  1. I literally finished reading an article about that. First time in nearly 100 years that the paper endorsed a Democrat.

Jane, you were the one who said it's hard to go back to being friends with people are voting for Trump, right? I was thinking about that guy at work and what he said and the job he does every single day with those kids. We're not friends, but we don't hate each other either. We just talk here and there like regular colleagues, I guess. Anyway, I ran into him today, and after we exchanged the typical, "How's it going? Happy Friday," he continued on his way, and I just glared at him with so much disgust. I will never look at him the same way, and I kind of feel like I'm being dramatic, but I don't know.

I'm still kind of not over the one woman at work going with the whole they're both flawed approach... but at least she doesn't seem to support Trump.

The people in my life that are supporting are irrevocably damaged to me forever more.  In my view, it's not only a betrayal to me personally, but to our entire democracy.  I simply can't pretend like it's ok and I won't.

  2. This is the only place online I can even talk about politics (I don't talk about it offline either, really, other than to a few people I'm close to), but I'm so disgusted by this whole election and by the realization that Trump can say and do anything and voters and the press will just support him more - I'm not even sure if I'm going to keep following it. I've always said Hillary will eke out a win or Trump will have a solid win, and that seems more likely by the day. I'm terrified for the country and the world, but I'm at the point where I'm starting to think ignoring it all (beyond voting on election day) is the best way to go. If Hillary wins it will be in spite of so much that has been built to favor Trump, in spite of a public that rewards bigotry and apathy at every turn and in spite of a media that openly talks about how giddy they are that Trump is on the way to the White House. At the moment it's a steep climb, and I don't know if I can see her making it.

I don't think either will have a solid win. My only consolation at this point is that the Clintons have been up against the wall before and they both work so much better when that happens.

But I am tuning out also. I can't bear listening to the coddling and embracing of Trump at his press conference where he blames Hillary Clinton for starting the movement and then takes credit for proving Obama legit. BEcause that's all I expect to see yet the press will fawn all over him without seeing the damage all this is going to our country. Other than real Americans(like the Kahn's, the Flint Pastor, real people) does anyone in the press, the media, in our political hierarchy give a damn about this country. It seems know and to think someone like Donald Trump has convinced people he's a representative of the little man, sickens me. But I am now convinced that there is a whole lot more racism and bigotry in this country than ever before. Unless we get some leaders who will stand up and say it, I pray for the future of America.

I'm trying to have faith in our voters but it gets harder every day. People get so beaten down by this it quells their enthusiasm.

It is tough. Part of me wonders if this is it. If this is how America goes out and if so, what comes next?

I have friends I've known for years who are voting for Trump and I just don't know how I can stay friends with them. What do you do when your friend joins the Nazis?

It's troubling.  We have neighbors that for years have voted Republican and proudly wear "Duck Dynasty" tshirts and hats.  They've always been supportive of me and my husband, even having the neighborhood over for a couple of our anniversaries.  I've managed to look beyond it for that reason, but I've often felt that their support for right wing extremists is a betrayal.

I can no longer tolerate it.  I've distanced myself from them over the course of the last several months because of their support for Trump.  I simply can't, and won't, be friends or associate with people that support such a vile human being.  And sadly, this includes family members.

I am genuinely scared of what may come in November.

  3. Obama on the campaign trail is everything. One of the reasons I was so eager for Bernie to go the hell away was because as long as he stayed in the race Obama had to sit on the sidelines. When it comes to campaigning Obama is everything Hillary isn't. That's not a slam against her. Unlike a lot of people I genuinely like Hillary Clinton and I'm enthusiastic about voting FOR her and not just against Trump and it has nothing to do with her gender but Obama like Bill C just has the kind of charisma that you can't fake and you can't learn. The shame for me is I'm actually old enough to remember what Hillary was like before she became so guarded and cautious. The "deplorables" comment was like seeing original recipe Hillary again for just a brief moment.

    Yes to all of this!

