  1. This was from when Sheffer was still cowriting with Passanante. That horrible Adam Hughes story comes from the next regime, with Passanante, Laiman, and Whitesell.
  2. I think the one good thing that came out of the Rose's death storyline was the institutionalization of Will and then his reintroduction as a teen played by Jesse Lee Soffer. In his first few weeks, he got some great scenes with Barbara where he plays her to get out of the mental institution. Soffer is great at playing a smirking sociopathic teen, and it would have been great fun to see him causing chaos all over Oakdale. But then they pulled back from this conception of the character pretty quickly, and once Gwen arrived six months later, nearly all the dark parts of the character got covered over.
  3. After the end of today's episode, I'm thinking that Eva La Rue is not long for this show. Are we headed for some kind of "Who Killed Natalia?" storyline? And will it be dropped after a couple of weeks, like the "Who Killed Jagger?" and "Who Killed Cyrus?" storylines, as everyone in Port Charles could care less, including the cops investigating the murder?
  4. I remember when Chase was one of the bright spots of the young male cast, but now it seems like he spends every scene frowning and sulking about his weak sperm. Can he just go back to being a sweet happy himbo cop? On a more positive note, I think Van Hansis and Laura Wright have amazing onscreen sibling chemistry. His Lucas really does bring out the best side of her Carly.
  5. This might sound harsh, but I think the show killed off the wrong twin. Lily had reached a dead end story-wise, but Rose still had years of story left in her, and Byrne had great chemistry with Scott Holroyd's Paul (who also never should have been fired). I'm sure the Lily and Holden fans would have protested, but in the years I was watching the show (2000-2010), the two of them were just kind of depressing to watch, like an all-too-realistic look at what happens to a pair of high school sweethearts when they start aging and the sexual chemistry fades away.
  6. I think that by her final years on the show, she had slipped into caricature a bit, but I was watching some 80s clips of Amy, and she seems like a well-defined comic supporting character. There are some clips of her interacting with Duke where they bounce off each other perfectly: Back to today's episodes, I'm not a fan of either Sidwell or of Carlo Rota's "Iago in a community theatre production of Othello"-style performance. But I did really enjoy his scenes with Tracy today. Jane Elliott always brings her A-game and brings out the best in her scene partners.
  7. I remember Shell Kepler's character Amy Vining fondly, but she always seemed like a real person, even as she was being used as a plot device to spread gossip around the hospital. These were often fairly comic scenes, but Amy Vining was rarely the object of ridicule like her namesake Amy Driscoll was this week.
  8. English and Communications. Sadly I haven't gotten to teach a course in Television Studies yet, but I have gotten to direct several senior theses on TV. I've got a student right now who's writing on the representation of food and eating on Gilmore Girls. Back to GH, has Nurse Amy always been so annoying and cartoonish? I've been cringing through her scenes this week, especially knowing that she's the show's only representation of a plus-size woman.
  9. He'll probably turn out to be an ecoterrorist who holds Emma and Joss hostage in a few months, but for now I'm enjoying Daniel Goddard's professor character. As a college professor myself, I was on his side immediately when I saw his bemused reaction to Joss. We've all been there with the student who misses the first three weeks of class then confidently tells us that she's sure she can catch up.
  10. The people behind GH's YouTube page apparently don't know what day it is because they posted a poignant 4-minute Alexis/Kristina/Molly clip a few hours before it aired on TV. I put it in the Spoilers thread in case any of you want to watch it now.
  11. The people behind GH's YouTube page apparently don't know what day it is because they posted a nice 4-minute Alexis/Kristina/Molly clip a few hours before it aired on TV:
  12. It might not quite be the "dressing down" you're looking for, but we did just have a week where like 5 or 6 different characters stopped by Carly's hospital room to tell her that she was an idiot to continue dating the man who nearly got her killed from polonium poisoning. So it's not like she's being portrayed as completely unflawed.
  13. Objectively, I think they each have some valid points, but Laura Wright is a much stronger actress than Kaitlyn MacMullen, so I'm on Team Carly.
  14. I had the same thought, along with wondering just how bad Daniel Goddard must have been in his audition to have lost that part to Chris McKenna.
  15. Okay, a break-up in the sense that about 90% of Eva La Rue's scenes have been with Maurice Benard, and it seems like after today, that will no longer be the case.
  16. Just watched yesterday's break-up scenes with Sonny and Natalia. When Sonny said, "Brick ran a background check on you a while ago. How the hell would he miss that you were married to Sidwell?" I would have given anything for Natalia to respond, "Sonny, there's no easy way to tell you this, but Brick... Brick is very stupid."
  17. I just hope that Natalia gets equally upset when Marco officially starts dating Lucas. "Really!? You're a lawyer dating a doctor!? I thought I raised you better than that! You were supposed to be a rockstar sleeping with a different groupie every night!"
  18. I just hope his backing band was called The Morlocks.
  19. You see, I think this is still the writers trying to do damage control on that first impression they gave us of Natalia as a raging homophobe: "Naw, naw, the reason she can't accept her kids' homosexuality isn't because she's homophobic. It's because she's a controlling shrew who wants to micromanage every aspect of their lives. There, isn't that better?"
  20. Man, no wonder Natalia's kids want nothing to do with her! That judgmental reaction to Marco explains so much about what an overbearing momager she is.
  21. If they're looking for someone who can play a nice guy but also demonstrate a bit of my-wife-cheated-on-me-with-my-uncle-and-all-I-got-were-these-3rd-degree-burns edge, then Lucas Adams (Tripp on DOOL) might not be a bad choice.
  22. Works for me! I never bought Jacob Young or Greg Vaughn as Lucky; it just seemed like an Invasion of the Body Snatchers scenario where this distinctive young character actor woke up one day replaced by a bland generic soap hunk. And I wasn't watching the trashy storyline Guza cooked up during JJ's last return. You're right though that he doesn't seem well-integrated into the canvas at this point. JJ's relatively low episode count might be part of the culprit here.
  23. I have to disagree here, as I think JJ is about the only male actor in his age group who I find compelling to watch, aside from Van Hansis' Lucas. Meanwhile, the men on this show who are traditional "leading man material" are boring as [!@#$%^&*]. Dante and Chase were on today, giving me lots of FF material.
  24. I wouldn't go quite that far. And I still think that the details of Joss getting recruited by the WSB and finishing her spy training in 2 weeks are laughable. But I do think this storyline is playing to Eden McCoy's strengths--her ability to portray toughness and tenacity--unlike earlier storylines that concentrated on Joss's love life and cast her in a young ingenue role she never really fit.
  25. Exactly--I totally believe that Sonny would raise a narcissistic little princess like Kristina, and I can totally believe that Alexis would enable her behavior, given her own neuroses and guilt complexes. So Kristina is high on my list of "love to hate" characters on GH, and I find her much more compelling to watch than characters like Brook Lynn or Portia, who I don't hate but don't really care about one way or the other.
