Some are saying that Charlie was axed by Santer, but Kirkwood changed plans to kill him off and will just let him exit happily. Both Charlie and Big Mo could have been dropped since they haven't had anything substantial to do in years and were always supporting characters. With Stacey and Jean gone and Kat and Alfie in the Vic, I guess they wanted a new family to occupy the Slater house in the future, so Charlie had to go, while they're keeping Big Mo on as Kat's only family/support system left.

Today's episode: Janine is insane, but somehow, I kind of feel sorry for her. Ryan has been treating her as a spare part since Stacey allowed him to see Lily. That was a good cliffhanger, but you know they won't die... I had to laugh at the expression on Janine's face when Pat told her that a pair of stockings used to turn Frank on. Speaking of Pat, I was very pleasantly surprised to see her stopping by Carol and Glenda's to comfort Carol. That was funny with them singing along to Neil Diamond. Pat admitted though she and Carol aren't close, she still wants to reach out to her and be there for her. Those two have come a long way in their relationship with one another. Gotta laugh at how Lauren dismissed Jay and then Max slamming him into the wall. I guess Julie stole Stacey's shows because she's poor and wanted to wear them to Ronnie's wedding, as Billy had just asked her to go with him as his date. This will probably be the last time we see that many people in the Slater house again. I wonder what's going to happen with that house when Stacey, Charlie, and Jean leave. Kat and Alfie will be at the Vic, and I'm sure Big Mo will probably move in with them.

EastEnders: Discussion Thread
Ricky has never been an interesting character on his own, his 2002-2004 stint under Louise Berridge proved that. Ricky has always been dominated and overshadowed by stronger women in his life, whether it's Bianca or Sam, or Natalie, or Janine. But to his credit, he is the epitome of the everyday working-class guy, who may not be the sharpest tool in the shed, but loves his family. It might be an unpopular opinion, but I always enjoyed Ricky and Natalie. I always felt like Natalie was the only woman that ever had an ounce of respect for Ricky, which I don't easily buy with Bianca and Sam. In fact, I always loved Natalie/Lucy Speed. But she's also another person who hates Janine for life regarding the Barry situation.

Today's episode: I kind of felt sorry for Janine when she realized that Ryan was lying to her and he went with Stacey to change Lily's birth certificate on Janine's birthday. Though, by the end of the episode and knowing what she's going to do, she's completely nuts. But it's in her nature to react completely over the top and nonsensical to a situation like this. Ryan's ass was nice... The Pat and Janine scenes were very good too. Especially how Pat told her how she shuts out people who do nice things for her, and then when she opened up to Pat at the Argy Bargy. The Bianca and Carol scenes about Carol's attempted suicide were very well-done. It seems like Bianca is becoming more a mother to Carol than Carol is to her I had to laugh at Jay trying it on with Lauren, she couldn't have looked any more disinterested.

Someone mentioned that in a 1990 episode, Pat and Frank were discussing Janine stabbing a girl with a pencil in school... Janine always seemed like a troubled child. Though, it wasn't until Charlie Brooks was cast did they really develop her self-destructive nature. John Yorke and Louise Berridge did a lot of work to establish Janine as a troubled young adult.

Apparently, Peggy finding out about Frank and Pat's affair and exposing his Dear John letter to her about running off with Pat was 10 years ago today... Frank would exit for good a few episodes later, leaving Pat, Peggy, and Janine abandoned (his stints in 2002, 2003, and 2005 weren't on a permanent basis). Funny to note, Frank left Peggy in debt when he left in 2000, which forced her to sell the Vic, which of course ushered in Sharon's 2001 return a few months later. <object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7-W6bW_ISMk?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param'>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7-W6bW_ISMk?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7-W6bW_ISMk?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object>

I'm sorry, every time I try to watch this show again, and I see Cheryl's face and they act as if she's a true pillar of the community, I shut it off immediately. That's how much I hate that character and actress. I don't think I can ever enjoy this show again as long as she's on and forced on viewers. I'll try to watch Carley Stenson's last week as Steph, she deserves as much, but knowing Cheryl will surely factor in heavily in that will take away from it for me.

