The first color episode was Mon Feb 20 1967. I don't think anything special occurred.
The 'outdoor' wedding was for David and Ellen June 1966.
Just goes to show that my memory isn't what it used to be. Thank you.

I know it has been said that P&G did not archive their soaps properly till 1979. I know UCLA has a some pre-1979 episodes in their collection, but they do not have the equipment to play them on. I wish they would reach out to someone like Obsolete Video Services on youtube to get those digitized and make them available to view. A lot of archives are turning their stuff over to him to preserve.
I would be blown away to see a late 60's color episode surface.
I vaguely remember someone (Saynotoursoap?) saying the first color episode was a big deal indeed, that they used a cyclorama to depict an outdoor wedding or something like that.

On the chance that the new 1983 episode is from Thursday, Aug. 4, I'm going to mention how funny/awesome it is that so much of that particular day's soaps can now be seen, even partially.
ABC: Loving, Ryan's Hope, All My Children, General Hospital, Edge of Night
NBC: Search for Tomorrow, Another World
CBS: As the World Turns

There is a promo for knots landing in the atwt episode and that episode of knots aired on January 27, 1983 unless its a rerun for that week.
8 hours ago, DRW50 said:I thought the same but figured it was a repeat.
The CBS Saturday Movie promo places this as also airing during the week of Aug. 1, 1983. Notice that the CBS Thursday promo is still using the "Great Moments" graphics from 1982-83.

Do you or anyone know who the actress with Palmer at the start of the second episode is? I briefly thought it was Harley Jane Kozak but she was on GL by this point.
It's actually Marcia Strassman.
I'm amused at how this is apparently Tony's first episode (or close to it). Less than five months later, he'll be left at the altar by Jenny.
Also, for the record (I hope I'm not annoying people with this), the episode aired Thursday, Aug. 4, 1983. (Which I forgot until now was also the day of the live Search for Tomorrow episode.)

@dc11786 A note to say how much I love your posts in the Classic GH Thread. I spent last night playing catch-up. I had to find my last place I left off, I had accidentally cleared it, but because I save copies of @depboy' s summaries, I was able to get there.
Anyway, @dc11786 I added these:
Robert Fontaine
GENERAL HOSPITAL Francisco "Frankie" Greco 1990- February 1991
Jack Axelrod
GENERAL HOSPITAL Victor Jerome 1987 - 89; 1990 (Re-created Flashback)
which you tagged me for, and I apologize for the late appreciation.
Your list of Monty's waves on page 374 of the Classic GH thread will be a big help once I finish typing up the current profiles. Thank you for posting that!
@depboy a huge thanks for all those summaries, and I'm sure at some point we can track some of those GH actor's dates with recasts, etc.
I'm so happy to be a help!

Mary Stuart's final words ("They were wonderful years") always tear me up. You literally could see her heart breaking. She wasn't ready to let go.
Absolutely. At the same time, it's perfect/fitting that she got to be the one to bring the curtain down on a never again era/mentality/je ne sais quoi of soaps.

They moved to Nashville in 1983. While attending a cul-de-sac party in 1997, Ginger revealed she and Kenny were divorced because of his infidelity.
ETA: Whoa, I forgot about Ginger being a lesbian. Clearly a shoutout to one of the year's big TV events, "The Puppy Episode."

Yes, it is. I want to give her the benefit of the doubt, but I can't. Sandy isn't coming across as at the very start of her grieving, when nothing's sinking in. She's coming across as mildly inconvenienced by everything.

I had to look up TVTV.
Pittsburgh Post Gazette -- "Here's a program that aims at a satirical glimpse of the typical American family, so-called, and how they react when they're transformed from TV watchers to TV participants."
IMDB -- "Sketch comedy and news parody from the counterculture TV unit."
Ecclectic cast and crew, as was the norm for most Groove Tube/SCTV variants in that era.

IMO, Rita was a basically decent person, who never set out to hurt anyone (at least, not intentionally), but she just couldn't tell the truth...about anything. If she had told the truth at least once in her life, imagine how much happier she would've been, lol!
A while back, we had the thread on essential characters for soaps. This type should be high on that list. The one who acts in service to his or her "reasons," even if honesty would make much, much more sense and be fulfilling.

It's ironic that just as AW truly embraced glitz and glamour with Felicia they phased out the servants (and Vivien probably would have not even returned without Lemay's brief comeback). Felicia with a maid might have been entertaining.
DOOL did an Auntie Mame inspired plot in 1989, with Anjelica's nanny, J.J. Bagwood, in the role of Agnes Gooch. Maybe that would have worked better with Felicia and a maid or assistant character?

Until today, I'd never seen the clip of Jason confessing to accidentally killing Laurel when he was aiming for Michael. His last line, "You made me do it. All of you. I was just the one who picked up the gun and shot the wrong one," is blood-curdling.
The clip comes from a Marcy Walker fan, so the weight is on Liza and Tad dealing with their culpability as members of the media. That's still relevant, too. At the same time, I wonder if any viewers felt like AMC was protesting too hard in an effort to differentiate itself from '90s trash TV, specifically Jenny Jones.

Thanks for the tag, @DRW50.
The Dec. 3, 1981, upload, plus this clip, reveals a funny little quirk of the time. "Enid-vision," a.k.a. a sepia tint, for her flashbacks.
Later on, they went for a slightly more conventional approach, having a border around them.
