The NYT quickly pushed this out, but every journalist on Twitter is mocking its opening lede: As most journos are pointing out, the Russians are only hacking Clinton, so of course it's aimed at disrupting her and not Trump.

And there's this. The FBI continues to investigate Manafort. The Trump organization may have had a server designated for a Russian bank. Hillary pounces:

Incidentally: The new polling today also shows no change in Hillary's lead since Comeygate. Wow, even Glenn Beck knows a good pile-on when he sees it. And now, someone is back:

Trump has bled but he never recovers, not fully. That's why Hillary remains well ahead in most polling. That's why the latest polling today has her way up, and that's why most of America (again, according to national polling) sees him as a nutjob who can't be allowed to be president - listening to Ann Coulter is insane. Pretending he can be normalized is a fantasy that's been dead for months, as is the insane idea that somehow Sanders would've done better. The numbers speak for themselves. Hopefully people will retire this [!@#$%^&*] when Hillary wins with a commanding lead, but I'm sure I'll hear 'oh, but she could've done better.' And BTW, people had heard of Obama well before 2008.

Comey criticism is the noise now, though. That is the point. It is not going to be close.

E.J. Dionne and Eric Holder go in on Comey. This became Comeygate in record time - before Friday was out, actually. The heat is off Hillary. There's also a WSJ piece in the mix - which I won't link to, because it's paywalled and because the writer is clearly part of the WSJ's long-standing right-ward tilt and has obviously been fed information by the agents involved - which, without the slant on the piece, alleges that multiple agents inside the FBI wanted to continue to pursue the Clintons, were rebuffed by their superiors and DOJ, and instead went outside and began pleading their case to sympathetic media, like the aforementioned WSJ writer.

Politico, of all places, roasts Comey. He has become the story, not Clinton.

Oh, that's just Chris Cillizza - who has been roasted for that article by half the Internet. This thing is not going anywhere.

Through magic and dreams! They're just trying to keep the horse race alive another minus-two weeks.

You know it's ridiculous when even glorified Trump surrogate Mark Halperin is on TV saying, "with all due respect to James Comey, really?"

On the one hand, Comey was apparently legally bound to put this information in writing. On the other, it's 11 days before the election, he is a Republican known for lecturing Clinton in public, and the GOP is desperate. I think it'll die faster than I thought now that the full details are known, but either way it wasn't going to change trajectory.

According to NBC, the emails in question are not significant to Hillary or the Clintons and unlikely to be significant. According to the NYT, they came from Anthony Weiner's e-devices. Hence, unrelated investigation.

Pete Williams is saying that the latest FBI data apparently has nothing to do with HRC or Clinton emails.

The Politics Thread
Uh, no, he's not. His note is largely a matter of procedure and form based on the recent leaks - which Comey, a Republican, has attempted to spin for the media along with Jason Chaffetz as 'a new investigation.' You can see the media already beginning to (very grudgingly) walk that back per the FBI.

Ugh, Comey. It won't matter to the election much, but it'll be all the media will talk about for a week because they're desperate to try and preserve the last shreds of the horse race. Unless Trump has another skeleton waiting to pop out (he surely does, but it's a question of timing). And now:

Right now they're trying to save the House. That I think they have a pretty good shot at, but I also believe we can take the House. Meanwhile: Uncle Joe rides again?

The Walking Dead: Discussion Thread
I am waist-deep in two big work deadlines and I still haven't had the stomach or morale to sit through last week's episode, but hey, at least Steven Yeun already has a new job*: (* - Steven Yeun can also be heard on Netflix's new Voltron animated series.)

Star Trek returns with streaming series
Bryan Fuller steps back from Discovery. He's still writing the first two episodes, has plotted the whole first season and the network claims he will remain involved, but two of his lieutenants and proteges will apparently take over the showrunning. According to various different sources, the 'creative differences' with CBS involved scheduling (he already insisted they push the show to May to give it more time to be cast and polished) and budget. I think it's a huge mistake, as Fuller has said for years he would drop everything else to come back and do Trek and I think he very much wants to. I'd love to believe he'll pull a David Lynch and return to the show, but as they've already lined up a hack (Akiva Goldsman) to become part of the mix I doubt it. Sad. This was a dream for many a Trekkie, myself included.

I see we're back again but I'm betting the double-space problem still isn't fixed. Well, maybe. Anyway, here's some of what you may have missed: Besides one outlier poll the press is relentlessly flogging in the hopes of saving the horse race til election day, Hillary is way ahead, as well as tying Trump up in brutal polls from right-leaning Quinnipiac. Meanwhile, Trump suggests we 'just cancel the election and give it to Trump.' Oh, and Russia got hacked. Finally: The Democrats go back into Florida, hoping to finish Rubio.

Twin Peaks
Mark Frost did a Q&A with io9 and all but confirmed a second book is incoming post-Season 3. He also continued to dance around the many floating questions re: some of the Secret History's continuity errors, many of which now seem intentional - particularly as regards the Annie character, whose fate he says will be dealt with on the new show next year.
