Who will get MVJ’s first big interview for BTG? I hope it’s you, @Errol. These writers and producers don’t talk to the press much anymore except to give the usual fluffy previews of their non-stories.

I’m so sorry for your loss. I thought perhaps Sam’s demise would drive Alexis to embrace her inner Helena, but doesn’t look like that’ll happen? It would probably be written poorly anyway. This show has botched JJ’s return as Lucky so badly. What a disaster and a waste of talent on this greasy, unwashed loser. At least Caveman Dante was hot.

Wait, is Mamie Johnson not her real name? There are lots of Black (and white) women, even members of my family, of that generation and older named “Mamie.” I do understand the sentiment that naming a Black domestic worker “Mamie” isn’t the best move. I do wish Y&R were bold enough to address the elephant in the room about Mamie’s role in the Abbott family. The way Jill treated and continues to treat her is very disrespectful (and not without its own racial dynamics). Obviously, not all Black folk are raised the same, but I never see Lily, Devon, and Nate tell Jill to chill with her abuse toward Mamie. Very few Black people would allow an elder matriarch be spoken to that way.

Which could be good or bad! But it is what it is so I’ll wait and see before judging. He’s been out of the game for a while, and again, he’s not running the whole show (alone, that is). I have quibbles with the writing team on paper but you never quite know how things will turn out on a completely new soap and fresh slate. And, perhaps, a different approach from a network standpoint where characters aren’t “censored” as much as on the legacy shows.

He can be great! But he’s loathed by many GH fans for a reason. Of course, there were other forces at play at ABC, etc., that aided and abetted his worst instincts. (Plus, he was working on an established show and wanted to mold it in his own image. Longtime fans rarely love that.) He does do good stunts. I’m hoping that MVJ is a good check on him. I didn’t love Sunset Beach, but I know other people here did. He was a co-creator on that.
