Because there are a lot of stupid people out there. My Facebook feed tells me that. Some of the people I follow post ridiculous hoaxes and urban myths like it's God's truth all the time. These are by and large educated people, there are just no critical thinking skills present. Some people don't understand what evidence is or have fact checking skills. That's at least part of why we are where we are right now politically. BTW, I'm not saying making one mistake makes people stupid, we all make them. I'm just saying when people are constantly falling for the latest scare tactic meme and sharing it without a second thought, it's disheartening. There is so much disinformation out there. Clinton, Pelosi, the Obama's, George Soros are all victims of it.

Thanks for the warning. I have prime too and I've thought about Firestick. so this is good to know. Amazon can be a little bit sneaky at times, even though I like them overall.

I can't believe these f*ckers are going to march in D.C. I just heard about it, which is one of the negatives about not having live TV any more, not that I can watch news with my kids around anyway. I hope no one gets killed this time.

Maybe they're right, but the term white nationalism has always hit my fear button. It doesn't make me think of patriotism it makes me think of militant zealots and ethnic cleansing.

Damn it. I like this guy, but this is not who we need, imo. I want a return to stability.

Yes. Why not take some time to learn and grow in her position before exposing herself to the larger fray. Maybe she thought this was her moment and wanted to capitalize on that.

^ I don't think that's cynical at all. It's the clear reality.

A huge ICE raid happened in Nebraska. 133 people were taken and several people were arrested for a range of crimes involving exploiting immigrants. At the very least, we need a guest worker program so that employers can't take advantage of people. https://www.omaha.com/news/courts/raids-rattle-o-neill-workers-detained-as-feds-target-alleged/article_df881c1a-e399-523e-86b2-36bf614b3351.html

The corruption is endless. I think it's really bizarre that Washington hasn't changed their name. Some of the announcers won't even say it on TV. I can't say who, I've just noticed it when my husband forces me to watch that god awful game (no offense to those who like it). I just think it's crazy that as a nation we spend billions on a game that is giving people brain injury to a man.

I'll never fall for it again. The Republicans have lost all credibility after that ridiculous tax cut for the wealthy. Their greed is endless.

The Politics Thread
Of course there is an answer for how to pay for it. Taxing capital gains at a higher rate seems like the most obvious. How about raising taxes on the wealthy instead of lowering them? If you're all for people who work, you certainly can't object to that. Why should Warren Buffet pay a smaller percentage of his income than the McDonald's worker that serves up his morning breakfast? How about a penny tax on every stock transaction. We have high frequency trading that allows the wealthy to cash in on the market in ways the average person can't, seems wise to tax that. We have record amounts of income inequality and it's only going to get worse as long as we tax wealth at such low rates. You may want to pay a higher percentage in taxes than people on their way to having a trillion dollars in wealth, but I do not. Also, I didn't say Bernie's voters are invalid. Bernie lost the primary. He doesn't lead the party. We'll see what the candidate in 2020 comes up with. That said, I'd certainly take Bernie's plan over letting poor people be excluded from healthcare again. The ER is a very expensive and dangerous way to get primary care.

^ Who cares what Bernie is proposing? He's not even a Democrat. There are plenty of Democrats who are proposing medicare for all. There is no perfect heath care system. A system doesn't have to be perfect to be more fair than the one we have right now. By the way we do ration healthcare. One of the reason our system is so fast is that there are so many people excluded from it. That's a kind of rationing.

Non-Hollywood Sexual Assault & Sexual Harassment
^ Those last two posts are both horrific in different ways. How many servers have been grabbed so casually over the years? You can just tell that entitled jackass is used to getting away with it. It makes me sick to think how many of them are out there. I hope they find that second guy. He needs to see the inside of a jail cell. I hope we find out what happens.

I agree. There are multiple allegations. If you want to be loyal then just keep your mouth shut, instead of trying to deflect. I can understand why she didn't care that he was having consensual sex with groupies. That seems very different to me than screwing over someone's career because they don't want to screw you.

Angelica McDaniel. I can only hope that more women come forward in the next few weeks, since it takes double digits to be taken seriously it sometimes seems. From that Vanity Fair article: They met in the ’90s. At the time, Moonves was the president and chief officer of CBS Television. Chen hosted “CBS This Morning” and “Big Brother,” two programs that he oversaw. They married in 2004, at a private ceremony in Mexico. She was 34, and he was 55, coming off a difficult divorce. The date of their wedding had to be pushed back, because Moonves was still married to his estranged wife, Nancy, during their engagement. That year, Nancy told the New York Daily News that she didn’t watch CBS. “I don’t want to see [Chen],” she said. “It’s not healthy for me or my kids.” She added: “I felt everybody knew what was going on. And everybody knew. But me.”

I'm with you. Hearing and reading the details changes nothing for those of us who already oppose it, but don't have much power to change it. As to facing up to what's being done in our name, the problem is some people are ok with these separations and detentions. They really see it as a justifiable response to crossing the border without documentation.
