa looks further down the bar and sees a contemplative Brady sitting at the opposite end of the bar. Theresa makes her way over to him, and strikes up a conversation with him. Brady is his typical guarded self, replacing honest emotions with pointed snarky remarks. Theresa is unfazed, and dishes it right back. Brady figures out that Daniel has rejected Theresa, and laughs at her naivete in thinking Daniel would go for her. Theresa responds by ordering another drink. After a few more drinks, Theresa realizes she needs to go home, and Brady offers to walk her home. Upon arriving at Theresa's apartment, she stumbles upon getting out of the elevator, and when Brady reaches to catch her, they kiss sloppily, and then desire takes over. Theresa opens the door to her apartment, and Brady follows her in. ---

EastEnders: Discussion Thread
Just tuned back in, first time in awhile. Loved Michael/Alice/Janine's showdown, though it's a shame we're losing Michael (I'm probably just saying that because that's a fine-looking man ). Reaaaally enjoyed those episodes. As for the new team, do we know when their episodes will first air?

First of about 5 (so far) bits from Late 97/Late in Malone's run. I found myself really intrigued by a lot of this, though I know Malone's AW was rather unpopular, mostly for aping his OLTL, though because this focuses on Rachel/Carl and Alex/Felicia, I'm not sure I see that. Anyone able to clarify for this here clueless fool? EDIT: As soon as I heard Cindy ask the African artpiece "which one of you is going to make Grant love me?", that story instantly became dumb as hell.

What a mess of a story it must've been then. I did enjoy the family dynamic, it's a shame it didn't work in the long term. Was it just a change in writers that got them the boot or were they just an unpopular family with viewers? Rachel & Mac's fights are beautiful scenes in any era. If you ever want to convince someone why you'd want to watch a soap opera, just show those two in an argument. Two masters at work.

That was a damned good episode. I hate to ask if it's already been asked and answered, but didn't Mary's backstory get really convoluted after this point? And why did the McKinnon's get so quickly eschewed from the canvas after this, pretty much disappearing after this year (save Jake and Kathleen's brief return a few years later)?

The Doctors Discussion Thread
It's so funny to me how one show's success by doing something different has meant that every show must ape that show's style. It's been this way for years now, and it's a big part of what's killing soaps. GH is a hit, let's make all shows have OTT high-octane adventures and location shoots with bombs and guns! Y&R is a hit, let's make all our shows have incredibly dim lighting and sexy young people! DAYS is a hit, let's all make our storylines so unbelievable they border on self-parody! I get that this happens in primetime as well and all, but the lengths to which daytime has gone to make every show "like the #1 show that did things differently" has really ruined it for everyone. And The Doctors is one of the really truly sad victims of this. What a waste. NBC didn't have Rita Lakin, Agnes Nixon, and Bill Bell write their soaps because they wanted three shows exactly the same, nor were they the runaway successes they were for that reason. They worked because they were different, but complimented each other beautifully. If only execs now (or in the 80s, 90s, and 00s) would see things that way.

Other than on here, has anyone made any real effort to demand these episodes come out? I'm sure if there's a non-batshit crazy effort made to organize people to encourage these companies to get at least some of these classic shows out there, maybe then they'll recognize the potential. Maybe not. But then we at least can't say we haven't put in our best effort.

Ratings from the 70's
This and the earlier post from Dec 71 really help explain a lot of the major sweeping changes CBS made around this time that led to so many cancellations (SS, LMST, WTHI, etc.), it's striking how panicked CBS got by ABC and NBC's success, and I'm not sure that many of their decisions ended up being for the better in the long-run.

Strange Paradise
Hahha, it's true. Some shots were so ill-lit the actors looked like disembodied heads floating around the screen. Utterly bizarre.

Strange Paradise
I find it interesting that Harding Lemay wrote this. I also noted when I posted this on Facebook, that they had the whole dark, moody lighting thing down a good three years before Y&R (although I'm pretty sure it was to hide the cheap sets more than anything).

It's a party up in hurr. Also, I also love Melba Moore's voice, and the 80s Kashif-style dance tracks, but Melba's voice really does NOT suit that kind of dance-pop music very well.

I loved that, also the 1979 episode he posted. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AGF7kCQDO9Q Is this Rita's final episode or was there much more afterwards? I have to say, for not knowing much about the stories at this time, I'm really loving every minute of it. Just proves that strong writing and stronger actors really make all the difference.

