B&B: Old/Classic Discussion & Articles
I couldn't stand Nick's conceited attitude. I hated the way Jack Wagner shouted all his lines. The idea that we were supposed to root for Nick because he was this supposedly manly rugged sea dog unlike Ridge the "dressmaker" was so un-B&B. I hated that he stole the sibling rivalry dynamic with Ridge from Thorne. But the worst was the singing. Every few weeks we would be subjected to a cheesy montage set to his mind-numbing elevator music you might expect to hear in a Dillards in the middle 90s. I assume the musical montages were contractually obligated by JW.

Beleza Fatal? Thanks for making me aware of this. I haven't watched a novela in years but I'll give this a shot. Honestly I hope BTG remains in its own universe. As far as we know the BTG universe hasn't had SORAS, evil twins, or people coming back from the dead yet. I want it to remain pristine for as long as possible.

BTG: History, Behind the Scenes Articles & Photos
This is the first BTG trailer I have really loved. While I like the "character introduces herself to the viewer" trailers of SB, B&B, I have to admit that they might seem a bit dated. This BTG trailer is more in line with modern TV show promos and gives a great overview of the characters and themes that we can expect. I LOVE the fact that family relationships are highlighted in this trailer, rather than just catfighting and sex scenes. The clips with Vernon and Martin and Anita and Dani ("You are a DUPREE woman") signals that BTG will have an emphasis on family affairs which are the true bread and butter of soap. Also the "you are a DUPREE woman" gave me goosebumps because it is a direct callback to matriarchal families of soaps past eg CRAMER woman, KANE woman, etc. Posters here correctly predicted that Anita will be a matriarch in the Stephanie Forrester mold. Someone who guards her family's interests with a vengeance. I am really impressed by Karla Mosley in these clips. I think BTG will finally give her the opportunity to play the complex, multifaceted character that she couldn't on B&B or GL. Remember KM is the only BTG actor that MVJ has written for in the past. I expect that Dani's material will be uniquely crafted for KM's talents. I also liked the glimpses we got of Marquita Goings as Hayley because Dani needs a rival who will be able to stand up to her toe-to-toe. MG is a Georgia-born southern belle, I think she can bring a lot of authenticity to BTG. I also like what we have seen of DD's Nicole. I think she will be the ice to Dani's fire. We are not at Rauch-level brightness. At least in the quick clip we saw of Vanessa McBride her blonde hair is not reflecting the surface of the sun at the camera lens à la late 90s GL. I remember reading an interview with Paul Taylor about how he struggled to be properly lit in scenes with white actors on ATWT. I agree that the lighting is erring on the side of brightness but I'm willing to wait and see if it is adjusted in the future. Exterior shoots!! I was hoping that BTG would take advantage of Assembly Studios's facades and it looks like they are! I would love to see BTG build a dedicated backlot. A mall like Salem Place or Brookside Parade could work well for the show's setting, but of course that depends on BTG's long-term success. EXTRAS! I love how busy the different locations look. I'm so excited that Fairmont looks like it will be a real community and not a deserted ghost town like the other soaps. I really hope this does well. We badly need a soap opera renaissance.

B&B: "Soaps" Documentary Featuring The Bold & The Beautiful
I saw his Spaceship Earth documentary and it was good. It was about Biosphere 2, where incompetence and bad decision-making turned a once-promising project into a trainwreck. No wonder he is interested in B&B!

Coronation Street: Discussion Thread
Yasmeen had a good run despite the departures of almost all of her family. To be honest, I'm surprised she lasted as long as she did. SK was kind of limited as an actress and the character was inconsistently written during her first several years on the show. Alya is now that last Nazir standing! I am several months behind, but the teens' excessive screen is annoying me. Max is probably the best of the lot, but I won't be sad when he leaves. Because on Corrie there must always be at least one character dying of a terminal illness. It's the rule.

