Thank you for the information. It is just amazing to see Beverlee so young.

NBC Daytime
@danfling So, oddball soaps by Dan & Donna Out of Philadelphia: NBC's Miss Susan & First Love. On the DuMont network: Faraway Hill 1946, A Woman to Remember 1949 & The O'Neills 1949-1950. Out of Toronto: Moment of Truth NBC 1965 & High Hopes Syndicated 1978. Out of Ottawa: Strange Paradise Syndicated 1969. Out of Atlanta & on Ted Turner's cable station: The Catlins TBS 1983. Out of Virginia Beach & a Christian soap: Another Life CBN 1981. [Also in the early 80s Ted Turner wanted to expand by 4 more cable networks: Soaps, History & I don't remember the other two. Soaps did not make. History did.]

So, I have passed this onto Eddie who is very interested in following up so his next question is, what issue of which old mag were you reading initially?

Days of Our Lives: September 2023 Discussion Thread
Yes, the definitely tried to force people to like Katherine Bell. That's an example of GH doing this, like now with Finn, earlier on. Stefan compared to Patch, well he was elegant. He was a prince but an egalitarian. He's right about that Mulcahey dialogue. He had really good writing & no one on DAYS has really good writing, unfortunately. Except about Katherine & then his writing was just weird.

Seems weird to me. As if the nice making up day did not happen. I wondered if we got a scene out of order. I was behind & am now caught up & I just want to throttle Violet.

I completely agree with you. The failure I was mainly talking about was just the pairing of SN & MBE on a different soap. From the moment they had Stefan meet Katherine Bell by shooting her I felt the writing was absurd for the couple. Katherine Bell worked as a foil to Lucy & as a friend to Nik, so that was a bit of success. But, she didn't work with Stefan or with most other characters so that was a lot of failure.

Texas! Discussion Thread
Yes, that's it. I think it is quite good. I think I've read every interview he ever gave. Plus, a friend talked to him near the end of his life. He spent an afternoon & on into evening & they walked from Pete's apartment to a restaurant & had supper. Pete signed a book for him & they got their picture taken together & they just talked & talked. The big takeaway was that Pete was bitter about one thing & that is that P&G screwed him over so badly about the proposed Michael Randolph gay storyline & how P&G did it. What they did is typical corporate dirty tricks. He was dragging his feet on signing a new contract. He wanted to do this story. They greenlit it. The show cast - with great care & attention. The actor had been fully informed about the story, etc. & all was in readiness. We know what the first scene would have been & then what the second scene would have been & so forth. So, Pete signed that contract. And, as soon as he did, they withdrew the greenlight for the story. Imagine if AW had done a gay storyline in the late 70s! Imagine that corporations treat creative types like that. Hey, I know some TEXAS! true trivia! Patrick Mulcahey told me that the whole writing team for TEXAS was hired & assembled & on contract & they had no writing for them yet. So, they put them to work writing on AW! But, somehow they slipped through the cracks & they don't have writing credits for the work & they can't get anyone to fix it so it's a bit of frustration. Although he went on at some length about how wrong both his IMDb page & wikipedia page are!! He said he tried to work with them to fix them but it was impossible. I recently corrected one item on Beverlee's IMDb page & I can imagine how hard various entries would be. One pass they said it didn't make sense to them. Next pass I said much more & they said I exceeded the number of words. Third pass I got through! In between I talked to one of them in email & I frankly think that is what made the difference!

Scott had one & I posted it in the inert LIAMST discussion thread. Her real life husband is in it also. Not for the first time I wish that WOST had been archived!!! It is strictly from an interview some WOSTer did at an awards ceremony with Pete Lemay that we learned that it was Fred Silverman who had that cockamamie idea! You know to take AW to a 90 minute show. 2006 I believe, audio only, up on YT. Petition status: 469 signatures & 16 promoters https://chng.it/9s22wzb7rF

The Doctors Discussion Thread
One of the programmers who worked for him, without giving his or her name, said that they did the 90 minute show because they couldn't think of anything better to try. Meaning they were just itching to change it somehow & how wasn't important only that they did so was. I am not now watching The Doctors. I watched it live first run through but in discussion with some fans I was surprised that RetroTV is removing the copyright credit lines from some episodes. Does anyone know why they're doing that?

