  1. Sad that no one is doing anything for Ryan's Hope 50th Anniversary - it has come and gone - and nothing has or is being planned Sad
  2. David Selby Gregory Harrison & Wendy Phillips Discuss Final Season
  3. My mistake: Johnny Bauer was created by Mary Ryan Munisteri. My point about Sarah Shayne was that Pam booted Jack & Lainie from running "Company" and replaced them with Sarah & Hawk running "Company." As Pam eventually wrote out Jack & Lainie in favor of elevating Sarah & Hawk.
  4. Considering how Pam Long moved so swiftly to axe the Wisconsin Bauer clan to install the Cooper family, that she might have negotiated a royalty payment to return to Guiding Light. This is speculation. But as a condition of her returning as head writer, she would receive a lifetime royalty for any new family she creates on the show. This is a show BUSINESS; people are always looking out for themselves. So while writers might not receive a royalty for any new character they create, some head writers might have the clout to negotiate a contract that has nothing to do with the writers guild. Sam Hall could have recognized the value ABC was gaining from his creation of the Buchanan clan and likely made it a condition of his return to receive a lifetime royalty. Pam Long might have done the same. After seeing how her creation of the Shayne family took off, she wasn't about to ripped off a second time. She might have stipulated in writing that if P&G wants her back as Head Writer, she requires a lifetime royalty if a new family she creates becomes successful (The Coopers).
  5. Back in 1987, Sheri Anderson was the head writer for Guiding Light, and she slowly started to expand the Bauer family. She introduced distant cousin Johnny Bauer. Then she added his parents, Lainie and Jack Bauer, to run "Company." Finally, Lacey Bauer was added as part of the Cameron/Dinah/Alan-Michael quadrangle. But Sheri Anderson wasn't done expanding the Bauer clan. On the drawing board was Johnny's brother Todd Bauer, and Frank Dicopoulos was hired for the part. Then Sheri Anderson was abruptly fired, and Pam Long was reinstated as head writer. Pam promptly removed the majority of Sheri Anderson's characters. Frank Dicopoulos was no longer Todd Bauer. Instead he became mechanic Frank Cooper. The character of Lacey Bauer was dropped, and Frank's sister, Harley Cooper, became the fourth member of the Cameron/Dinah/Alan-Michael quadrangle. Lainie and Jack Bauer no longer ran "Company." Instead, Reva's mother, Sarah Shayne, came to town, was seeking employment, and promptly started running "Company," working alongside her ex-husband, Hawk Shayne. This is one example of where one head writer would AXE characters created by their predecessor. In favor of inserting their own characters, they created.
  6. Pam Long created the Coopers - NOT Jill Farren Phelps
  7. I suspect because Sam Hall created the Buchanan family - who dominated the show until the end.
  8. the former head writer of One Life To Live, Sam Hall, sued ABC for stopping royalty checks when OLTL moved over to Prospect Park According to the complaint, ABC made a deal in 1984 with Wildercliff, Ltd. for Hall’s writing services. The agreement is said to have entitled Hall to a weekly royalty “as long as the One Life to Live series is broadcast.” A copy of the agreement was included as an exhibit in the lawsuit. The royalty payment was $1,000 per week, and it’s not spelled out whether “broadcast” is restricted to network television. Hall says he got those weekly royalties until Jan. 13, 2012, when the series ended on ABC. “Each week during which such exhibitions by each authorized entity occurred Hall was entitled to be paid the weekly royalties,” says the complaint. “Despite due demand, Hall has not been paid any of the weekly royalties to which he is entitled for the exhibition of the series by Prospect Park Productions, iTunes, Hulu and OWN, which total in excess of $50,000.” https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/business/business-news/one-life-live-writer-sues-669645/
  9. Cady McClain had a Cooney family reunion! Getting together with her on-screen brother Will #1 - Lonnie Quinn. He is now a weatherman for WCBS & CBS News
  10. Stumbled on this news item while I was researching something else. Kristen Vigard (Joy O'Neill) was originally cast on OLTL to be the new Tina! But writers decided to hold off on bringing Tina back (at that time) so they decided to create a brand new character for Vigard, and that is how the O'Neill family came to exist - read below
  11. What is ironic is when Gloria Monty returned to General Hospital she went back to the roots of soaps by introducing the middle-class Eckert family, and returned to traditional soap telling Ratings plummeted and Monty found herself getting the boot.
  12. Viki attends her high school reunion
  13. Erika Slezak 1992 Daytime Emmy Reel Reel #1: Viki returns to Llanfair after the fire Reel #2: Viki mourns the loss of her daughter Megan
  14. This struck me when I noticed the credits in 1986 - How Petronia Paley (Quinn) went from being billed last in 1981 to moving all the way up to FOURTH billing in 1986 (behind Wyndham, Watson & Ford) in just five years!
  15. In Olympia Dukakis book she writes that Joanna Lee was fired, and then the new producer fired 10 actors, a few weeks before Christmas. As Ellen Barrett began to bring in past Ryan's Hope people, both in front and behind the camera.
  16. Beverly Penberthy said Hugh Marlowe had a drinking problem, and was doing this job because he needed to support his family. So he was basically phoning it in, but at least he stuck to the script. Which was all Rauch and Lemay were concerned about.
  17. Dixie Martin & Greg Nelson run into each other on the subway!
  18. If you want to spend your time defending the indefensible, go for it. However, remember that the number of people on the Soap Opera Network Board who share your point of view on Rauch and MADD's conduct regarding Michael Zaslow is so small that they could fit in a phone booth.
  19. Rauch never returned to OLTL after leaving Guiding Light.
  20. Paul Rauch & MADD reputations are in the toilet. Is that clear enough for you?
  21. It just makes Guiding Light look BAD to have Michael Zaslow on OLTL - and they have never recovered from it. Do you hear anyone saying "Paul Rauch & MADD did the right thing?"
  22. From Michael Zaslow book Head writer Claire Labine was very excited about the prspect of returning me to One Life To Live in my former role. A few days later, however, things began to fall to pieces. One Life To Live wanted me, but they weren't sure for how many shows. Unfortunately my former employer placed a RESTRICTION on me, which would have affected my arbitration against them. My lawyers have forbidden me to discuss this in any detail, but I can say Proctor & Gamble has not honored our contract, forcing us to seek legal redress. AGAIN Zaslow says "my former employer (P&G) placed a RESTRICTION on me" - which means P&G stopped him from appearing on OLTL, as he was still contract. That led Zaslow with no choice but to file suit to get out of that contract.
  23. Guiding Light really missed the boat - the storylines possiblities were endless. Think of all the great PR Guiding Light could have gotten by incorporating an ALS storyline on the show Holly being torn between an ailing Roger and her husband Fletcher with a new baby, Roger using his illness to manipulate those around him, exploring Blake being caught in the "sandwhich" generation, maybe throwing Lillian in the mix as Roger's new care-giver and clashing with Holly or Blake, and Roger sitting back stirring the pot. They threw that all out the window.
  24. In Michael's book he makes it very clear P&G used every legal means to STOP him from appearing on OLTL. In the book the family writes that it wasn't Zas that pulled the plug on him appearing on OLTL, it was P&G who held him to his contract.