S01 - Episode One: "Welcome to Hell"
Ohhh this is gonna be good. I'm loving having Kendall and Mateo out of the picture. I never got the appeal of Mateo and Kendall just doesn't interest me in the slightest, so this is a good pair of exits. THRILLED about Viki, Clint and Tina, and ESPECIALLY Lindsay. I always loved Lindsay so this oughta be great. Keep it coming, I'm loving it already!

Ratings from the 70's
I find it REALLY odd to see that ATWT was doing better than all NBC soaps in 18-34 women. RH was HUGE with young women! I never realized that. Really, the whole of ABC. Shocked that Price Is Right was doing so lousy around this time.

Episode 3: Cocktails for Two...Hundred
EPISODE 3 It's buzzing at The Royal. The grand opening is upon us, and champagne is in every glass. Kian, Jason and Peter socialize with the local foodies and press, basking in the glory of their creation. Ryan passes by them, hors d'oevres artfully displayed on the tray in his hands. Jason pulls Ryan over momentarily. JASON: Can you do me a favour and ask the kitchen to wait ten minutes before serving the mains? I'm gonna have Peter and Kian give speeches, then at my cue, get the staff ready and we'll parade everything out all at once, alright? RYAN: Got it, boss. Ryan is about to hastily scurry away, Jason stops him before he does so, and looks at him with a wry smile. JASON: And don't call me boss. Got it? RYAN: Yes, b..Jason. Jason lets Ryan go, and wrinkles his nose, shaking his head. Jason then goes back to mingling with the crowd, drinking far faster than anyone else in the room. He still manages to come off charming, if a little sloppy. Kian and Peter shmooze with the press, Kian held close to Peter's side, but Kian's eyes are clearly following Jason instead. Peter's so caught up in having a sexy young guy on his side, he barely notices as he chats endlessly with the socialites around him. Kian tunes it out and daydreams of he and Jason in bed together. Jason's kiss on his neck and heading south before Peter calling his name snaps him out of it. PETER: Kian! KIAN: Oh...hey. PETER: You look like you're a thousand miles away, babe. KIAN; Sorry, I just...I couldn't believe that all of this was for me. I had to soak it all in for a sec. PETER: Well, get used to it, babe, cos this is just the start of it for you. Kian smiles a wide smile and gives Peter a quick peck on the lips, more in appreciation than out of love. Regardless, the group talking with them still beam at them, mistaking their display as a sign of great romance. As this happens, Jason gets up on the small stage in one corner of the room, clinking his glass with his fork to draw attention to himself. JASON: Excuse me, everybody. Can I have everyone's attention for just a second, please. The room grows mostly silent and turns to face Jason, a few members in the crowd still chatter. JASON: Hey! Jason points to the source the noise, a twinkle in his eye as he does so. The crowd laughs. JASON: I wanted to thank you all for coming here, and I have something extremely important that I want to say about someone who is very important to everyone here, but especially to me. Kian looks to Jason with eyes darting. Kian shakes his head at Jason hoping to avert a disaster, while Jason looks relaxed and ignores Kian's worries. Down on Queen West, Darren chats with his friend, artist Calvin J at his art show. Out of the corner of his eye, Darren spots Alexis come into the gallery. Alexis' face drops and she turns sharply to the bar, avoiding contact with Darren as much as possible. Undeterred, Darren excuses himself and heads over to Alexis. As Alexis picks up a glass of wine at the bar, Darren startles her with his greeting. DARREN: HEY baby, what's up? ALEXIS: You want me to spill this all over the place? DARREN: Sorry, baby, if you spilled, i'ma buy you another. ALEXIS (unimpressed): How gracious of you. DARREN: Come to think of it, I might just buy you one anyway. ALEXIS: *sigh* This may come as a huge shock to you, but you're actually nowhere near as suave as you think you are. Darren grabs at his chest. DARREN: MY HEART! Alexis rolls her eyes, takes a sip of wine as she walks away. DARREN: Wait wait wait, wait a minute, girl. Come here, I got someone I want you to meet. ALEXIS: If it's your mother, I don't think we're at that stage of the relationship yet. DARREN: Yet. Cha-ching! Progress. Alexis follows him reluctantly, shaking her head at his theatrics as he takes her over to meet Calvin. Back at the restaurant, a beautiful black woman in her early 40s enters the room in a dazzling red gown. Her hair done up in a tight bun, she looks every bit as beautiful as a woman in her 20s, but twice as graceful. She stands at the back of the room as Jason makes