"The Conners" Discussion Thread
"Our Rhoda" being fired from any series was just too traumatic for many to accept. From the TVLine article posted by John: 7. Now playing the role of Roseanne Conner is… Christopher Plummer. YES.

As The World Turns Discussion Thread
Nah, he's just letting the ladies grope him. Do I believe Katie/TC ate the show? No. Is/was she largely (or even singlehandedly) responsible for ATWT's ultimate demise? Again, no. But TPTB tried way too hard to sell her as a heroine; and as a result, I think many viewers were simply turned off. (But, you know, dragonflies IS right when she says an actor or character doesn't have to be on everyday, in every scene, in order for the entire show to be about them. GL's obsession with all things Jeffrey O'Neill/Bradley Cole is proof of that.)

In either case, Becky could be the one to whine, "WHY IS DADDY NOT CRYIN'?!".

I think I'd watch just long enough to see Darlene smash the bowl and cry, "DAMN! DAMN! DAMN!," lol.

"The Conners" Discussion Thread
Here's an idea: let's say the Conners are in the middle of a big party to celebrate their move to Mississippi, where Roseanne has landed a new job managing a gas station, when Dan reads a telegram informing him that Rosey has been killed in an automobile accident. Actually, now that I think about it, I think that story's been done already. Killing her off AND burning all her photographs. That way, they'd never have to pay Roseanne for the use of her likeness either.

That, Ms. Campos-Duffy, is what we, in the AA community, call "playin' you for a fool."

I never understood why ATWT didn't want to "take a Hike" (for "Henry + Mike") either. Especially when, IMO, they were more root-able than Luke and, well, anyone.

I won't either. However, I remain happy that the rest of the cast -- and more importantly, the crew -- will remain employed for awhile; and that, best of all, Roseanne herself is off mah damn TV screen (for now).

I think it would have been more effective to have the children inside the actual camps on the cover.

Well, I'm glad someone (namely, CZ) enjoyed Barbara and Henry's relationship. Too bad there were others who didn't. Henry paired with ANY woman never made sense. I'm sorry, but there you have it.

What did he do on PD? I can see why JBP was Old Spice's pitchman for awhile.

The Politics Thread
When you're the First Lady, you know all eyes will be upon you, and that people will scrutinize your every move. Even if Melania wasn't actually saying she didn't give a f**k about the immigrant babies and children being forced into concentration camps, she (or her team) had to have been aware of the kind of statement wearing that particular jacket would have made at that particular moment. So, either they're clueless, or they truly do not care. (Or, it's probably a little of both, lol.) Aunt Bee and Marion Cunningham would be beside themselves at the sight of their Opie/Richie being so salty.

Poor Ann Larimer. That character really devolved from how she seemed in the beginning. For Steve, though, I would have introduced Matt's heretofore unknown sister, a widow with two or three kids, who comes to Madison as she adjusts to life after her husband's untimely passing.

"The Conners" Discussion Thread
Well, they could say she ran off with David Duke. We're taking up enough bandwidth, lol. I say just change the name. Same. Just the same, I'd LOVE it if they were to cast Edie McClurg as the family's annoying, new neighbor.

I can't blame her for being pissed, though. Ivanka is just one of the most exasperating people ever to walk the earth.

Usually, that's a sign that TPTB have run out of ideas for a character. Sort of like Raymond Chandler's edict about bringing in a man with a gun whenever you have no idea what to write next.

This might sound something that Ron Carlivati would do, but I always thought it would've been neat if, for one episode, they had all the Toms (yes, including Jason Kincaid, lol) appear in one episode. They wouldn't have had to all play Tom, since that would have been TOO confusing. However, I would've given some of the actors maybe cameos or walk-ons.

All My Children Tribute Thread
Not necessarily. On his way out of Pine Valley, Eric Kane betrayed his daughter's trust by selling the stocks of Enchantment that she had given him to (I think) Natalie. After that, I don't think she had much contact with her father -- not even when it was revealed that she had been raped at his Hollywood house when she was fourteen, that Kendall was the product of said rape, or that Eric basically pimped out Erica to her rapist in order to get him to appear in one of his movies -- until she received word that he had passed away (this time, for real).

The Politics Thread
marceline said it best: the Republicans always wreck the economy. Always. Look, maybe those parents ARE choosing to enter this country illegally WITH their children, knowing they will face criminal (misdemeanor) charges, while their children are taken away from them and placed in detention camps. However, I'd ask those who support this to consider the fact that, in most cases, these individuals AND their families are fleeing impoverished, dangerous circumstances back home, in the hopes that they will find asylum here, and provide brighter futures for their children and grandchildren. They don't WANT to be prosecuted or have their children detained, but what's the alternative for them? Remaining where they are and either getting killed or becoming even more destitute? If you attempt to enter this country legally, there's so much red tape to cut through. Frankly, you might not live long enough, or you STILL might not be granted passage. True, they're entering illegally, but even illegally, there's a chance -- a slim chance, maybe, but still, a chance -- that they might elude authorities at the borders.

"Despicable" doesn't begin to describe these latest atrocities coming from the (tiny) hands of our current administration. Separating children from their parents? Relocating them to "tent cities"? What's next? Starving them? Shaving off all their body hair? Tattooing numbers on all their arms? If only Donald Trump had a bunker to crawl into....

The soap opera writers' discussion
Claire Labine was a big fan of Greek tragedy, and a big believer in psychology, so that might explain some things. Similarly, I think I read somewhere that one of Agnes Nixon's biggest influences was Louisa May Alcott. If so, then THAT might explain why stories about young love, mixed with contemporary issues, tended to be where Nixon shone greatest as a writer. I know we've said this before, but it always bears repeating: Wisner Washam never gets enough credit for the tremendous work he did as AMC's HW during the early- and mid-'80's. In the entire history of that show, in fact, there were only three writers who truly "got" AMC: Agnes Nixon (of course), Lorraine Broderick (even if she wrote more clunkers than the other two) and Washam.
