It's not just lefty populists that resort to misogyny and racism when they didn't get their way. Left centrists are just as guilty of that too.

I don't consider Viki & Dorian matriarchs in the traditional sense. To me they're OLTL's primary Heroine & Anti-Heroine like ATWT's Kim & Lisa or AMC's Erica & Brooke. What I meant by Matriarch was the older woman who becomes their respective soaps conscience and/or Grand Dame ala Y&R's Katherine, GL's Bert, AMC's Kate, GH's Audrey, RH's Maeve, ATWT's Nancy, SFT's Jo, etc. One could make the case that Renee eventually grew into that role but Pat Elliott isn't inextricably linked to OLTL in most fans eyes in the way the aforementioned matriarchal figures are to their soaps.

OLTL is the only modern soap without a matriarch.

Look at the votes. Black Women have been trying to save America from itself for years.

I've never seen a character eat a show faster than Kim. Within a year & a half of her arrival the show legitimately could've been retitled Kimberly's Hope.

Until the Professional Left starts listening to POC with intersectionality in mind they're going to continue to lose.

They fought like real sisters too. I wish Erin would've stayed because I can't see OLTL trashing her version of Jessica the way they did Bree's.

Every 5 years Y&R has a huge cast turnover & it really affects longterm storytelling. Sometimes the turnover works for the better & other times it's for the worse. The early 90s were fun but the biggest issue was the Y&R quickly went from a true ensemble show to The Newmans & everyone else. There's a ton of other stuff (both good & bad) affecting that particular era of the show but one of the key mistakes (losing Rex & Leanna) was a huge problem. One of the best things about the writing & having Jess Walton as a recast was being able to reestablish Kay & Jill's friendship. Y&R got away from that during Brenda's second run largely because the writers & Brenda were stuck on turning Jill into Alexis Carrington. But once Jeanne finished playing the initial Marge story & Jess came into her own as Jill they were (easily) one of the best things about the show.
