  1. Hayley was the character that came off as the most nuanced to me in the trailers. I don’t think she’s necessarily just the bad girl who intentionally went out of her way to lure Bill away from his marriage (and why is it always primarily the other woman’s fault when a man cheats and leaves his family anyway?) and I wouldn’t doubt Bill and Dani had cracks in their marriage way before her for various other reasons we’ll find out. I think Hayley also almost seems like our gateway character into this community - there seems to be a secondary arc for her trying to assimilate into a community that already decided she was bad news because of the affair and she has to prove that she belongs there. Marquita Goings is so damn stunning, too:
  2. Contract or recurring roles? Looks like Cady’s been hinting at it on her IG recently as well: https://www.instagram.com/share/BAJTO0AljD She also randomly posted a flashback to her Emmy win for ATWT (her first stint there being the best acting work of her whole daytime career, IMO): https://www.instagram.com/share/_tfbsbG_u
  3. Sounds like recurring roles, but are they on contract, @Errol?
  4. This still feels surreal, even as we inch closer to the show debuting! Major props to CBS, the NAACP, P&G, Sheila Ducksworth, and Michele Val Jean for doing the unthinkable and making this a reality in these unusual times in a genre that has been written off for years, and doing it with primarily people of colour - a demographic that has been ignored and taken for granted by both daytime and the wider entertainment industry since inception.
  5. I wonder if they’ll be appearances on CBS Mornings as well next week. I know both Tunie and Duplaix will be hitting the NYC promotional circuit heavy next week, leading up to the Paley Center event on Thursday. Would be nice to have one of them guest on The Daily Show as well next week, but CBS definitely deserves kudos for all they’ve done to promote the show.
  6. Now P&G is doing some promotion from their social channels. Granted this ET clip wasn’t fact checked - since, no, ATWT was not on the air for 72 years… https://www.instagram.com/reel/DGF0vAmtQom/?utm_source=ig_web_button_share_sheet
  7. 1995 was a great year, and I'll always have a soft spot for Natalie/Lucy Speed.
  8. As awful as the other soaps are, BTG needs that halo built-in audience that comes from them to get off to a solid start and base with viewers.
  9. Since CBS owns BTG, they don’t have to sign multi-year or yearly licensing deals with the studios like they do for the other two soaps. The downside to this being that they can probably cancel the show at anytime if they’re not happy with its performance.
  10. The Disney situation was unusual, these disputes typically only last a few days. I’m hopeful it won’t impact the launch of BTG. And if it does, hopefully the show launches with a solid head start on Paramount+ to compensate for it.
  11. The Aisha Tyler era was my favourite era for The Talk. Not so much because of her, but the show seemed to fall apart not long after her departure from a chemistry standpoint between the hosts.
  12. Wow, CBS isn’t playing when it comes to putting their best foot forward with the launch of this serial.
  13. I think BTG is aiming for a slightly different demographic vs. GH anyway. They want to capitalize on CBS Daytime’s historical success with Black viewers, and I’m sure they hope the halo of viewership from the Bell soaps will carry over as well as catching viewers who don’t normally watch soaps or haven’t in a while.
  14. As the network that already had the most soaps on its lineup (albeit just 2), it always made sense that CBS would add a third (as unlikely as it appeared) vs. ABC or especially NBC. BTG would have to be a gigantic success for other networks to want to think about adding another daytime soap. That’s not pressure BTG needs on it’s shoulders as it gets off the ground - let’s just appreciate this moment for what it is as no one expected that we would be here just a year ago. I do think a streamer should toy with the idea of a daily soap (even if they have to film in cheaper locations), as I think that could be a possibility if the economics are properly worked through.
  15. I wonder what the nationwide clearance is for the show across all the CBS affiliates. New soaps have typically struggled with that - B&B, in fact, went years without being scheduled by some affiliates and it took a vigorous campaign by the Bell’s to help make that happen. The plus side is that this is the first daily soap debuting during the streaming era. Hoping that’s strong to compensate for unpredictable linear TV ratings.
  16. Conspiracy theories aside, the Chiefs played horribly (especially that entire first half). That wasn’t their finest hour and the right team won based on how the game was played.
  17. I'd take it over any of sh!t openings we've had since Valentini came on.
  18. They should use the abundance of HBCUs in Georgia to recruit new and up and coming talent being the scenes as well. Michele and Bob are in their 70’s, and no one is clamoring for people like Carlivati or Bibel to take over the reigns when they step aside… I hope Michele uses this opportunity as a chance to foster new/young black writers who can carry on her legacy.
  19. How many times has the Queen Vic been on fire again?
  20. CBS posted a YouTube-version of this video as well:
  21. There is a sense that both Sheila Ducksworth and Michele Val Jean consider this their life's work. It will certainly be their professional legacies. Sheila makes it very clear that MVJ is the driving creative force, and that Guza works as her Co-HW, helping her write the thrusts/long-story. I'd love a new interview with those two talking about their initial vision for the show and characters. Guza (rightfully) seems to be taking a very "silent partner" approach when it comes to publicity/press, but it would be good to understand how they work together and what MVJ thinks he brings to this project centered around people of colour (never a strong suit for Guza).
  22. I think it’s possible he may have been confused and thought Sheila Ducksworth was also a co-creator given her role in getting this pushed through and on the air. But who is fact-checking this stuff before it prints?
