  1. The men's side is again an absolute bust while the women are creating absolute barnstormers.

It feels like an anomaly that this year's women's title comes down to No. 1 vs 2, even though there were plenty of upsets.

Personally, I always thought it was ridiculous to have men present Best Actress, women present Best Actor, and so on.  If I had my druthers, the previous year's winner in that category would be the one presenting the next year.  IOW, whoever won Best Actress LAST year should present Best Actress THIS year.

To tell you the truth, I always thought was David Copperfield was gay.  So this news is kinda surprising to me.

They did briefly have five previous winners in the same category, including the last winner, present the acting awards. I thought it was cool but time-consuming.

Yes, for years the previous year's Best Actor winner has presented the Best Actress Oscar, and vice versa. Do we know who will present in his place?

That hasn't been announced yet as far as I know. Maybe it'll be a woman. I've seen people suggest having Mira Sorvino do it as a #metoo statement.

They are so hungry for a winner that they'll do nothing.

Speaking of the Fed Cup.....the Pity Davis Cup team was announced and its the same sh!t players.....from Isner to Querrey to Johnson to an empty spot since Jack Flab Sock said no to Jim Courier. I am shocked he said no to him. He complained how he didn't have an off season and how he needed one to get into better shape. I guess he hasn't realized that when you win you don't have an off season. What an idiot. Speaking of idiot....it scares me to think that Jim Courier would actually give this racist Sandgren the last spot on the Davis Cup team.

I suspect you're right, but it won't be without serious backlash.

Chung was so composed throughout the majority of the match. It was great to see him grab this match, for many reasons.

I saw it on ESPN Deportes. Much better than listening to those yahoo chatterboxes on the English language stream.

    For many reasons. Many reasons.

It'll be interesting to see how the USTA handles Sandgren should this tournament be more than a fluke.

I was very unhappy with Pam Long during her first reign on TGL, when 2/3 of the cast was purged and stupid sci-fi/fantasy plots were inflicted on us, but she did become a much better writer the more she "got real" and focused on interpersonal relationships, romance, and family drama. Her handling of the Rick and Phillip relationship was wonderful, and she handled Bert Bauer very well. TGL, to me, ended up representing Pam Long's best work in daytime TV.

I'm sure she would have brought some good things to GL in the '90s. But I also realize that, around that time, every soap wanted to achieve DAYS' Reilly-era success by mimicking its outlandish stories, and she would have certainly been forced to write the same type of sci-fi/fantasy stuff that B&E had to do in '98.

    Visual Effects:

  8. Phantom Thread really overperformed. Didn't see the Lesley Manville/PTA/Best Picture nominations coming.

Darkest Hour gets an unexpected Best Picture nod.

Glad Holly Hunter was snubbed. She had the least interesting performance of all The Big Sick's principal cast.

James Franco snubbed, and the Oscars dodge a bullet.

No Best Director for Three Billboards, which dings its frontrunner status.

Not a single nomination for Wonder Woman even in the tech categories.

I knew Tiffany Haddish wasn't getting nominated, but she had to be disappointed not to see her name while she was announcing the nominees.