his speech. JASON: I'm glad you're all here tonight for our grand opening. It really means a lot to me and Kian, and Peter of course, that you're here to help us celebrate the launch of this amazing new restaurant. Kian winces at Jason's remark. He knows the comment was unintentional, and realizes he's overthinking things, but worries that there's a possibility some buried resentment at Jason's status as Kian's hidden lover will make its way into Jason's speech. JASON: The Royal will be one of a kind in this community, a restaurant of fine food for everybody. And we have two very important people to thank for this...Kian and Peter. The crowd applauds as Jason motions them to step up. Kian is unsure of what's going on, still deep in thought, while Peter, eager to grab the spotlight, races up to capture the glory of the moment. PETER: Thank you, everybody. Thanks for coming out, and even greater thanks to my talented, and loving partner, in life and in business...Mr. Kian McClary. The applause continues as Kian finally steps up on the stage. PETER: Kian is probably the finest discovery I've ever made. Not only is he one of the best chefs in the country, but he also has quite possibly the best taste in the world. Not only for his food, but for choosing an old lug like me. Peter jabs Kian in the side, as the audience laughs. Kian laughs along with them but a slight discomfort is still visible in his face. As Peter continues to go on about how great he is, Ryan stands in the doorway of the kitchen, ready to lead the night's parade of great food with the wait staff. He notices the beautiful black woman in the doorway and can't take his eyes off her. She gives a seductive smile and turns back to Peter. Ryan smiles back clumsily, then looks back at the stage as well, waiting for Jason's cue. PETER: ...and that is going to be the key to our success. JASON: Now without further ado, let's all raise our glasses to The Royal. As the call goes out to raise their glasses, Ryan's handed a glass of champagne by another member of the wait staff, Jason motions to Ryan to hand it over to the woman he was looking at before. Ryan quickly scurries over to her and hands her a glass. RYAN: Here you are, Madam. MARY: Call me Mary. And thank you, handsome. RYAN: You're welcome. Ryan shuffles back to his corner, as the room prepares to toast. JASON: To The Royal ALL: To The Royal! Alexis toasts with Darren. She's had a few drinks by now, but still seems put off. DARREN: You look like you could kill someone, and I don't think I've crossed that line yet. ALEXIS: You're teetering on the edge, but no, you haven't. DARREN: Then I guess I better watch my step. ALEXIS: Trust me, you're nowhere near as bad as some people tonight. DARREN: Oh? ALEXIS: I wasn't supposed to be here alone tonight but-- DARREN: But you got stood up and now you wanna get your mind off it. I get it. I know the feeling. ALEXIS: Why does that not surprise me? DARREN: Now YOU'RE teetering on the edge. Alexis laughs and orders another drink. Darren finishes his and sits a little closer. DARREN: You really better slow down, you know. ALEXIS: I'm a big girl, and I don't need some he-man looking out for me. DARREN: Nah, it's not that. I just know a lot of girls who think they can handle their booze, then they end up trippin' over their heels and throwing up on some dude's Cadillac. ALEXIS: I feel like there's a story there. DARREN: You have no idea. ALEXIS (laughing): Well come on, tell me! DARREN: Only if you promise to let me walk you home. ALEXIS: Hmmmm.....I think considering we're both going to the same place. DARREN: Mmmhmm??? ALEXIS: I think I could handle that. DARREN: Excellent. ALEXIS: Now don't get too excited. I don't want you getting the wrong idea. DARREN: Promise. I'm a gentleman. I treat you like a lady. ALEXIS: Good. You know you're a lot less annoying after a few drinks. DARREN: Well thanks a lot, lady. What you tryin' to say? Darren gets in closer and tickles Alexis a bit. Alexis, whose defenses are now fully and clearly down, is actually enjoying the attention, which passive, distracted boyfriend Ryan never gives her. ALEXIS: AH! Stop it. (laughs). Come on. TELL ME! Tell me the story. Alexis looks up at Darren, who leans in to kiss her. Alexis at first recoils, but it's only momentary. She leans back in to reciprocate.

Episode 2: The Gossip in Unit 1
Enh! I remember how nosy and easily flustered Lucy was on GH and PC later in the 90s, and honestly, I can totally see it playing out with her there. The endless rambling is totally something I could see Lynn playing up. I could totally see Andrea Evans doing it though. I'm still playing around with the casting so this could change, but we'll see how things work out for the time being.