Today's episode: Who knew Connor was hiding a nice body underneath all those clothes? Carol looks so cut up and distraught. You can understand how she slept with Connor, as he was there to console her as she was about to commit suicide. Lindsey Coulson was amazing once again. Sad to see Alan and especially Blossom going. I just love Blossom. Lauren was downright disrespectful to Dot, with all that loud music and talking back to her. I loved when Max told her again that not everything is about her. But it's good that Lauren got Max to open up about Bradley and how on a day like this, he should be thinking about him. It's also a convenient way for Lauren to find out about Stacey killing Bradley, which I'm sure will happen since Max revealed to her that Bradley didn't do it. Though, I guess since Lauren and Bradley weren't that close, it might take away from some of the impact and this probably should have been done a few months ago, but the part wasn't recast yet. There's something up with Lauren though, she seems to have a really self-destructive personality. They managed to touch on how lonely Dot is and how she loses people in her life in a subtle way, like those sweet little scenes with her and Jim. You know they're setting up Stacey exit when we had that scene when she was walking out of the Slater house with Lily saying that they'd be "happily ever after." Yeah, right. It's been nice seeing Stacey more like her pre-Bradley self these days though. The stuff with Kat, Alfie, Jean, and Stacey was funny with Jean's crap food and Kat's take on her "Sausage Surprise!" line. Tanya definitely still has it for Max. Well, at least they tried to explain why Tanya couldn't bring herself to go to Bradley's funeral.

Yes, Frank's first wife was dead when Frank, Diane, Ricky, and Janine were introduced. Frank will always be the best thing about the Butcher family, I don't care how many times Mark Reid left and came back until his unfortunate death. He's truly one of the best characters EastEnders has created, as well as the ultimate love of Pat's life.

Lindsey Coulson was heartbreaking today. Carol looked physically haunted and gutted. It was sad when she had that mental and psychical breakdown when she was riding in the car with Alan and Blossom and had Alan stop the car so she could get out. Poor Carol was also reaching out for someone and for some comfort finally when she tried to kiss Alan in the kitchen and her blocked her ass and told her he was married. Though, it was a sweet moment when he kissed his hand and then rubbed her cheek. I had to laugh at Billie's gang friends circling the Square as if they're so hardcore and threatening. Really? I don't know anyone who would feel threatened by those people... Anyone notice Tiffany was missing while the entire family was at the wake at Dot and Jim's? I guess they couldn't use Maisie Smith today, which is only a good thing. I really like Blossom comforting Carol. I like Blossom a lot in fact, too bad she's only here for one or two episodes. I was pleasantly surprised to see Janine comforting Liam and Morgan. I was even more surprised to see Janine and Ricky share a moment about their mother and how they felt when she died. It's a little moment, they didn't have to do it, but it was nice and I was happy for it. Janine (to Liam and Morgan): Well, would you go to my funeral? Pat: Everyone will be at your funeral, they'll want to make sure you're still in the coffin. Does anyone else think from the brief glimpse we saw of Alan's new wife that she looks like a slightly younger Carol? Loved seeing Kat and Stacey having fun and clowning around. I think Kat helps bring back some of Stacey's playfulness that was more apparent in her earlier years. They were a nice contrast to the rest of the episode. Oh, and Tracey talked again! I'm intrigued by the Vanessa and Harry stuff. They're only just now starting to peel away the layers in that relationship.

Yeah, Ithink it's either very late 80's or early 90's. That was actually a pretty good interview, despite Eammonn being there. Lindsey's new haircut looks nice too, though I doubt the show would ever let her showcase it. Derek Martin was on Loose Women last week. He seems so much like Charlie Slater, even as he's not in the role here: <object width="480" height="264"><param name="movie" value="http://www.dailymotion.com/swf/video/xf9z3a?additionalInfos=0"></param><param'>http://www.dailymotion.com/swf/video/xf9z3a?additionalInfos=0"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"></param><embed type="application/x-shockwave-flash" src="http://www.dailymotion.com/swf/video/xf9z3a?additionalInfos=0" width="480" height="264" allowfullscreen="true" allowscriptaccess="always"></embed></object><br /><b><a href="http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xf9z3a_derek-martin_people">Derek Martin</a></b><br /><i>Uploaded by <a href="http://www.dailymotion.com/Endersfan">Endersfan</a>. - <a href="http://www.dailymotion.com/us/channel/people">Explore more family videos.</a></i>

Bev would've made it work. Lord knows she sold the hell out of a lot of the corporate jargon on GL as Alexandra. I think a lot of people tend to dismiss just how differently Bev portrayed Iris and Alex. While there were some similarities between the characters (namely the daddy issues and being filthy rich), they were quite different and I see a clear distinction from the way she approached both characters. She could make A LOT of different stuff work.

