DAYS: July 2025 Discussion Thread
Stefano was never a "dad" to them. They used to even be called his wards. Now, of course, Kristen seems to think of him as "father". But, Kristen, the social worker with a heart of gold has evolved so much over the years. In a way a different character. Another thing that Reilly was doing with "Queen of the Night" began with the adultery when Marlena went to try to keep John from leaving Salem. Reilly thought Marlena was too perfect & he thought she would be a lot more interesting if he dirtied her up a bit. Turned out to be a lot more than just a bit. LOL!! But, she probably was MUCH more interesting.

PROOF is a drama with a small cast that deals with family, genius & mental illness. A young woman, Katherine, is a mathematical genius & she acts as the caretaker to her father who is also a mathematical genius but is a very famous one because of unprovable proofs that he proved while he was a Professor of these advanced mathematics. At this point he's having a difficult time. There's a young adult male who is Katherine's beau & has been the assistant to the Professor. Both Katherine & the young man had been students of her father's. There are composition books that originally had attempted proofs in them but at some point had devolved to just jibberish on each page. In going through them the young man finds a perfect proof, complete & new & one that was thought to be impossible to solve. He, of course, assumes the Professor found mental clarity enough one day to do this, but Katherine says that she proved it. Of course, she faces serious doubt & has no way to prove her claim. This play ran on Broadway from Oct. 2000 to Jan. 2003 except for a part of June 2002 when a whole new cast rehearsed & then reopened the first week in July. In the new cast Anne Heche played Katherine, Neil Patrick Harris played the young man & Len Cariou played the Professor. We saw it one day the first week & another day the 4th week. Our seats for this second time were first row, far stage left. At one point in the play Katherine sits on the edge of the porch & at that point we could have reached out & touched her. If anything she was more mesmerizing, alive, electric live than on Another World, which is probably the difference between live & televised. That same summer we saw Alan Rickman in a revival of Noel Coward's PRIVATE LIVES & after our party went together to Joe Allan's for a late supper & to discuss the play, etc. Immediately after we were seated, Anne's party was seated right next to us. I spent the rest of that night pretending to pay attention to my table while I was really eavesdropping on Anne. At one point I looked over at my partner & winked at her & realized she was doing the same! I've been meaning to type this up & post it for ages but I was afraid it would be too long. Hope it wasn't.

DAYS: July 2025 Discussion Thread
Another lifetime ago a DAYS friend who was as much a fan of comics as he was of soaps showed me this book which listed various stories in different comics but it wasn't just the US, it was international & in a European category he showed me "The Paris Underground" & it was a lot like what we saw. I just laughed. I'm sure many people take inspiration from something they read or see. Gloria Monty stole from B movies. A friend who wrote the Book BOSS LADY, about a young woman from rural Mississippi who moves to NYC & goes into advertising, said, It's not whether to steal or not, it's what to. IOW, only steal the good stuff. One thing I'm curious about. We used to call Big Rachel The Woman in White, why don't we still?

Right this minute GH is #1 on Hulu's Top 15! Willow & Nina & not knowing what is gonna happen next week is driving this soap right to the very top!!!

GH: July 2025 Discussion Thread
GH is not in danger of being canceled or being whatever'd. But, they wouldn't fire him. They would convince him .... that he wants to retire & .... concentrate on & prioritize SOM. And, he does want that but ... I think its level of monetization is a sticking point. So, we all need to talk it up & repost about it to get its numbers up so Mo will agree & Frank can call Vanessa ... and they can write a nice .... final bow or something before Sonny & Brenda ride off into the non-extraditable sunset. Yesterday GH was #4 on Hulu's Top 15, #3 earlier in the week. They do best early in the week & worst on the weekend. OH, yeah, we all need to watch SOM every Sunday, too!!! This supporting the RETIRE MO effort is gonna be hard work. Are we up to the task?

I happen to have a copy of this episode if anyone wants to watch it or download it to borrow or whatever. I'm avoiding posting links out in the open but I would be glad to give someone a link in PM. I would just expect them to also avoid posting my link. IOW, don't post, instead share only in private. EDIT TO ADD: I uploaded a copy to the Internet Archive. https://archive.org/details/dool-12-16-94 https://archive.org/details/dool-12-19-94

ALL: Speculation on the Future of Successful Daytime Soap Operas
Yes, Beyond Salem gave them experiences with DAYS people to consider & it also gave them numbers of people who subbed for the 3 episodes. Invaluable intel. And, what amounted to a test run in a potential business relationship. Each side was testing the water with the other. It's really neat that it worked out & how. Especially since morale was challenged because of Alarr but then it got this boost because Peacock wanted them & they wanted Peacock.

