In a one episode a real estate agent stops by to try to talk them into selling and gets turned away with a door (those familiar doors of the Ewing home) slam by Bobby. One of the kids is listening and asks their Dad about it and what's the big deal. Bobby then tells them the story of the house and how it was a gift from their great grandmother (Miss Ellie) to their grandparents (Gary & Val) and how he and his sister grew up there. Now they are another generation of Ewing's growing up there. He also mentions it was the first real home that his Mom (Val) had ever had.
As Bobby's talking, we slowly pan over to family photos and mementos, things like a portrait of Gary & Val, one of Lillimae, a framed dust jacket of Capricorn Crude, a photo of Betsy, and most significantly, photos of Bobby taking his kids on their first walks into the ocean.
I originally imagined this being how the first episode would end, but that would signify that the new show wouldn't be allowed to exist on its own, that it would always come back to the old show.

With thanks to Jason 47's Daytime Royalty summaries ...
Sister Mary Moira was introduced Friday, June 6, 1997. She was a recurring character for nearly a year (specifically through Thursday, April 23, 1998), as opposed to the regular characters of Kristen and Susan.
Thomas made his first appearance Friday, Dec. 19, 1997, wrapping Wednesday, Dec. 24.
Penelope made her debut Thursday, Feb. 12, 1998, wrapping Thursday, April 16. (She'd already been killed off Friday, Feb. 20.)
Also, for extra context, Kristen was introduced Monday, May 17, 1993, and Susan was introduced Monday, Nov. 4, 1996. Eileen's last day as Kristen and Susan (the first time around, that is) was Friday, April 24, 1998.

That's a great idea. Home & Away is currently doing a storyline where a man whose parents split up due to the father cheating and leaving for another woman ends up cheating and leaving his wife for another woman, which estranges him from his sister, who never forgave their father. It's very strong soap that impacts generations of characters.
Anything that would get John Pleshette back would be a bonus.
It's yet another of those stories I might have to hang onto for my own hypothetical soap. Although I am curious if Richard would be in a good place in 2024, or if he's still blowing his (last) "chances of a lifetime."

I think a reboot would have worked mostly if they just kept the original regulars to guest appearances. Maybe bring in Mack's daughter Annie (recast), or bring back Claudia (recast), or bring back Mack's adopted son Jason.
Daniel Avery, having walked out on his wife and family (like father, like son), returns to California. He picks up the pieces at and with the restaurant that was Daniel's during his infancy.

And I happened to be at a public swimming pool on the afternoon of their wedding, and people at the pool had found a way to listen to Guiding Light on the radio! Yes, the radio. I'm not kidding! No idea how they worked that out, but people at the pool were huddled around a radio listening to Kelly and Morgan's wedding.

Apparently, it is possible with the use of a TV radio, something I had never heard of until recently.

I consider her a good friend. And, I know simply tons of people who have nothing BUT nice things to say about her. Well, they also say things about her talent, as an actress, a writer, a producer, etc. I guess I could sum up by saying they say nice things & excellent things, not just "nice".
I'm glad to hear that. I guess I was just a little surprised that what would seem to have been a puff piece would take such a turn.

Actress Brittany Wells (Barbara Witz) is a former roommate of Crystal Chappell, who plays Dr. Carly Manning on "Days of Our Lives."
"She was one of my best friends," says Witz, emphasizing the past tense. Although the two parted ways, Witz has fond memories of Chappell, the days before Carly became a star on "Days." She describes Chappell as "very engaging, compassionate. She liked an ugly dog." The roommates landed parts on "Days" about the same time, but Chappell's was destined to become a major role. Witz thinks success spoiled Chappell.
Or gave her an "attitude." "She's very beautiful but "people hated her maybe they were jealous of her." Because they didn't like her haughty attitude, cast and crew members took to playing pranks on Chappell, who sometimes found her costumes split, sleeves glued together or got the wrong script. Ironically, Chappell didn't get along well with the actor w ho originally played Bo Brady, her on-screen love interest. She hit it off however, with Michael Sabatino, the character Lawrence Alamain whom Carly loathed.
Chappell now has a serious off-screen relationship with Sabatino. Witz said he's "a real sweetheart"
With the possible exception of Michael Sabatino, does anyone have anything nice to say about Crystal Chappell?

Now days if a guy from younger generation grows one, it's supposed to be an ironic joke. Look how many douchebag comedians ( Will Ferrell, Jason Sudeikis etc...) when trying to do a off the wall character they will grow a stache and thinks it screams " look at me, I'm funny because I grew a Dad/Pornstache. 🙄
Intentionally bad, sleazy, or cheesy hair is one of my least favorite comedy tropes. I need to revisit American Hustle, but I recall the running gag about Bradley Cooper's perm, culminating with him at home in curlers.

@Franko Thanks for pointing that out. I wondered how long it lasted. I much prefer it to the squiggly corner lines - it adds more character. I appreciate the effort they made compared to most soaps, which often just threw them onscreen.
I was actually thinking about it in those terms, how it would have been interesting if characters had their own hues for their own flashbacks.

I know why they eventually had to age/recast Joey with Nathan Fillion, but I'm liking the smartass-comic relief quality Chris McKenna had in 1991. I dunno, maybe I'm a softy for kid actors.
