I am with you Khan. I have always thought a Jamie / Alice romance would have blown up Bay City. It would have given Victoria Wyndham and Jacqueline Courtney years of story.

If I recall from his book didn't he say when he met her at her favourite restaraunt to discuss the issues he internationally sat in the seat Virginia Dwyer usually sat in? I may remember this wrong but it seems like as jerky thing to do. I do agree she appeared to be a diva but what cast doesn't have a few? Harding Lemay did keep the Matthews as a core family. I will give him credit for that. Even bringing back Liz, Susan and Dan during his tenure. However, he had 2 original members of the family fired (Dwyer and Courtney). I am not sure why he killed off John Randolph who was played by the longest member of the cast at the time. I often wondered if Michael Ryan who played John was the friend.

In my opinion the firing of Virginia Dwyer (Mary Matthews) was one of the biggest (and there were many) mistakes ever made by the powers that be at Another World. It would be the equivalent of killing of Alice Horton (DOOL), Bert Bauer (GL) or Nancy Hughes (ATWT). I believe the issue was Harding Lemay's ego not hers. Although she did seem to have her issues. Mr. Lemay was extremely talented but his arrogance was so obvious in every interview of his i have ever read. If he respected the history of the show and wanted to work things out with Virginia Dwyer he could have. He was showing her and the other actors that he was the boss.

I think his character's name was Father Pete and he offered counsel to Brett Gardner (Colleen Dion).

I believe that Joseph Gallison (Bill Matthews) and Carol Roux (Melissa Matthews) left Another World in 1969 on their own accord. I read that Agnes Nixon brought Joesph Gallison to One Life to Live. When Somerset was created TPTB wanted Bill and Melissa & and Sam Lahoma to anchor it. Apparently Joseph wanted to join Somerset but he could not get out of his OLTL contract so they killed Bill off. Then Carol Roux was unhappy and left after 6 months. I wish someone would do an interview with Joseph Gallison about his great soap opera career. I am sure he has amazing stories.

Robert Cenedella killed off Bill Matthews and Lee Randolph. You don't kill off the next generation of the core families. Sigh

I remember reading an interview with Donna Swajeski where she said the Vicky/Jamie/Lisa triangle would have turned out differently if Joanna Going would have renewed her contract.

I didn't mind Vana Tribbey and I think I would have liked her more had she been given time in the role. Corrine did a few things right - created the Morgan's, Thomasina, Cass, Julia Shearer and ALMA RUDDER! She moved Quinn into the forefront and gave Ada and Liz lots to do. But those are the only positive things I can remember about her tenure.

I loved Jennifer Runyon as Sally. I wish they could have enticed her to come back instead of killing Sally off. I thought December 1980 - November 1981was pretty good. L. Virginia Browne refocused the show on the Ewings, Cory's and Matthews. I initally liked the return of Steve Frame and think it may have been a bit more successful had the show properly recast Alice. Both Nancy Frangione and Susan Keith were amazing as Cecile. Laura Malone should have been a leading lady on the show until it's final episode. The conflict between Sandy and Jamie was wonderfully written. Marianne and Jamie had so much potential as a couple. Then Corrine Jacker came along...

I am one of the few who liked Rhonda Lewin as Vicky. I think she should have been given more time. But then we would not have been given the amazing Anne Heche so I guess it worked out. I think Heche came into her own as Marley during the rape storyline. Which was also around the time the stupid wig disappeared.

I am curious as well. He seems to have continued on with many of Agnes' sorties and characters. However, I do think he did longterm damage to the show by killing off Lee Randolph and Bill Matthews. Those roles could have been recast if the actors did not want to continue or return in the case of Joe Gallison. Lee and Bill should have been driving story throughout the seventies and had the next generation of Randolph's and Matthews.

According to The Another World Homepage he last aired on September 20, 1985 and Wikipedia states that he died on June 4, 1986.

Who were the pregnant women Michael, Mac and Russ abandoned? They were unaware that Nick, Sandy and Josie’s mothers were pregnant when their relationships ended.

Was Jason mentioned before his arrival in 1987? I thought that the show wanted Chris Robinson to play one of the Frame brothers who had already appeared by Chris wanted to play a new character so they created Jason.

While I enjoyed Donna Swajeski’s four year run as head writer it was not amazing. It was a relief to have one vision long enough for storylines to actually play out. 1989 and 1991 were two of my favourite years in the 23 years I watched Another World. I loved that she kept Rachel and her children / stepchildren front and centre. She built a new generation of Frames. Donna, Felicia, Jake and Cass had storylines. She created some great characters - Frankie, Lucas, Lorna, Paulina, Ryan, Grant - and couples - Felicia & Lucas, Jenna & Dean, Ryan and Vicky, John & Sharlene. I thought she wrote incredible returns for Kathleen, Carl and Cecile. I’ve watched the episodes from the 25th anniversary and Mac’s death multiple times and they hold up well. On the flip side the show could be quite boring under her pen. She botched the opportunity to rebuild the Matthews family with the return of Russ, the introduction of Olivia and the revelation that Josie was his daughter. Why were the Matthews doomed!!?? Sigh.