Today's episode: It was funny and nice seeing Janine with Lily. I loved that Janine ran to Pat for help when she couldn't deal. It seems like Pat is everyone's maternal figure these days, and I like it very much. You can tell Janine didn't think this was going to be a permanent arrangement though, especially when she made it a point to bring Lily back to Stacey. She seemed shock when Ryan told her that Lily would be spending more time with them soon. Seems like Roxy and Alfie are developing a friendship. Roxy seems so lonely especially since they've said that she and Christian haven't been hanging out much since Christian and Syed became official. She's clearly looking for friends, and she and Alfie do have a nice dynamic. I hope it won't be romantic though. It seems like their friendship could be similar to the one Sam and Alfie had when Kim Medcalf was in the role. Billy and Julie work really well together. The stuff with Carol inviting the family was nicely done and then when she went off on them when Bianca noticed what she did to Liam. Carol's outburst was in character, but made her seem like a total cow, but that's the way she deals with her pain and grief. I think the scene between Bianca and Lauren when Lauren didn't want to show up and Bianca had to persuade her to come was really good. I felt sorry for Bianca when Carol told her that Billie wouldn't have died if Bianca didn't drag him back.

Thanks for posting that Carl! That was a really unpleasant experience to talk about. Maureen has always seemed like such a classy woman, and you can sense that in her acting as well. Holly could be a neurotic and self-centered mess sometimes, but Maureen bought so much humanity and sympathy to the role that you couldn't help but love her. How and why she's never won an Emmy is beyond me.

EastEnders: Discussion Thread
Today's episode: I felt sorry for Jim when Carol started yelling him and called him a racist. John Bardon is so old and fragile, it was hard to watch, though a realistic reaction from someone like Carol. Dot and Jim were not close to Billie, so obviously there was always going to be more pics of Sonia, Robbie, and Bradley there. Did Carol forget that Jim basically took care of two of her children when she was off the show with her beloved Billie? I did however hear there's a pic somewhere in Jim's livingroom of Billie, but I guess it was taken out. I know Carol is grieving and her reactions are in character, but I don't feel sorry for her when she's raging at an old man. I loved when Dot told her ass to leave. It's a credit to Lindsey Coulson though that she made those scenes so understandable and you felt Carol's pain, even as Carol was acting out in really hateful ways. In the hands of a lesser actress, those scenes wouldn't have come off as competent. At least they came up with excuses for why Robbie and Sonia wouldn't attend Billie's funeral. Sometimes I think if it were any of her other children that had died, Carol would not be reacting so strongly... Morgan is one disgusting kid. A crisps with ketchup sandwich? Yuck. I can't help but feel the kid playing Morgan is brain dead most of the time, he's just not animated enough. Though, I wouldn't want someone as animated as the actress who plays Tiffany... Liam's ass needs to be matured more. There's no reason why a 13 year old needs to be playing with his 4 year old younger brother all the time. I did feel sorry for him when Carol smacked him and he bled, though. I wonder how Bianca, Ricky, and Pat will find out about this and what their reactions will be. At least Carol felt guilty about it immediately after it happened. Kat and Janine's banter was hilarious. I'm glad Stacey and Ryan were ultimately able to work out a way for Ryan to see Lily peacefully. Though, you know Janine is going to do her best to screw that sh!t up. Kat is already telling Stacey to move in on him, she knows Janine won't cope well with this arrangement. The poker game was OK and a nice way to get characters who wouldn't normally interact together. I thought they worked in the dialogue about the spending cuts wisely. It's believable that old men like Charlie and Patrick would talk about stuff like that. I have to say, though he's not a big character and hasn't had much material in years, I'm kind of going to miss Charlie just "being there." Probably has to do with my affection for the Slater era of the show. Derek Martin isn't the greatest actor, but he's believable as the old man who loved his girls and just wants some peace in his life.
