  1. I think it was a little of both. Judi Evans didn't portray Beth as the typical, dewy-eyed, sweet-as-sugar heroine, and the writers responded to it. And really, even when Beth Chamberlin portrayed Beth later on, from 1989-91, I saw Beth the same way, but perhaps a bit shell-shocked from her kidnapping and subsequent inability to speak. It's only when Barbara Esensten and James Harmon Brown brought BC's Beth back during the Phillip/Harley era that Beth became a completely different -- and frankly, less endearing -- character, with the "victim aspects" of her character way overplayed.
  2. Who cares if they are? It's ALWAYS good to revisit when GUIDING LIGHT still was damn fine soap opera.
  3. Some folks have entirely too much time on their hands.
  4. According to Michael Malone, that indeed was the plan. Unfortunately, Clint Ritchie's accident and prolonged recovery altered the direction of the story.
  5. Don't let the hugs and smiles fool you, Cheap. This is a family at war. However, Dixie has come between him and his own mother, Ruth, suggesting she might not be "all there" from her latest resurrection. But the two had a MAJOR falling out and are not speaking at the moment. Actually, Babe's resurrection is the reason why the Martins are at odds. Babe wants AJ back, but Dixie has vowed not to neglect her grandson the way she had JR. Ruth is siding with Babe, putting herself at odds with Dixie; Krystal is worried that Babe's increasing drug habit (which stems from injuries she sustained in the tornado -- note Babe's dazed, glassy-eyed appearance) might put AJ in danger; and Tad is caught in the middle, with Krystal and Opal there to provide comfort as he and Dixie move further and further apart. Actually, it's Emma's first holiday with her new family: thanks to David, who needed Emma's stem cells in order to revive Babe, we now know that Emma is actually AJ's fraternal twin sister -- Babe didn't know she had given birth to twins -- and that Annie kidnapped her in order to replace her and Ryan's actual daughter, whom ex-husband Terry killed one night while attempting to molest. And Simone's just horny.
  6. Yep. Recasting him with JVD -- who, don't get me wrong, is a brilliant actor -- was not the brightest idea.
  7. I must hand it to Mr. Cameron Mathison: whenever it comes to publicity, career opportunities, or just pleasing his audience, he is an absolute whore. But he never pretends to be someone or something he isn't.
  8. "14 Signs You Need to Get Laid"? Last time I checked, all you needed was the one -- namely, that you weren't getting any.
  9. Pretty much. Before Agnes Nixon sold ALL MY CHILDREN and ONE LIFE TO LIVE to the network, her company, Creative Horizons, Inc., was virtually responsible for both shows' operating costs, with ABC providing the licensing fees (I think). However, the longer they stayed on-air, the more cost-prohibitive they became for her and for the company. It's the same reason why Claire Labine and Paul Avila Mayer sold RYAN'S HOPE to ABC as well in 1979.
  10. Oh, wait, is it from one of those "Love in the Afternoon" promos? I seriously had no idea.
  11. OMG, where in the world did this come from? LOL!
  12. IA. I'm a sucker for long hair. The longer, the better.
  13. Scruff or no scruff, Kin Shriner is always attractive to me, because he's more than just looks.
  14. Is there any other kind?
  15. Well, that makes two (billion) of us.
  16. I don't think I would like the idea of GH's Dr. Lesley Webber not being Laura's biological mother, especially when longtime GH fans are aware of the hell Lesley went through just to locate Laura after being out of her life for so long. I'd come closer to accepting that Ceara's father and Laura's bio dad, Prof. Gordon Grey, were half-brothers, or that Lesley and Ceara's mother were half-sisters. But really, was it absolutely necessary to rewrite so much history on three separate soaps for a character (Gretel Rae) who was supporting BITD and never had that much of an impact on the history? IMO, all this ret-conning and revising of Skye's origins is something you do for the likes of Judith Light.
  17. Same. I love Lenore Kasdorf's hair whenever it's longer.
  18. So fresh-faced, so virginal, so...not Abby Ewing.
  19. Announcer: You never know what laughs the stork will deliver on "Battle for Babies," Wednesday nights on ABC!
  20. And I would have been, like, "That explains SOOOOOO much."
  21. Or Star Jones. (Star: Oh, HELL no!)
  22. Oh, I forgot about that appearance on the Emmys. Just as I forgot about that other cameo she did for TLC's "Trading Spaces." (I tell you, the look on Paige Davis' face when Rae showed up wondering if Hildi had used the Bible as wallpaper for her team's house....)
  23. I don't know why Rae's quest was limited to the ABCD soaps. She easily could have appeared on "The View," asking whether Elisabeth Hasselbeck was "the one"; or shown up on "Dharma & Greg," with a clue tying Dharma to the Fannie Battle Home. I mean, the possibilities were endless.