Of course actually the first thing she did was throw, what, 3 people out of the K Mansion? Maggie, Bonnie & Justin. God, I love Louise! Abt Harris & Ava, I never would have hired SB & I never would have brought TB back. But, since Alarr did I am quietly tolerating them because they are good acting beats for TB so far. I am most concerned about them switching EOB over to Teresa when OG Teresa has been more than fine. Speaking of that utter failure Stephen Nichols & Mary Beth Evans at GH, I was at the eye doctor's today & killing time & reading in the GH60 mag, I read Nichols acct. First, he was hired "funny". He went with MBE to a GH fan event & happened to meet Wendy Riche, who then wanted to talk to him about this Stefan Cassadine character & so on & so on. He says lovely things about Patrick Mulcahey's dialogue & lovely things about working with MBE, NLG, Tony, Jackie, Constance Towers & Tyler! You would never know he was speaking about a failure so complete that it is infamous to fans!

Days of Our Lives: September 2023 Discussion Thread
Happy Anniversary! Well, I liked them being in the Friend Zone personally but I will try to be open to see. I can only think of one time when people who were a successful couple on one soap were successful on another & that is George Reinholt & Jacquie Courtney, Steve & Alice on AW and then I think Tony & Pat on OLTL. If that is not their Llanview names someone will correct it, I'm sure. So DAYS went to Iceland & everything took place in a motel room & the hall outside the room. Are we now going to go to London & be in another motel room with a hall? Gosh, what an economical way they've come up with to do remotes! Argh. Chanel was married to Johnny. Later, long after they split up, partly because Johnny had the devil in him, Chanel chose between Johnny & his twin, Allie, choosing her, and they were together for 6 months & then broke up when Allie slept with UGH Alex because she thought Chanel was sleeping with Johnny. So, yes, to a mess!

Are any of you fans of Babylon 5? The episode last week that juxtaposed Cyrus preaching with the Feds arresting Sonny is so much like a B5 episode that I figure a scab writer has got to be a fan!

That's good common sense, since it was their first success in daytime. I've always thought it soap ironic that THE DOCTORS on NBC and GENERAL HOSPITAL on ABC were launched at the same time.

Yes, you're right! And, Schemering writes of them all almost getting fired for cracking up on live TV. Dufour was to rush in & report that Chris had cracked up the plane. He was one of their husbands & it was a plane crash. But, what came out was "Chris crapped." He gurgled out "on the plane". They all fell completely apart & couldn't stop laughing. I love Val Dufour & stories about him. They say he knew everyone. He talked to Greta Garbo & he said she was an AW fan.

I am always gonna want more AW & more BTS!! So, I join you in that. I love Coppola. In a Locher Rm where she & Tucci were 2 of the 5, they revealed that they are real life besties & even godparents to each other's children. Talk about envy of Christine Tucci, I mean she gets to have Stanley as a brother & Alicia Coppola on the phone with her daily!

Yes, Eddie is very busy & I feel more than a little protective of him but I also email him with unusual pix I happen to get in my forum & I made screencap images of Mac toasting for example so at least half of the time when I email him it is to offer something he will want! Besides, he is a friend from way way back. As you can imagine I am sure, Dano is good at this. I was tickled when she had Deidre Hall on that midway Dee began interviewing Linda!! Slezak was enlightening about PP not knowing what they were doing. Stephen was just like eavesdropping on two best friends. Coppola is up now & I haven't time to go yet.

I sent Eddie a quick email. He says he's never heard of that being so. He figures it's a NO. Robert Hogan, a treasure for sure. RIP. He & Denise seemed so real & so relatable!
