  1. That tiny apartment looked bigger than any current Days set. I was impressed with the size and scale of all the sets, though I don't think they were always well served by the direction. That will come with time, as the directors get more comfortable with the environment. All in all, I was pleasantly surprised by what I saw, given the current state of daytime TV. Not surprisingly Tunie, Davis and Duplaix are the cast standouts, but I think some others have promise, too.
  2. Indeed. I think the show had some wonderful and charismatic Black performers through the years, in roles all the way from Peggy Nolan through to the Burrells. They were just never very well served by the show.
  3. Well, it wouldn't be the first time Ron performed character assassination on a returnee. (I'm looking at you, Diana Colville.)
  4. This poor guy! https://ew.com/former-all-my-children-actor-colin-egglesfield-announces-he-has-cancer-a-third-time-8778928
  5. Chad told Leo that the paper’s checks to Lady Whistleblower were deposited in a Rochester bank.
  6. Wow, she still looked great. I really liked her, I hope she’s doing well today. David Bailey was very boring, especially compared to Sam Groom, his predecessor as Russ. I really only have vague memories of him on AW, but I remember being excited to discover him post-AW on his own syndicated series, Police Surgeon. I did find Michael Ryan oddly compelling even as he played a frequently overbearing, chauvinistic and — thanks to his pairing with Olive — stupid man.
  7. He looks exactly like an older Eplin to me and the voice confirms it.
  8. I think both Hogan and Stroud were good actors but neither struck me as a particularly good match for Denise Alexander (though they were each a far sight better than John Considine in mustache-twirling mode). Denise had a lot of chemistry with Chris Robinson on GH but the writers obviously weren't interested in testing that at AW. That connection likely was not duplicable, anyway. I think she might have been dynamite with Doug Watson but that obviously wasn't going to happen -- though I wouldn't have been averse to another Rachel-Mac breakup, I'm not sure fans were in the mood for it.
  9. I'm glad they're giving her something to do in the wake of BH/Doug's death. I just hope it's not another hooked on pills or alcohol story.
  10. Could Johnny still by lying? I have no idea why Alex would agree to keep quiet if all Johnny & Joy had done was kissed. He'd laugh and say, "What's the big deal?"
  11. I think Galen as Arnold is much more entertaining than Galen as Rafe, so I don't mind it, either.
  12. Yes, we didn't get scenes like this under her pen. This was glorious to a longtime viewer. This one, at least.
  13. My mom and grandma watched AW and I have vague memories of Robin Strasser's Rachel, Sam Groom's Russ and Rue McLanahan's Caroline. That would likely have been 1970 and 71. They both stopped by the time I started watching on my own, which was likely around '75. I knew this show was different than any of the other soaps I saw (though I also liked DAYS). I later understood that the difference was Harding LeMay. And I fell in love with Vicky Wyndam's Rachel, Beverlee McKinsey's Iris and Bev Penberthy's Pat. I kept watching through some mighty poor on-screen years, primarily due to the continued presence of Wyndham and the later additions of Linda Dano, Anna Stuart, Anna Holbrook and Anne Heche. I was so excited for LeMay's return in 1988, and he made the show vital again in a short time. Unfortunately, it was a long, slow slide to oblivion after that. Which I, too, watched until the end.
  14. I really liked her. And considering her recasts were total flops, I'd say she go the last laugh.
  15. Vicky Wyndham would be a great get but she probably wouldn't be interested.
  16. Yes, the last really decent storyline Maggie got was her (abbreviated) involvement with Don, though I did like what little I saw of her den mother phase with Melanie, Nathan and assorted other young folk. The Victor storyline was almost as outlandish as the Rachel-Carl romance on AW, but like in that case, it at least gave screen time to a "mature" actress. I love her, regardless of how badly she's been treated by some writers.
  17. I haven't watched the episode yet but my guess would be John. No, she said, "John sends his love, too." We saw blood around a wound to his chest. That doesn't necessarily mean "dead dead" in Ron's world, of course.
  18. Who was Marlena talking to on the phone when Leo barged in? She said something like "I can't believe your father is 90 years old."
  19. I thought her saying she owed her singing career to Doug explained that. And it was worth to have her leading the case in "Always." What I don't buy is that Liz didn't keep in touch with anyone in Salem all these years. And though I thought the Liz-Marie sniping was stupid, it did remind me how much I liked that storyline back in the day.
  20. Scannell certainly has the look but the chemistry between Julie Osburn and Stephen Schnetzer was so unique and wonderful that I'd rather remember it fondly than risk a pale imitation of it. Then again, Schnetzer did have chemistry with almost everyone, so who knows?
  21. A young Jamie Frame and Dennis Carrington discovering the remains of Rocky the stableman in a plastic bag under the floorboards of the Cory boathouse on Another World.
  22. I much prefer her that way, but I'm sure she'll descend into camp silliness at any moment. Ron's still writing, after all.
  23. I quite liked Brandon as Jake the mechanic, especially his relationship with Gwen. His Stefan, not so much. (Ditto with post-Jake Gwen.) But I hope he gets something else quickly.
  24. RIP. He looked so thin when he came back from his extended time off awhile back, I figured something was wrong. He seemed like a terrific guy in real life, my thoughts go out to his natural family and his DAYS family.
