It feels like it was just a steady paycheck for John and Suzanne because their storylines were painfully boring, aside from the 'Mickey presumed dead' arc in 1983.

JER in particular seemed to have no interest in Maggie, even though she's proven since that she really will commit, no matter how awful the material.
I apologize for repeating myself, but I remember visiting the old Beth's Days Page circa 1999-2000 and reading fan comments that wondered what exactly was the point of keeping Maggie around. People were tired of her being the one to declare such and such was evil and that (insert couple here) were going to have a happy ending. I think the conclusion was that Maggie was the backup talk-to for when Alice would no longer be available. I guess the pecking order would have been Alice, then Maggie, then Caroline.

How eerie. We were just talking about him, and now Michael Cole's dead.

Renewing Wayne's contract in 94 would have probably meant a salary boost on top of what may have been a generous contract to start with. Days probably thought they had a supercouple pairing with John/Marlena and no guarantee they could find a suitable match for Roman (if they even wanted to).
So easier budget and story wise to drop Wayne.
It's also reasonable to assume Kristian Alfonso's return didn't come cheaply.

CBS is airing The Price Is Right reruns during the interim period after The Talk ends and Beyond the Gates returns. I can understand why, but it's kind of a bummer that we wouldn't get CBS' version of "A Daytime to Remember."

You don't need to do that lol. These episodes are over 30 years old! Just go for it.
Okay, well, I'm hoping that we're finally done with Max & Lee Ann, since she's got to be getting mighty close to conceiving Duke with Kevin.
I also loved how Dorian's scenes were, "I should get laid." Then she has a fantasy (to "Enter Sandman"!) about Jason*, only to have cold water splashed on her privates when she realizes he's Wanda's nephew.
*This appears to be where the photo of Dorian and Jason on a motorcycle comes from.
Jason was all over the place in this episode, from the Banner loading dock, to Wanda's Place, to Carlo and Stephanie's. And without much time in between. Boo, OLTL! You're better than that.

And I also teared up and sang along when Liz and everybody sang “Always.” I wish that song was featured more on Days and used in scenes for Horton couples like Shawn/Belle, Chad/Abigail, Will/Sonny, etc. Is it that expensive to use? It’s almost 100 years old.
"Always" is in the public domain, so the show could (and should) use it any time they want.

Rewatching some classic Mystery Science Theater 3000 and I'd forgotten they threaded early '60s episodes of GH into several of their shows whenever a movie would run short. The stuff with Jessie and Phil really is amusingly dour and grim and makes good joke fodder. I wouldn't hate it if they did it again with very old soaps, but I imagine the rights situation is far trickier today.
"Oh, sweet cake, you're the only one who understands me."
The riffs are great, but I'm actually genuinely compelled by Ken/Cynthia/Phil/Jessie. In particular, the moment where Jessie and Cynthia know all too well what's going to happen when Phil & Cynthia are alone. Cynthia tries to stop it from happening, while Jessie's resigned herself to the inevitable.

@Franko Thanks for sharing those old clips. Another of those wondrous soap moments where a character (Cord) who never had a hint of musical talent before or since kills it.
I'm a musicals fan, so I greatly enjoyed it, not to mention the moment in the 9/4/91 episode where Babs was dishing on the Tyne Daly production of Gypsy. And what a fine bit of kismet (sorry, couldn't resist), since the Audra McDonald production's in previews right now.

I do think they were putting pieces together before then though, as Megan is already talking about being in poor health in late August at Andy and Hunter's wedding.
Oh, definitely. It's been fun observing the transition.
I've said it before, but I have a wishlist of late 1991 things I'm curious to see: Andrew and Blair's arrivals, the domestic violence storyline, JDP's return as Max, and the start of Dorian & Jason.

As the story goes, Cyndi Lauper came up with the title "Time After Time" while scrolling through TV Guide (the movie was making its network premiere). Could Glenn Frey* have had a similar experience with "The Heat Is On"? I'm certain the Dynasty ad dates from late 1983-early 1984.
*Or rather, the song's actual writers, Harold Faltermeyer & Keith Forsey.

These ones have been on YouTube for a long time, so it should be okay to share them.
Credits start at 10:00. They could also be from the Wednesday, Sept. 4 episode, it's just that the GH summaries make it sound like the Sept. 5 episode was being teased.
This one I'm absolutely certain is from Friday, Sept. 13, followed by Monday, Sept. 16. Credits start at 2:00.

We have one of the last pieces of the great 1991 end credits puzzle.
The credits from what appears to be the Thursday, Sept. 5 episode are on YouTube. I'm going off the teasers for that day's GH and the next day's Good Morning America. Craig Carlson is still credited as headwriter, and Linda Gottlieb isn't credited yet.
Luna's first scene is also on YouTube, and thanks to the Life Goes On teaser, we can place the OLTL episode as airing on Friday, Sept. 13. Linda Gottlieb now has a credit, and so does Michael Malone.

My god. I'm weeping as if seeing for the first time, even though I saw a lot of their scenes back then.
The way she summed up the Delia/Ryans dynamic in not just the words but the emotional dynamic. So real!
That's why I feel like it's not just Maeve calling out Delia. She's also calling out the family and herself for being so enabling.

If my memory serves, didn't Soap Opera Weekly have an Emmy dream ballot which included Nicholas Walker getting nominated for his work on SB? I remember his performance getting a lot of acclaim at the time. I didn't see his work on SB so have no opinion.
I'm assuming Walker would be up for the supporting actor category in 1992-93, with competition including Thom Christopher as Mortimer on OLTL and the winner, Gerald Anthony as Marco on GH.
