  1. I actually did seek out a snippet of her AW days, but I couldn't watch more than about a minute. I don't exactly remember what was going on (but managed to catch both Geraldine Court and Kathleen Widdoes) but I sure didn't see Vanessa-isms. It would be interesting to see if any other notable names were considered. But I agree--I can't really see anyone else in the role. Someone like Anna Stuart had the same look, but is so distractingly different when she subbed in during the Diane Ballard murder case.
  2. I know. And I have looked. I've caught about three tiny snippets of them in 80/81. and that's IT. So someone has/had them at one time. The tv recaps I've found say they slept together a couple of times from Vanessa's arrival in '80 to Feb of '81. I'd also love to see her suicide attempt, but that's no where either.
  3. Thanks! Bonus: I saw the Vanessa/Ross fur coat drop.
  4. Is there any of Alan and Rita's affair online? I haven't found anything.
  5. Right? It's a wonderful idea but for all we know, it's the same twenty clips in different patterns. I think the only one I was ever able to make out was Ellen with Dani.
  6. I actually didn't mind Maeve apart from the Reva/Kyle disaster. She actually had a nice dynamic with Fletcher. Being one of Reva's also-rans is never an enviable position. LOL...a howitzer would be "quiet" compared to Reva.
  7. And from what I gathered, EON wrapped it up just two months after the announcement of the cancelation. LOL...Leslie Denniston--bless her heart, she tried.
  8. Well...yeah....lol I do wonder why the quick exit from GL. It's just two years. If LM got a better offer, or GL decided it wasn't working.
  9. I was trying to think of a character they could've brought back from the past for LM to play, but couldn't. I can't really see him as a Chamberlain. Moving Jake to ATWT was a debacle. I resented the way this dude was suddenly eating air time like funnel cakes at the fair.
  10. Yeah, I just don't get the point of the character, other than throwing another man at Reva. I wonder if Kyle/Reva would've been as popular if Josh had been on the show. The only positive aspect was sinking the farcical HB/Reva marriage.
  11. I really expect someone to reassure me that LM had long runs on EON and AMC for good reasons, and that sometimes even good actors can't overcome bad writing. As for his coaching, someone would have to remind me who or when he coached. If he's behind Todd Rotondi/Jen Onsach on ATWT in the early 00's, I wouldn't be impressed.
  12. Is it just me, or is Larkin Malloy a graduate from The. William. Shatner. School of Act-ING ? I'm sure the stilted dialogue and talking endlessly to portraits doesn't help, but he just doesn't seem like a good fit for the show.
  13. "I'm sure this times it's forever.." (with jazz hands!) ROTFLMAO. At least Alex didn't have to kiss Reva's ass.
  14. kalbir--thanks for the clairification. I checked---that's when HB and Reva came back married and Josh had his accident. Contessa---well, according to wiki--that year (1981) the eligibility ran from March 1980 to March 1981. The award was given out in May. Jane started GL in March 1981. While I'm not acquainted with what Jane won for (I'd guess witholding her father's meds) or exactly when she left GH, I'm not sure any ABC executive would care to publicize a time slot competitor's actress. WAIT---someone hired Ryan Brown AFTER GL? LAWD.
  15. Well, I don't think it's so mysterious--Monty was probably po'd Jane had jumped to GL. It's so weird, '84 is the year GL knocked GH out of #1, and all I can think as I watch is how it's falling apart. It starts off strong, with Vanessa and Billy's wedding/Alex's return, and dissolves under the weight of both the Dreaming Death and the Susan Piper/Barbados stories.
  16. @ContessaDonatella although I just realized that they didn't even award Supporting performances until a couple of years into the emmys, which just seems whack to me. It is hard to argue with 1981's supporting actress winner though---Jane Eliot. Otalia--sigh. I always found Olivia too shrill to care about. Not only was Natalia a dull dull DULL character, the only real opinion I would have on the relationship is that it was edgier than Luke/Noah, which isn't much of a standard. I love Daniel Cosgrove---but honestly more for Bill's family relationships than his romances. After the suckitude of Ryan Brown, Cosgrove seemed to channel early Jordan Clarke easily. And yeah---easy on the eyes.
  17. I really do have to block out that Beth was in college when Bill was born. I generally dislike Beth Chamberlain's portrayal during the entirety of her second run anyway. While I agree Cosgrove is a tad too old, and would have LOVED to see Buffinton grow in the role, that die was cast the moment Budig was cast as Michelle years earlier. I thought Cosgrove fit as Billy and Vanessa's son and could act. Unlike Ryan Brown or any of Reva's children. GAWD....the awful woodenness of St. Alban. SMH. It's even sad to me that she only ever got two nominations. And only as supporting for ATWT.
  18. There's always too many to mention, but on the top of my list right now is Lisa Brown.
  19. And other than Liz Hubbard (who could chew scenery when the material was subpar) I can't think of anyone who could even come close. Maybe Susan Flannery, but she projected a coldness that was more bitter and innate than Alex's.
  20. We've already lost so many greats, the academy should really make the effort to celebrate the legends before they pass.
  21. I think P&G valued the show and writing emmys more. And I might even understand that---they truly are ensemble shows in the 80's. Until Zimmer starts winning with these scenery chewing emmy bait storylines and the emmys get broadcast at night (instead of the afternoon luncheon) I'm not sure that the actors seemed "important" enough to promote.
  22. And other than scratching my head over Jeff Phillips, I have zero problems with any of those nominations. I'd agree with kalbir---Santa Barbara's endless string of nominations was fishy. I've seen this referenced dozens of times....what was the thing with Rausch and Maeve? (I once tried watching her AW stuff---all I can say is she must've been thrilled with GL's wardrobe dept.) I forget how incestuous P&G's casting was. I never realized until recently that Kathleen Widdoes played both Maeve's and Lisa Brown's mothers on different shows.
  23. Thanks for posting that interview---I'll admit, I had no idea Bev had done any of that. Not having grown up watching AW, I've never looked up her time there. You would have thought that P&G would've learned it's lesson after losing her from AW/Texas over working conditions to not have done the same on GL. I'd have to see Bev's drawling "daddy", but Maeve clipped "now, dad-dy dar-ling" certainly rates a mention.
  24. Honestly, did Reva have a successful pairing other than Josh? I know every pairing will have fans, but the only ones the show seemed to take seriously were Kyle and Jeffrey. I don't know what happened with Larkin Malloy, but they tanked that pairing fairly fast. And I can't even discuss Brad Cole seriously. LOL...that story's funny. I can see her bellying up to a bar and ordering bourbon. Bev seems like that kind of gal. It's so sad we didn't get more of Beverlee and Chris Bernau than we did. You literally can't take your eyes off them in scenes. It's the same kind of shark vs. shark vibe that Bev and Michael Zaslow give off later. Didn't most of Sonni/Solita play out during the '88 writers strike? I didn't think Long wrote a lot of that.
  25. I've never watched her time at AW, and actually didn't realize she lost to people on her own show. On GL, I think Alex is a lot tougher role with many more layers. I'd almost argue that Alex and Reva are the only two women Long really liked writing for. They're the only ones who consistently drive story. The problem I usually had with Josh is he got whiney. He would go on and on about hating people feeling they had to protect him, but the moment his feelings were hurt, he usually ran away. LOL...I probably noticed ATWT's location shoots more when they included Carly/Jack.