ALL: Speculation on the Future of Successful Daytime Soap Operas
In keeping with ABCNBC###'s line of earlier this morning, Gregory, we are pointing at you. Britt, what the hell are you doing? You are dead. Sam, no, you cannot get your job back, why, again you are dead. These soaps are not called GHOST TOWN. These people who have been given fatal diseases have got to stop it with this coming back [!@#$%^&*]. Do you not know what fatal means? Do not come at me with "soap dead" NO SUCH THING. Dead is dead. Very dead, is also dead. Ask John Jagger Cates about being dead, he knows. Or Cyrus, he is dead also, even though the WSB cleaned up & hid his body. Perhaps hid is not the right word, but really who cares?!!!

GH: July 2025 Discussion Thread
Me, I loved the fight between them. It was great high stakes family drama. Just finished watching GH on Thursday & I cannot believe that Curtis just FINALLY told Willow about HOT, ANGRY SEX, on a random Thursday, cliffhanger-style, just dropped that intel at the very last minute of the show!!!

No, you make an excellent point but I would've definitely mentioned a little thing called "When Vivian Buried Carly Alive!" & also perhaps Sunset Beach's summer of the turkey baster. However, I don't find those things to actually be worthy of the label parody.

As a non-BOLD watcher I do not find that to be true. I must ask. Is this perhaps a BOLD thing?

GH: July 2025 Discussion Thread
This may seem random but .... I was really noticing the new ambitious ADA who is next in line for Little Sonny & she is hands down the most attractive Brenda Doppelganger we have ever had. Possibly she is even more beautiful than VM. Okay, no, sorry, went too far, got carried away. The other thing, is Anna, the other day, explaining Joss as a WSB recruit to Dante. In a way she addressed all the various issues that have been brought up in the GH fandom. Wouldn't it be great if people knocked it the hell off with all the dang fill-in-the-blank suggestions for better recruits. Emma was bad enough since spying is not passed down genetically & skipping a generation to boot. But, Trina, GMAB, our teeny tiny little pink princess an op?!!! Nooooo.

I can certainly see what it is that you are getting at. JC to me WAS Alice. To me no recast ever met the mark. In theory of course I believe a recast could have done the job but ultimately I didn't feel that they were successful.

Every single thing about David Canary at AW #1 is a blur and #2 IMO was totally ineffective & #3 bored me to tears, so sorry to say that. I adored him on AMC.

I have to admit that my dislike of Sonia Satra at least as Harley Lite, I do not pay good attention to anyone interacting with Lucy. Obviously that doesn't extend to her being a rape victim, then, I care. But, Roger & Holly is a problem. There always have been, or now I should say were, fans that wanted them to be an ongoing romantic pairing, which wouldn't have been possible. They share awful domestic history but they also share Christina/Chrissy/Blake & they have a push/pull dynamic. They are attracted to each other but they repel each other & the temptation might always be there between them to hurt each other intentionally. Fletcher, I think it is fair to consider him a default position, all the time, not just with Holly. Holly with Ed makes more sense to me but then most of the time I want to kick Ed in the shins, just once, to pay him back for Lillian. He really skated. Lillian was the one who paid. What am I saying? Mo was the one who paid the most. And, also it was a huge waste & one that didn't have to happen. Makes sense to me. As soon as I saw who was sitting to his left, I perked right up. Van does not suffer fools, at all.

Some episodes on the Internet archive: Wayback Machine. No idea if they are extant. 1991-1992, Nick, Alex ... Just watched one where Alex had presents wrapped for Christmas, which is appropriate as this is a December show, but they all seem to relate to LuJack. Nick explodes & shouts & then leaves in a huff. "I am NOT your son. You are NOT my mother. Lady, I'm sorry, but you are NOBODY to me!" https://archive.org/details/guidinglight-1992/GL-16Dec1991.mpg

@MLHMore ... I don't understand what you meant about Lucy's rape being why they had to part Roger & Holly. They had a complicated relationship that also was on, at times, and off at other times. But, bottom line, Roger raped Holly. She didn't want to be a mother who meddled. I completely get that! Then, about the work schedule, she was about to have a vacation which automatically affords some relief if someone is feeling overworked, or burned out, etc. But the worst is that obviously Jill did not make Bev feel heard & that is really being a poor manager of people. And, I have to remind myself that applied to both the work issue & the story issue.
