Brad Bell said in SOD for the May Sweeps preview, quote: "Katie is not really available right now because Heather [Tom] is directing DYNASTY"

Heather Tom seems to be doing okay, she appeared April 24 in a selfie on Christie Clark's instagram
    https://www.instagram.com/p/Ccvp-b0Dsw6/

    Thanks!

The part of Tom directing at Dynasty is a cop-out - unless she is directing the rest of the show's current season because she has NOT done so since an episode that aired August (!) 2021.

That said, I'm not against the rather loose on/off-appearances from Katie because Tom is always a joy to watch, yet the show is not in desperate need to have Katie around 24/7.

    April 2022 Episode Rankings
a total of 21 Episodes aired this Month
    thanks to @jcar03 as always!

Contract Stars Not appearing this month:
    1.) Darin Brooks (Wyatt Spencer)
    2.) Heather Tom (Katie Spencer)

I'm curious what is going with Heather Tom. She has been absent for so long - also for the anniversary parties and KKL's private events it seems.

    Wow, that's a great question!

Caroline started out as an ingénue, and gradually developed more layers and shades of grey as her initial idealism clashed with the real world and her own real emotions.

Sally started out as a two-dimensional over-the-top villain, but the longer she was on the show, the more layers started showing. We got to see her humorous side, her affection for her employees, her love for her daughter, her vulnerability to Clarke, and so on. The on screen development of her close relationship with Macy was also beautifully done.

I couldn't agree more about Sally.

As for Caroline: I also really liked that she had a career in journalism. Sure, she only got the chance due to daddy, but it added something valuable to the character for the couple of months where they heavily used Eye on Fashion as well as Valerie as her sidekick. This was of course still in the days where Brooke has a respectable career as a chemist. For the past 10 years Brooke has been walking around LA minding everyone's business but no longer seems to be nvolved with real business which is a shame.

Why was the German episodes cancelled after February 1988 episodes ?

I thought that I saw some 90s episodes in German before, but I am unsure.

Did it return in Germany with 90s episodes and they skipped the remainder of the 80s ?

On German Free-TV only the full years 1986-1987 were shown. It then moved to Pay-TV for the following 1988-1989 episodes. On another Pay TV channel the Y&R then returned with episodes starting September 1995 until Fall 1997. Most of these episodes were never re-broadcast. The episodes in the Vault are from a (rare) rerun cycle.

Y&R made a surprise comeback to broadcast television in conjunction with B&B with Sheila's 2005 return. It was cancelled after 100 episodes, though.

    I swear that's Kristian Alfonso at 0:36.

Didn’t recognize her, BUT she was on Falcon Crest for two seasons (1988-1990) which of course aired in CBS, so your eyes probably did not deceive you.

Last days i have been watching 2005 episodes from the YT BB chanel. I have forgotton how good was Felicia's cancer/baby story. Susan Flannery plays great! And of course i neve remembered the Stephanie Duglas fund and that Stephanie took over FC. I must have slipt my mind. Cant wait to see the whole Felicia story.

IMO, B&B was amazing as soon as Taylor came back from the dead in May 2005, had a breakout fall with the legendary Kay Chancellor visit and Stephanie kicking Eric in the groin and Felicia’s cancer return. It probably fizzled sometime in 2006 when Brad Bell undid Felicia dying and paired her with Antonio Sabato Jr, Nick Marone going ballistic over Brooke modeling (a huuuuuge WTF exit story for Massimo Marone) and the very prominent arrival of NuDonna which was such a crappy nonstory. 2006 was painful to watch at times.

Really... how interesting... I wonder how he worked that out... he must have been in the Writer's Guild union and would have been tainted as a "scab" if he was writing during the strike.

Bill Bell had loooooong and detailed story projections most of the time. The scab writers could always work on these outlines for at a couple of months before they had to invent their own storylines, so depending on the length of the strike it was not that noticeable. And I always thought it was interesting that many classic Bell show writers for the ad agency circles started around the late 80s and early 90s. Maybe they filled in during the strike and started their career back then.

I like Tracy Melchoir as an actress, but I would've cast a name as Kristen. I find it so odd Kristen and Felicia remained gone for so long considering they were core characters. Seeing these early episodes, it's even more shocking Kristen never returned sooner when you consider how complicated her relationship was with Stephanie and her deep connection with Eric. Everything they've done with her character since the 2001 return is a disgrace and a waste of a potentially fiery character that could've shaken the canvas up.

Kristen's return was never intended to be about Kristen. She was plot device to anchor the Latin/HIV story. And I fully agree; I had no idea what a big character she used to be. Felicia's returns were always more on point albeit much briefer in comparision.

I caught up over the weekend and there was a standout scene to me from (I think) 1522 which really put the spotlight on how different the show is today. Sheila went to visit Taylor to ask her to throw a party for her and Eric's upcoming wedding. Taylor balked at the idea and accused Sheila of manipulation without missing a beat. Sheila meanwhile defended her request very assertively but rationally; adamant she's been mistreated by Stephanie and wants Taylor to be a neutral peace keeper.

