BTG: January 2026 Discussion Thread
Kat is so messy and a hypocrite. She was describing herself to Izaiah. 😂 I also think that modeling is an organic way to create conflict between Izaiah and Eva, but so many beats have been missed. And he's way too laid back in all his scenes. I don't buy him as a bad boy. He and Eva just don't do it for me. I could sympathize with Eva if she didn't act like Kat had no reason to hate her. Tit for tat.

ALL: Characters that fizzled
Speaking of Natalia, Rebecca Shaw was a flop. I liked NEM because it was a fairy tale romance. The chemistry between NL and Tyler Christopher was undeniable. But Emily could be a bit too saccharine. With that said, they were a great GH couple. But I will never understand killing Emily off -- only to bring NL back a year later.

ALL: Characters that fizzled
Indeed, it is that one. I've been on a Guiding Light binge, and the thread popped up. Too funny. I wish Soaps would stop trying to recreate magic. It didn't work with BE/RPG at AMC and it flopped just as hard with Stephen Nichols and Mary Beth Evans on GH.

ALL: Characters that fizzled
This has to be one of the biggest flops in all of daytime! Everything about it went completely wrong and ruined her rep. There's an old school thread around here that had me howling. 😂

The videos I've seen so far of her arrest are horrifying. They all need to be freed. Most lawyers agree that there won't be convictions but it's just the sheer harassment to incite fear and silence.

ALL: Characters that fizzled
I refuse to acknowledge that Skye Chandler is her daughter. It became a convoluted mess and then roped in the Quartermaines. She was a legacy character whose backstory was retconned to the pits just to prop up Rae. Good to know that this story was actually panned in real time. Michael Easton and all his non-John McBain characters were flops on GH. And yet we were stuck with one version after another. An honorable mention to Violet. Little Robin Scorpio, you were not. Roger Howarth as the long lost Quartermaine that went nowhere.

ALL: Characters that fizzled
Leslie Horan never clicked in the role (which wasn't needed), and Alexis was a much better fit as the long-lost Cassadine sister. SJB seemed to flop in every role that wasn't Carly. Claudia came off too hard, and the nuance was lost with the writer's changes. Tom Pelphrey as Mick/James Stenbeck on ATWT was a huge flop to me. I'm not sure how it was received at the time but YouTube recommended a video recently. I couldn't click out fast enough. It felt like a retread of Jonathan. Maybe I should've given the scenes more of a chance, but I passed. I know Rae Cummings isn't regarded as a flop in the soap press, but she was ham-fisted across all the ABC shows. Melissa Archer as Serena on DAYS was another dud.

Guiding Light Discussion Thread
Which version of Manny are you watching? I loved almost everything about them from the start. Until the Michelle recast. But I agree about the compound feeling like it is in its own world. But I suppose it was to make Michelle feel isolated. I liked San Cristobal at first, but it wears thin. The only silver lining is the introduction of Jonathan, which came long after the story wrapped. I've been reading your analysis of Kim Zimmer's book (my eternal gratitude for that), and it's incredible that she didn't want TP cast originally in the role that gave Reva and her new life as an actress.

Loving/The City Discussion Thread
Thanks for summarizing. I've been going back and forth if I wanted to watch. I appreciate what Alan has done with The Locher Room, but some interviews are hard to get through for some of the reasons you mentioned. But it's always good to see the vets and hear their thoughts.

Guiding Light Discussion Thread
Thanks for the backstory. I did like Richard initially, but the show couldn't exist in two places, and the royalty story was far-fetched (It is a soap, though). Since I'm on a Jammy loop, YouTube recommended some videos of Jonathan's return in 2009. I don't think Tom Pelphrey could even save the scenes I saw, which involved Jonathan helping Jeffrey in the woods after he's presumed dead. I don't think Cole or his two characters were worth the effort of spreading him so thin on the canvas.

GH: January 2026 Discussion Thread
Danny and Charlotte are Cassadines. Sam (Danny's mom) is Alexis/Nastasha's daughter, who is the daughter of Mikkos Cassadine. Valentin (Charlotte's dad) is the son of Victor Cassadine (Mikkos' brother) and Helena Cassadine. It's a lot, but I wouldn't care that much if the chemistry and acting were top-notch. I see it. I'd take AH over AS every single day. The writers have gone out of their way to handicap Lulu and make her more unlikable than usual. They've retreated from that, but she's just there. She's either whining about Charlotte or a placeholder for Maxie re: Nathan.

