There does need to be a time jump because no one wants to see them still mention it's March but they're six feet apart.

HUH?! When do soaps even mention the month they're in except VERY rarely or on holidays/special days? Why get stuck on such inconsequential details? New episodes start, it's July 2020, and go!

Honestly, I think they'd want to. Propell some stories forward. Wrap up stuff that wasn't working (this goes for Y&R too... actually, Y&R *especially*)

I'm not talking about some gigantic time warp where Nikki Newman or Brooke Logan falls into a coma for 3 months and there's an hourglass sitting by their side throughout the entire tenure. But something in the dialogue to make it known that a chunk of time has progressed; use it to their advantage.

I can totally get behind that. Mention in the dialogue that it's summer (although you may not even need to, you can clearly show that) and move on. But not sure they'd care to move the stories forward, that would mean honestly looking at the material and what wasn't working.

But... in this case, a time jump makes sense. We ran out of new material in May. Why should Genoa City and L.A. still be 3+ months behind? If not right away, at least at *some* point there'll need to be a reset, unless we want to celebrate Christmas 2020 in March?

But why would we need a time jump to make it July? I think it's as simple as they pick up where they left off and it's the current month.

    WTF?

Preserving those passionate on-screen kisses will involve a bit of creative camera work, and the magic of editing. Each actor will go through the motions separately, performing inches away from the camera. “They’ll look like they’re nose to nose, in the throes of passion,” Bell says. “But they’ll be shooting scenes all by themselves.”

Simulated sex scenes, though, will require more than clever camera work and creative lighting. Bell says he plans to use a combination of stand-ins and blow-up dolls. Actors’ spouses, who test negative for the novel coronavirus, will join their partners for love scenes that involve touching.  Life-like dummies will fill in for more intimate on-camera work.

“We have some life-like blow up dolls that have been sitting around here for the past 15 years, that we’ve used for various other stories — (like) when people were presumed dead,” says Bell. “We’re dusting off the dolls and putting new wigs and make-up on them and they’ll be featured in love scenes.”

I wonder what the ratings would look like if they just DECIDED "Okay we're going to start from March 7th, 1998" and just kept it going until they can film new episodes.

I genuinely think the ratings would be "surprisingly" good. People would get into it and would be able to follow the stories. Also, I don't know if you were just using it as a random example, but March 1998 would be a great point to start lol

  5. Jesus. I always got a very bad feeling about her; she was so perky and seemingly sweet and bubbly, but all I kept thinking is I don't trust it for a moment. And it's looking worse than I would've imagined. Take her down!

  6. I was surprised about Moss and McCook. I had no idea. Hagman and Bel Geddes on DALLAS are another example (9 years difference I think).

I feel like a lot of the examples are "ridiculous" only if you know the actors' ages. The majority of the audience doesn't look up/compare those. It's all about how those actors read on camera. I would've never guessed O'Hurley and Barton were basically the same age!

I was under the mistaken impression that Ashley and Olivia went to college together but come to think of it in later years they actually only ever referred to themselves as being sorority sisters. So they belonged to the same sorority but at different colleges and never met until Olivia's first episode.

    no problem :)

I maybe wrong, but I think it was a later retcon that Ashley and Olivia were indeed in College Together, unless that's a mistake.

You weren't mistaken. Olivia and Ashley were indeed retconned in 1998 as having been in college together.