I've been nervous about this election for awhile, but more nervous now, as Trump's chances continue to increase. I also hate hearing how they are both terrible candidates because I don't think that at all. Of course there are things with Hillary that make me go "Hmmm," but isn't that par for the course with politicians? I think the media has really a done a number on her, and I myself, who supported her in 2008, stopped up until recently, because the media convinced me she should never be President. Then, I spent hours doing my own research when I had time off from work and was like, "Wait a minute..."

HRC is lucky to have POTUS and FLOTUS (Friday) in her corner. I think they are both great people, Obama has been an effective president, Michelle an awesome First Lady, and they are also really good at campaigning. I was reading something yesterday. Wish I had the link saved, but it was how that HRC isn't a good candidate but she could be a good president. Basically, she isn't great on the campaign trail, but that won't affect her ability to effectively run the country.

I hope the media is all over Trump's health now and the "right to privacy" he is allowed but not HRC.

I don't think so either.  I read something the other day from New York Magazine that put it very well:

"The average undecided voter is getting snippets of news from television personalities like Lauer, who are failing to convey the fact that the election pits a normal politician with normal political failings against an ignorant, bigoted, pathologically dishonest authoritarian."

It's sickening.  The term "the lesser of two evils" may have been appropriate at some point in modern history, but this election it is most definitely not.  I still can't get my head around how any sane, fairly open-minded person could look at these two candidates and be undecided.

  4. Yea, the MSM are doing a number on HRC and the health "conspiracy".  It's concerning me that if they keep harping on this non-story, it could sway some voters.

My partner never follows politics as closely as I do, and he came home this afternoon talking about how unhealthy she is.  So he would fall into an average, run-of-mill voter, IMO.  It's scary.

  5. I watched the CBS Evening News tonight.  Of course, they brought up the deplorable remark and showed Trump's "outrage".  However, they then cut to all the horrible things he's said since declaring his candidacy.  They called his ass out.  Good to see that.

Really, Trump denouncing her remark takes balls.  He obviously has no room to talk.

I would have rather her not said it at all, but it is what it is.

Frankly I am glad she said it. Finally people are talking about Trump's nastiness where they have all been tap dancing around it.

I see your point and that is a positive result.  It comes down to the way she phrased it, and @Juliajms earlier said it perfectly.  The trait (racism, sexism, etc) is deplorable, not necessarily the person.  On the flip side, you would think that at some point in the life of someone that was taught to hate based on race, sex or orientation has an epiphany and realizes their false beliefs.

  7. She could have got the exact same point across without calling a large portion of the people she hopes to lead deplorable. Calling 50% of Trump's supporters various isims was off the wall.  White supremacists scare the hell out of me because I spend several days a week at the Jewish Community Center with my baby. Several people were shot at the JCC in Kansas City (4 hours from me) just a couple of years ago.

That doesn't change the fact that I do feel sorry for some of them. Many of them were raised in poverty, hate and ignorance since childhood. They never stood a chance. The person who is leading us should get that.  She can call their ideas deplorable. She can call any actions they take deplorable. Beyond that I want the person who is leading us to bring us together, not throw insults. I get enough of that Trump.  This white suburban woman was not impressed.  The worst part was the way she laughed after she said. Ugh.

But whatever. I've always know that she's an elitist and there is literally nothing she could do or say that would lose my vote. She could have been running a silk road on that damn private server and I'd still vote for her.

ICAM.  I just saw on the news that she's apologized, although I wish she never said it in the first place.  The name calling should stay with the Trumpublicans.

Some right wing PAC will roll this out in an ad very soon.  She'll never be able to escape it.

  8. Everyone should watch all of this. She was on fire and when you have well-known Republican pundits calling it probably the best speech of her political career - in which she ends it by shaming the GOP establishment - that says something.

Trump, of course, is already melting down over it. Again.

That was a fantastic speech.  All things that desperately needed to be said, but more importantly was the way she said them.  I like HRC, but she tends to come across rehearsed.  Overly rehearsed.

Not here, though.  It was heartfelt, comfortable, genuine.  I loved it and agree that it is the single most impressive speech that she's ever made.

