  1. Only on SON can we discuss Loving in the midst of politics thanks DRW50 for the biggest smile all day.

When it comes to the counting it takes time it would be different if they were looking at mail that arrived after the polls closed. I hope people can stay safe.

  2. You do not have to just know it is not all people who voted for the current president. Many go for what they think benefits them not caring what it does to others. I live in a battleground state but under 40% of the electorate went to Biden in my  county. part of it is racial motivated sadly but the moral majority of the 70s took hold here and never let go. They won’t vote for anyone who is pro choice or Catholic. Being a Democrat or Independent is seen as wrong. I had a leaflet left in my door last week about the abortion issue from a church and literally that and guns is enough to convince some to vote Republican as that is the only righteous path. so they do believe in love your enemies or so they say and turning the other cheek, but I do not see it.

  3. Before I watched Y&R with any regularity (aired during school) and just read soap summaries, I thought Jabot was pronounced like Jab-ot, no idea why.

Due to how some soap magazines covered some shows and focused on only a few characters, I was surprised when I watched them and realized the cast was bigger than it actually was. SOD did a good job with promoting much of the Days cast, but with the P&G soaps for example I knew maybe 5-6 actors at any given time before I watched those shows.

  4. It was after 3 pm eastern, so over an hour, and the chat is supposed to be only that long. And since Alan didn't have anything to announce it did end awkwardly, he could have thanked everyone for coming and said due to the time we can end. :)

Jada and Liz were both friends with David, but their relationships and perceptions were very different. I think if Liz didn't know David was in therapy for years that she'd be stunned. Kind of a big thing to hear about someone you worked with for decades, and never knew that about them. And perhaps Liz was surprised Jada was so candid, but I appreciated that. From some statements read elsewhere it sounded like David was from the midwest, and Irish Catholic and born in the 1930s. Thinking about that, I could absolutely understand why, as his life would have been so much easier if he was straight or had been willing/able to have a sham of a relationship to pass like a good amount of people in the business (and in general) did decades ago.  You can find happiness, or even come to terms in many ways with ones issues, but doesn't mean that you can't have some bouts of self-doubt or wonder what if.

ETA: Monika I agree with you, I wish Jennifer could be helping at least to ask the questions if she didn't want to be on screen during the chat, as she does know the stories and the actors for the years that RTV has aired the show. And the Friday thing, I used PTO to watch this afternoon, so I get what you mean.

  5. Tom being divorced was part of the character’s backstory. he lied to his wife telling her that Huntington’s disease ran in his family and convinced her to abort their baby so the child would not have the illness. It was a lie as he was not a carrier and only worried he would abuse their child if it lived and did not want to be a parent.

  6. That story about the soap that shall not be named is horrifying mikelyons though not surprising. It seems like daytime has been like that for ages if you are in and have a strong ally than you can work, otherwise not. The person who blocked you, argh. I was told decades ago, if someone is seen as too much of a "fan" of a particular program it was more difficult to even get an internship interview, so it seems like they really appreciate people who are ignorant. Of course, if one hires that way in a few months you will probably need someone else.

With the writers' room, well again many hires are people who just want to hold on to their jobs, and go from show to show, so the lack of any diversity is not a shock. Also for the most part I doubt they actually have a room, correct?

  7. For a few episodes in the early 90s someone that wasn’t Maeve played Vanessa there was no reason known at the time behind that. But Bryan Buffington remembered that ofc as it was odd it was not Maeve. In the early 80s when Anna Stuart filled in I believe that was when Maeve took an extended maternity leave. At that time GL being produced by Allen Potter who gave Anna her first job at The Doctors meant that she was known. later on when Maeve was not full time at GL I can see someone suggesting that if Maeve could not be a regular having the part recast may be a good idea.

  8. The reason people couldn't stand the Maryanne plot was it rewrote the backstory for many of the characters as it took place in 1977. We know what Ed and Alan looked like (even if you weren't watching in the 70s, they were already in Springfield by that time.) Alan was raising Philip and president of Spaulding Enterprises, he was not that young, same with Ed, he was raising Freddie and Chrissy aka Rick and Blake and was already a qualified doctor and not on his first marriage. Billy was off screen in Tulsa, raising Mindy, Josh would have been starting or already at Berkley in CA, and much younger than the rest. Buzz though was thought to have died in Vietnam during the war, which was already over prior to 1977. When Buzz returned to Springfield in 1993 NO one recognized him (not Ed or Billy who were regulars at the time). Billy and Buzz were in the same story and Billy was married to Nadine who was still technically Buzz's wife as he hadn't died, so why would have Billy ever married Nadine if he knew Buzz was alive.

The parts about Ben I agree with you that made me so upset.