GH: January 2026 Discussion Thread
Speaking of couples, I don't think GH remembers that Danny and Charlotte are cousins. They're totally going there. 😂 I don't want to pick on kids but neither really impresses me in the role, especially the actor who plays Danny. I can tell he's trying but he's no NAC who pulled you in right away despite his age. And the chemistry just isn't there to get over them being family. I have a tepid interest in Lulu and Nathan. But I must say that I expected more out of AH joining GH. I'm glad GH course corrected and tamed her shrill chest pumping but something about the character feels off. I want to take these Britt scenes seriously but she'll go back to yelling at Jason by tomorrow. And yeah, GH has shown Martin to be a complete jerk to Tracy but I love their chemistry and banter.

Guiding Light Discussion Thread
I picked the right time to binge on Guiding Light. I'm looking forward to this, especially hearing their thoughts on how the San Cristobel story evolved and sputtered. It's never wise to split the show's central location. I never understood Cole leaving, only to return a year later as a new character. Jonathan was the true, lasting legacy anyway. I'd really love their thoughts on Colin. I had completely given up on GL that I didn't even know that the writers had a menopausal Reva give birth! WHY?! Seeing the clips on YouTube is a hard watch. I've really enjoyed reading the thread, and thanks to everyone who shared their analysis of Kim Zimmer's book, especially @alwaysAMC . I feel like I have the book in my hands and was almost there in real time for the shenanigans.

GH: January 2026 Discussion Thread
Oh yeah. Sam is Alexis's daughter, and Valentin is Charlotte's dad. They're cousins. Now, as a GL Jammy fan, I'm not one to judge. 😁 But the chemistry has to be there. I guess Danny is just helping her out if the writers have acknowledged their ties. I did like Jake and Charlotte from a few years ago. It's about time Trina (and the writers) recognize that Portia lied about Trina's paternity and that Taggert raised her. He's still her father.

BTG: January 2026 Discussion Thread
Shanice looks pretty. I love the new style. The BTG writers have got to stop being so heavy-handed. It's obvious that Kat is going to need Eva's help. We didn't need June, who sounds like an extra from The Color Purple, to take another swing with the hammer. Speaking of Kat, she needs to let Nicole mind her own cat. The woman is grown. And Leslie is insufferable as always.

GH: January 2026 Discussion Thread
Wow. I just checked my Audible, and I still haven't listened to Mo's book. But this makes me more interested in finally getting started. (Okay, I'm lying. I'm probably going to read Susan Lucci's new memoir, GL's Jonathan's Journey first). I feel for Tamara. She comes across as nice, considerate, and professional. And why shouldn't she have liked the Carly/Alcazar pairing? Those two were hot. MO is far too old, especially now, to be a grade-school bully, because another actor didn't think solely being in the Sonny/Jason orbit was the greatest gift. And screw Steve too. It makes more sense why she left GH and Alcazar's character was written out. I've been off the Mo train for a while. The ego on that man but being a jerk to his co-stars because the show dared not to be about him for once? Not cool.

BTG: January 2026 Discussion Thread
Naomi is the worst. I don't know what Jacob sees in this shrew. And I'll be honest, I don't care anything about her current struggles. They lost me with the character. Now, it would be interesting if she secretly got pregnant and tried to abort because of the gene. 100%. But I don't think the writers remember this. Eva should be in the gray area, but acts as if she never did anything wrong.

GH: January 2026 Discussion Thread
I feel like I heard that rumor too. I also think there was an issue between him and TB when she played Carly. I saw Maurice allude to it on State of Mind. If Steve did intervene, I'm not mad at it. Carly and Jason have a dysfunctional relationship but it's been platonic since Bush was in office and it should stay that way. GH needs to work on their other stories that don't involve Willow and Drew. I was so bored by today's episode. Britt being a raging b*tch every time she breathes is not compelling. Steve needs to say something here.

All of this. I'm TeamKat too. Blood doesn't mean you have to put up with toxic people. I used to like Eva but she throws rocks and hides her hands all the time. She's not an underdog but a whiner who gives off "on sight" energy but wants to play victim. Although, the writers compromised Kat by making her take NoMas back in an hour after he cheated. More capable writers could thread the needle as to why Nicole seems all up in Eva's behind but constantly dismisses her own daughter. Nicole comes off frigid most of the time. She doesn't have to be Dani but dang, lighten her up a bit.
