From Day Player to Long-Running Character
Another World had several. Gail Brown (Clarice Hobson 1975-1986, 1989, 1993) was brought on for a few episodes. Harding Lemay liked her uniqueness and developed the role further. Anna Stuart (Donna Love 1983-1986, 1989-1999) auditioned for the role of Felicia. Paul Rauch then cast her for a few episodes as Peter's sister and the rest is history. Petronia Paley (Quinn Harding 1981-1987) was cast in the small role of Steve Frame's secretary. Corrine Jacker then built a significant cast of black characters around her. Brent Collins (Wallingford 1984-1988) was supposed to be killed off after a few episodes but someone fortunately saw the potential and we were blessed to watch his chemistry with Linda Dano and Stephen Schnetzer until his death. Jackee Harry (Lily Mason 1983-1986) was only supposed to appear in a few episodes. Thankfully we got to enjoy her for 3 years.

The soap opera writers' discussion
He did write for GL but I don't believe he was the head writer. Of course JFP did not like him - his writing would be too intelligent for her. I agree that he should have been made head writer of Loving. He quite possibly could have been the one to make it a hit. https://www.welovesoaps.net/2010/03/wisner-washam-interview-part-3-of-3.html We Love Soaps: You also wrote for GUIDING LIGHT at one point. Wisner Washam: When I was canned from ALL MY CHILDREN, I lacked six months having enough time with the Writers Guild to be covered by the health insurance plan. Back in those days you had to work 20 years, count 'em, 20 years, in order to vest. I lacked six months. At that point, Lorraine Broderick was working at GUIDING LIGHT and, bless her heart, got me a job. They hired me but I did not fit in at all. Jill Farren-Phelps was the producer and she didn't like me. At the end of six months I was let go.

Closeted (gay) actors formerly on the soaps
Thanks Donna. I appreciate that. I think we all need to be careful about posting comments on here without verifying the information first. Especially when it is topic like the one in this thread

Closeted (gay) actors formerly on the soaps
It was common knowledge that he was fired or that he was gay? I knew he was gay and died of aids. His last episode as Perry aired in May 1985 and he did not die until November 1992. I’m not sure how dying of aids 7.5 years after leaving AW proves he was fired for being gay. I really think it’s important to make sure you can back statements like these with facts.

Closeted (gay) actors formerly on the soaps
Wesley Eure has stated publicly that he was fired for being gay. I have never read anything about David Oliver being fired at all let alone for being gay. I understood that his contract was up and he chose not to renew it. Where did you read that David Oliver was fired?

The soap opera writers' discussion
Agnes Nixon mentored two of the best All My Children head writers - Wisner Washam and Lorraine Broderick. I always wondered what Wisner could have accomplished on his own on another soap. He could have been the head writer to make Loving a success.

DEADLINE: Days of our Lives Misconduct Investigation Against Co-EP Albert Alarr
Days can fire Albert Alarr and hire the most talented, kind and nurturing EP in the history of daytime but I cannot see the cast and crew ever forgiving Ken Corday for allowing this to happen them.

The 1970s Guiding Light version of the Dobsons would have been incredible at Another World. The 1980s As the World Turns and Santa Barbara version of the Dobsons I am not sure about.

Soaps That Were Good at Comedy?
Another World in the mid 80s - Felicia, Cass, Wallingford, Cecile, Lily, Kathleen. They could move from drama to comedy seamlessly. Also, Tony the Tuna and Dee. General Hospital 80s-90s: The Quartermaine's. Especially when David Lewis was playing Edward. Santa Barbara 1984-88: The Lockridges, Gina & Keith, Julia and Mason - intelligent, quirky humour. After the Dobsons left the humour was dumbed down.

Whatever has happened to this soap opera performer?
Thanks Donna.

Whatever has happened to this soap opera performer?
The people in charge at Loving made many decisions that I will never understand. Why they did not do everything they could to get back Peter Davies (Jim Vochek), Perry Stephens (Jack Forbes) and James Kiberd (Mike Donovan) is at the top of my list.

That is an understatement. https://www.welovesoaps.net/2010/09/coster2.html We Love Soaps: You shared many scenes Beverlee McKinsey. What was that like? Nicolas Coster: Well, I have to admit, it was not the most pleasant experience I ever had. She had a photographic memory, and she was patronizing of people who did not. Let’s leave it at that.
