  1. In other words, typical Tyler Perry fare.

  6. Well, even though she had some really shoddy writing for years on the show, I am going to miss Zainab/Nina Wadia. I'm glad they gave her a Julia's Theme for her last episode. Too bad the actual exit felt rushed and unplanned. Special kudos to Nina Wadia who always gave it her all, even when the material wrote the character into a wall. I hope she returns one day as they didn't kill Zainab off. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xPHd1ieCnks
  7. Honestly, I don't think Cissy even knew who the real Whitney was for a good part of the last 15-20 years of Whitney's life. We'll never get it, but that's why I think Robyn's "testimony" is the missing piece in this Whitney blitz. By all accounts, that was the defining relationship in Whitney's adult life (before their supposed falling out), regardless if it was anything sexual or not.
  8. I thought 1996 was when they almost got canceled? Then again, it seemed like there was a cancellation notice every year starting in the mid-90's. 1994 was such a chaotic year, but also very boring and not really memorable. Sadly, things never really got better...
  9. I will say this, at least Robyn hasn't been whoring her relationship with Whitney to the media or divulging private information about her to make a quick buck. I can't say the same about the Houston family (Cissy included).
  10. I'm not fluent in Spanish, but this song always reminds of the time I spent in Spain in 2000, I love it: <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/wO6iQMZpEdg" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
  11. Honestly, I think that could apply to the show as a whole, not just the first season (which despite its flaws, I think is judged way too harshly). The show never really had really amazing sitcom writing, it was so wildly erratic, even during the seasons it was most interesting (2-5).
  12. There was probably more competition after season 1, but being sandwiched between The Cosby Show and Cheers was a pretty sweet deal. Some sources report a tie between The Cosby Show and Roseanne during the 1988-1989 and 1989-1990 season for the #1 position, so its peak positions could very well be a slot higher for those seasons. Coincidentally, they were all shows produced by Carsey-Wener, the only time I believe a production company has ever had the top 3 shows on television.
  13. I hated Patti's OTT acting. Diahann was fab per usual though.
  14. Nick@Nite did try to air the show a few years back, the ratings weren't very good, so it was shelved after a few weeks.
  15. Most of the characters became very one-dimensional by the last few seasons, IMO.
  16. Does Carsey-Werner (who owns the show and is still an independent studio) even produce anything anymore?
  17. Who is complex in the Mitchell family? Hell, they aren't even a family anymore. The only time they worked was in the early 90's when it was just Phill and Grant (with Sm through in and out). I am looking forward to a new family and hope its executed well, it could be just what the show needs.

  20. Cher's most successful foray into disco (at David Geffen's suggestion, I believe): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EQD8oKObzi4
  21. She worked her ass off for that Oscar and overcame so much Hollywood bullsh!t to get it. It was so deserved, and I'm glad she got it.
  22. Her version of The Shoop Shoop Song went to #1 in the UK, but only reached #33 in the US. I love her version too. Cher herself has said that she always wanted to be an actress, not a singer, and that she's technically better at acting than singing.
  23. Oddly, I think Cher's one of those few singers who transitioned to acting, and was better [for me] as an actress than singer. I loved her "movie star era" in the 80s/very early 90s. I can still watch Mask, Moonstruck, Silkwood, and Mermaids a million times over.
  24. I can take or leave her, but I really preferred 80's pop-rock Cher over the generic dance stuff she's done from Believe on. But, still, the Junior Vasquex remix of One By One remains her best song her! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zGhpqbf1I5M