Have you been watching the crossover episodes as well? I always wanted to watch in synch but then got too greedy to wait out on the plentiful consecutive  B&B uploads while Y&R is incomplete. But by the January 1993 episodes, I decided to watch Y&R along (at least the Sheila/Lauren/Molly/Scott scenes) to have the full experience. Boy, it is STELLAR TV.

EDIT: I'll label the episodes available here: 1993-January 7, 8, 12 (partially used as flashbacks in #1459), 13 (partially used as flashbacks in #1459), 14 ...

Is Karen gonna be important to the story somehow or will she just stick to be Brooke's bff which is so degrading to her btw ? Isn't Karen just a Third wheel to the show ?

By 1993 Karen's story was mostly over... She's getting some PSA type material and romance with Connor, but nothing much comes out of it. Her airtime will decrease dramatically if I remember right.

As for Connor: I only REALLY remember his first few months (major BEEF with Ridge and being Brooke's attorney during the fight for BeLieF) before he was insta-fixed up with Karen and started to fizzle. In my memory, the bigest "role" Connor then had was to play the same sex version of Murder She Wrote's Jessica Fletcher and Seth Hazlitt with his significant other being Dr. Warwick. I swear they spent YEARS sitting in either character's office talking about Taylor, Brooke and/or Sheila. That said: I found Connor likeable but very bland because he was simply under-developed as character.

  10. Ahem, this loonie tunes version of Diane does not fit the previous portrayals at all!?

And: I haven't watched Y&R in a while but was shocked at the bad make-up/lack thereof on Jason Thompson, Peter Bergman and Eileen Davidson. They all looks really unflattering I that promo. Nice that the show keeps Beth Maitland around, though. She's always great.

  11. Christmas 1992, Episode 1445, has the first Christmas greetings adressed to the audience it seems. And looks who is there. The ENTIRE Bell family! Whilst only Bill Sr. is speaking, we also have Bill Jr, Lauralee, Lee and a young Bradley (with his later wife Colleen!) front and center.

PS: Brad has honored this tradition occasionally over the years...

I do feel that the introduction of Sally Spectra in episode 452 breathed new life into the show. The Logans - other than Brooke - had become increasingly isolated (basically just serving as a dating pool for the Forresters) and it was wise to introduce a new group of characters with a more natural common ground with the Forresters outside of the romantic possibilities.

Also of note is that originally Sally was not that funny but rather menacingly dangerous sort of Rose DeVille II. They quickly fleshed her out and added the camp factor, but I found it fascinating nonetheless.

Thanks to the angel for the recent contribution. To be honest, I feel Videoland/RTL may drop the classic episodes in the next ~18 months or so. From a business perspective, it doesn’t make financial sense for them to continue paying thousands for the broadcast rights when their core audience will inevitably transition to YouTube given the episode output will eventually surpasses that of Videoland.

Videoland is a DUTCH pay-for-view site like Netflix. They want content for Dutch viewers, hence the subtitles. There is zero corelation, IMO.

i hope to do again from april, so you all can get the episodes :)

    i love you all!!! 🥰

That explains a lot. The pacing has been very odd and there’s lots of flashbacks. It definitely started to feel like something had changed. I may start jumping forward to the end of this writers strike. I’m going to try to find episode recaps and see if I’ll miss anything worthwhile.

I found 1988 to be more interesting than 1987 because the Logan angle is soon DROPPED. Donna and Nick had more potential than they got. Clarke & Kirsten were one of the draws for me...

    Really?

Genuinely curious what you liked about him.
He always felt undefined to me.

The show put in A LOT of effort into the Grant character when he was introduced in 1996. He got a backstory with Taylor and was very much into country music and yoga (?). Least that I remember, he also gave Brooke a porcelain turtle (?) as a keepsake attached to a long pep-talk that Brooke should sell herself short by going after Ridge. It was pretty moving - and I liked Grant, too. He then became JR Ewing 2.0 out of a sudden and was shot by Rick. Eventually, Grant entered Macy's orbit with whom I liked him the best. It was pretty sad when the show killed him off so soon. That said, as of 1997 the show stopped defining him as a proper character.

I too thought the fight scenes between Ridge and Deacon were decent, and haven't seen a good showdown between 2 males in quite some time. Albeit, "two grandpas" fighting over a 60-year woman. It's usually the women having catfights. The last good recent catfight that stands out to me was from this show as well, Sheila vs Quinn.

    This was a GOOD one.

Except for Sarah Buxton and Krista Allen, are there any other actors/actresses that appeared on B&B and later on got contract for another role?

Minor roles there is a ton, but going for a contract role, only Don Diamont comes to mind even though he did a crossover from Y&R before becoming Bill Spencer - and was not a guest star in the classic sense.
