1. Here in the great state of Florida, Tallahassee is owned by Republicans. It's so sad that they are still unable to pass their agenda, including:

Guns in schools and on college campuses, allowing adoption agencies the right to turn away gay couples, limiting which bathrooms transgenders can use. blink.png

If there's good news in all of this, it's that the Senate is getting more moderate due to the lack of a Democratic voice.

It's a pretty good read, not too long:

  2. I call bs on these "mistakes". Don't get me wrong, I think they're both horrible. But Rand is playing to the lowest of the Republican base with these, and they will likely get a chuckle out of it, IMO.

It's the theory that any press is good press. They meant to do that [!@#$%^&*].

  3. Exactly, but isn't where all this nonsense eventually leads? What if it offends one religion to serve another? Where does it end? What if some religions are offended by serving women? This way lies madness as far as I can see.

It opens up a Pandora's box, Julia. It's genuinely scary. You're absolutely right, there's a big question mark on how far it goes.

All they care about is they get a legal right to hate. They know if it doesn't happen they will be seen as persecuted martyrs. If it does happen, they have free reign to spread poison. As we see here, the media is already selling the "backlash of the backlash" narrative.

And all the GOP Presidential zombies are falling into line, other than Jeb Bush, who continues to be all over the place and continues to have zero chance of winning anything but a Bush family horseshoe throwing contest.

I have to laugh at the prize hatemongers lashing out at companies like Wal Mart. Good luck getting the "heartland" to abandon that place.

There's no way these people abandon Walmart. I'm always amazed at how many jacked up beater cars there are in the parking lot with bumper stickers supporting republicans.

At this point, I can't help but wonder why the right doesn't see this as discrimination. There's no question, IMO, that any thoughtful person would come to this conclusion. I believe that they are holding on to appear "strong" or "resolute". The right eats that [!@#$%^&*] up like a big ass ham on Easter sunday. Obviously, there are very impressionable minds that are witnessing this train wreck of a policy. It has to be stated, clearly and unequivocally that ones religion does give one the right to discriminate and hate those that don't fit neatly in your little religious box.

This is, for me, profoundly sad. Profoundly. I have a brother that supports this law over my right for equality. Why? Allegiance to a political party? Blind faith in a book? Both? It's truly heartbreaking and hopeless.

<Nadias theme> no more drama </Nadia's theme>. I probably went a lil overboard there. Sorry yall.

  4. I read another article on this guy. He's divorced. When asked how that reconciles with his religion, he said he's still "working through it". Ugh.

I often wonder, if the paradigm were shifted and it were fundamentalist Christians being denied services, how would they react?

  5. Hopefully the fallout from Indiana will give other governors pause before signing off on such idiotic legislation. A "religious freedom bill" is nothing but legalizing discrimination, straight from the horse's mouth (so to speak):

The perils Hutchinson faces were made clear Tuesday morning when Pence insisted he'd "fix" Indiana's law to make sure it doesn't allow businesses like Christian florists or bakers to turn away gay and lesbian customers -- which the bill's conservative supporters had said was one of their chief goals.

Wouldn't it be interesting to see what would happen if a service provider somewhere decided not to do business with a religious conservative because they didn't agree with thier "lifestyle"?

  6. It would bother me too. Id rather a person be honest about how they feel about me instead of being a 2 face person.

Hey Suds, they appeared to have genuinely supported the idea of gay marriage. I believe that me and my bf have made a difference on our lil street. I've heard many times "you're not at all what I thought you'd be like" and we're so "conservative" (NOT). I think they expected 2 gay guys to out partyin all the time and dressing like girls, or acting like girls. Sigh. So I'm not sure if they're two faced on gay marriage. I believe they support it, just not on the ballot!

They work to create a form of government that treats you like a second-class citizen. Actions speak louder than words.

    That's exactly my thoughts, marce.

I don't know. So many people seem to vote their pocketbooks over their social conscience. Gay marriage is one issue, what if they agreed with the Republicans on everything except that one thing? I'm strongly pro choice, but what if your neighbors well and truly believe that an embryo is a baby? Then voting for the Republicans might have to do with that and nothing to do with gay marriage or their empathy for you.

Good points, Julia. They are most definitely "pro life" (God, I hate that term. Like pro choice supporters are anti-life?). Anyway, they are fiscally conservative as well. BUT, they are middle class folks. The right aren't going to do anything for them. And sadly, they watch Fox and take everything broadcast on that channel as gospel.

I still can't help but feel betrayed. In my mind, equality trumps whatever small financial gain you THINK might gain by voting for republicans.

  7. Is anyone else getting tired of this he said/she said bullshit between The White House and Captial Hill? It's exhausting.

My neighbors, with whom my partner and I have lived next to for 10 years, are die hard republicans. The entire time gay marriage was illegal in Florida, they empathized with us (outwardly), but come Election Day, checked every box that had an "R" beside it. Am I right to consider that a betrayal? My hubby says no. But it bothers me. It's starting to make me look at them differently.

  8. Except he has now. He walked into Alexandria and within one day he decided to take over if they don't run things to his satisfaction. Rick isn't the Governor yet but he's damn close. He's been getting closer and closer to the Governor with each episode. Honestly I'm not sure if they are still good people or not. How many bad things do you have to do before you lose the right to call yourself good? (I think that's one of the big themes of this season.)

As for Father Pee Pants, I predict he's going to go full on crazy. Like Lizzie did.

Glenn did everything he could to save Deanna's son. AFTER he was left for dead by the other chicken [!@#$%^&*] Alexandria resident. I'd say that's a pretty damn good deed. Abraham fought like hell to save the girl at the construction site. Another good one, IMO. (Not that I give a [!@#$%^&*] about Abraham, but still...)

There have been no outward signs of aggression or hostility from Daryl, Maggie, Carl, Mishcone and some of the others. The instigator here is primarily Carol. She has Rick's ear, but he seems more interested in kicking the abusive guy's ass, not taking over the town. He didn't ask to be the sherriff, he was appointed that job.

Gabriel is sickening. Obviously, he'd be long gone if not for Rick's group. And I think you're onto something - the man is losing it.

It seems to me that the residents of Alexandria are incredibly incompetent at survival (as witnessed on Monday's show) or are very good at it (Aaron is a great shot), with no in-betweens. I hope/wish that we'll get some backstory of how this settlement came to be and how this group of people ended up together.

  9. ^^^ I see what you're saying about the drama. But it seems that everyday there is a story of someone pissed off at the Pres because of something he's proposed or signed.

It has been drama free IRT his personal life. But as Pres? Not so much.

That's not to say I don't support the man 100%. I love me some Obama. I just wish that every. single. thing. Wasn't beaten up so much by Congress and the media.

  10. Does the right purposefully think of outrageous things to say just to make headlines? I hope they don't seriously believe this bullshit.

And yet there are intelligent, seemingly critical thinkers, friends of mine, that vote for this party? It amazes me.

  11. rolleyes.gif Really?

What in the hell does all this mean, anyway? Nothing. The right purposefully uses these ambiguous phrases to make headlines. It's all smoke and mirrors as far as I'm concerned.

IMHO, President Obama "loves America" (whatever the hell that means) a lot more than the warmonger G.W.