CBS: Soaps In Depth Classic Issues
That reminds me, Lauralee Bell was covered exhaustively by SID back in the day, even when she wasn't on the show. It always puzzled me since Cricket never seemed that popular among fans.

CBS: Soaps In Depth Classic Issues
They did not do a lot of ATWT or GL covers but we will get to some eventually. Even a B&B cover was a rarity compared to the Y&R covers. Eric Braeden must have been a big seller because he was on the cover constantly.

The role of Jess Walton is now being played by Alison Pill.

CBS: Soaps In Depth Classic Issues
I made a new topic for these since they address all of the CBS soaps, with some coverage of ABC and NBC soaps. I am slowly but surely scanning and archiving all of my old issues of CBS Soaps in Depth. You can see the embedded issues below. As you browse them I suggest clicking "one page view." ALL: What are your lost soap media "holy grails" for 2025?
Thank for alerting me to that. I just remembered some more lost soap media. I would like to see more episodes of the Canadian soap Riverdale emerge, especially from 1997. I would love to see the behind-the-scenes videos from SoapCity.com again. Almost 25 years ago that website posted the most remarkable BTS footage of DOOL, GL, and ATWT. I wish I had saved those quicktime videos. They were fascinating!

ALL: What are your lost soap media "holy grails" for 2025?
Off the top of my head: Y&R: Anything of Katherine from the 70s to early 80s. More Derek Thurston scenes and the Felipe storyline! More episodes of Nina and the baby mill with Darlene Conley as Rose DeVille. These musical cues from the 80s-early 90s. OLTL: Apparently Ellen Holly had a collection of early Carla tapes. I am so curious as to where those are now. Anything new of Victor Lord. Gillian Spencer as Viki. GL: The gaslighting of Sara McIntyre. Bill Bauer's alcoholism and infidelity and his 'death' in 1969. I would love to see more of the Fraziers, especially from the period when James Earl Jones played Jim and anything with Martha Frazier. The notorious Stanley Norris storyline! Mainly episodes from the late 60s-early 70s. Somerset: More episodes with my idol, Jingles the dancing clown. DOOL: The Tommy Horton saga, the Susan/David/Julie triangle, episodes with the Andersons and Mary Frann. Early episodes with Maggie.

Coronation Street: Discussion Thread
I am exactly one year behind but able to catch up via STV. Since my firestick thinks it is in Glasgow I am able to watch classic Brookside too! Sad but not surprising news about Charlotte Jordan. Corrie has launched so many ingenues from Sarah Lancashire to Michelle Keegan I expect most actresses want to follow in their footsteps. I hope the door is left open for a possible return. Daisy's presence has opened up so many dimensions of Jenny's character.

Falcon Crest
I am on episode 5. Is there a more on-the-nose soap name name than Lance Cumson? I love the old stone house. Jane Wyman as Angela is evil, but cooly logical and dispassionately evil. This is my favorite quote so far: "If you want to be a part of the land, you have to invest yourself in the land. And Chase has hardly lived here. He's been flying around airplanes and now he's come to earth in the wrong place." Everything se has done so far aligns perfectly with this rationale, however biased it may be. I'm trying to avoid spoilers but I know that Lana Turner and Gina Lollobrigida are going to turn up eventually which will be fun.

Guiding Light Discussion Thread
In a vacuum, this was a good story if you could pretend that it was not happening on GL. Seeing how other soaps have attempted sci fi, I can appreciate that JHB and BE elided the more fantastical elements having Dr. Michael do them off-screen. For example we never saw the clone emerging from a dry-ice filled chamber, with arms outstretched like Frankenstein's monster. Bear in mind, I was a teenager when I was watching this unfold and I haven't rewatched the story except for clips here and there. Subsequent attempts to do fantasy with Reva like San Cristobel and time travel were crap. I love this mainly because a few years earlier NBC tried to lure GL fans to SB with the Lenore Kasdorf promo below. Turnabout is fair play!