  9. Oh, and: He just started talking about fearing the election would be 'rigged' against him at a rally today.

Some of my "friends" on FB started saying this same thing over the weekend.  I'm basically keeping them around until the election and then I'll boot em.

I still can't fathom why anyone would support this man after all he's done and said.  Among them evangelicals.  Isn't Trump the antithesis of everything Christians strive to be and profess to admire?!?  It makes no sense to me.

  10. Good point.

There's no way that this race is as close as the polls keep saying it is.  Now apparently Trump has pulled ahead of Clinton in FL.  In a way, I hope they keep reporting it being close so everyone feels compelled to vote come November.

  11. DD :o

Honestly, I had no idea his supporters were saying such things.  I purposely limit my interactions on social media to FB, so I may not have a complete picture of what's happening unless a major media outlet picks up on it.  I'm genuinely troubled by what you've posted and will definitely do some reading up on his campaign.

The man has some great ideas and his platform on major issues is appealing to me.  But IA this behavior is a deal breaker...

  12.

If these reports are factual and not exaggerations.

Sanders should take a stronger stance to distance himself and his campaign from these "supporters".  However, I don't see how the statement released from him is "awful"?  Apart from appearing to be lackadaisical with regard to a few troublemakers, exactly how is it awful?

  13.

Bernie and Trump supporters are not anywhere near similar IMO.  Sure, Bernie's have gotten quite a bit more vocal and (arguably, angry).  But they are not flaming racists and intolerant assholes.  It is a little frustrating watching Bernie win primaries and caucuses only to still be trailing Hillary because of the DNC's silly "Super Delegates".  WTF does that even mean?  How does one become one and what makes their support any more important than any other delegate?  Like it or not, there is a substantial, sustained populous movement for Mr. Sanders.  Does that make me like Hillary any less?  No.  It makes me like the DNC less lol.

  14.

The media has given up any pretense of appearing unbiased when it comes to Hillary.

I like Hillary.  Always have.  But there something...insincere about the way she comes across when talking about the issues.  She's just SO rehearsed.  I get the feeling that everything that comes outta her mouth has been coached to the nth degree.

I think she just wants this so much that she's really afraid of putting a step out of place so she overdoes the prep. I'm really curious about who she really is behind closed doors. I've heard so many conflicting stories.

I remember years ago when she cried in public and some people acted like that was a terrible faux pas, so I'm sure she's holding herself on a tight leash.

See, I LOVED when she had that moment of vulnerability.  Loved it.  And I'm with you, I'd like to see the unfiltered Hillary.

She really suffers by comparison when her opponent is such an effortless, charismatic speaker like Obama in 2008 and to a lesser extent, Sanders this year.  Say what you will about his supporters (full disclosure I pulled the handle for him), the Bern gives a damn good speech.

I wish some of our right wing posters were still around.  It would be interesting to get their take on the republican race and potential contested convention.  Sigh.

  16.

It's still amazing to me how Trump is the GOP front-runner.  The media's take on his "being an outsider" is not the only driving factor here, as he is getting the majority of votes in the primaries.

Have evangelicals embraced him?  Why?  How?  I just can't get my head around it to save my life.

I can say, if Trump was running on the Democratic ticket, I would be voting "R"s down the ballot.

  17.

There's definitely some truth to that.  I don't think that they've given him a free pass by any stretch, but they have provided a lot of free press to the man.

That being said, the media are not casting votes for The Donald and they haven't convinced me to vote for him.

    Election Day in Florida...

  18.

Take this with a grain of salt, but looks like there's a new poll showing Rubio now in 3rd place in my great state of FL.    Let me tell y'all, the man and his PAC have been running ads out the ass for the last two weeks.  Every news program leads with where he has gone begging for votes.  He's desperate.  Rubio has done exactly NOTHING for FL since they elected him a few years ago.  NOTHING.  And now he comes sniffing around for votes.  Typical.

As much as I can't stand Trump, I hope he wins handily tomorrow.

I'm really torn between Bernie and HRC.  I always thought that I'd be voting for her, but Bernie has really captured my attention and imagination.  We'll see what happens tomorrow afternoon, cuz this will be a game time decision for me for sure.
