  1. No thanks. He's the one who knowingly used his credibility to lie to us about Iraq having WMDs.
  2. ^ I think there is something to be said for exercising your vote even when you know it doesn't count. For one thing, you just never truly know. More that that, I think it helps a person mentally to know they did all they can to stand up to what's happening. This is the kind of thing that makes me want to give Deb Fischer the metaphorical finger, even though I believe we're stuck with her.
  3. ^ I cannot wait to vote. It's probably futile where I live, but I don't care. Hell, I walked to the polls (not far) three days after giving birth to vote in a local primary election, I'm so pissed at these people.
  4. Yeah, this is much like Ivanka and Melania. They know who they are married to. They are ok with it.
  5. That was truly a crazy thing to say wasn't it? But it doesn't matter. You can say things like this now with very little push back.
  6. What a tool. Looking back I'm amazed that Roy Moore lost.
  7. Good point. People do idolize the rich in this country, which is unfortunate to say the least. If anything we need fewer wealthy white men in office, but I have a feeling we'll be getting a lot more of them over the next couple of years. At least in terms of the positions 45 has control over. That's how I've always felt about Clarence Thomas as well. They are two of a kind in my book. And young men are taking it as further confirmation that you can do whatever you want to women and still rise to the highest positions in the land. It's really disturbing, but that's our reality.
  8. You're right. I've seen people say that very thing, but it's still stunning to me. I didn't know that plain spoken meant being unable to convey a cohesive thought through spoken language, but that seems to be something people find appealing. At heart I think Mussolini was right and there is a sizable part of the population that doesn't really want to be free. I find that idea kind of terrifying, but if people just wanted to undo Obama they could have easily voted for any other Republican candidate. On top of that, most of them were racist and sexist on some level, but people liked Trump's authoritarian style.
  9. This was an interesting article, although you don't need to be an expert to see the obvious signs. I'll admit I don't think we'll descend as far as Nazi Germany (we're already too diverse I hope), but it's seems obvious to me that democratic norms are in jeopardy. What kills me is that we are being led down the path by Trump who is a complete, bumbling idiot. He can't even give a decent speech (note that nonsense at the UN). If America had to fall for some dictator, why couldn't it be someone like Mussolini? At least that man could put a thought together and was incredibly articulate. He knew how to give a speech. I can understand how people fell for that particular monster, but Trump? Talk about selling yourself and your nation short. It's embarrassing.
  10. This is so true, imo. ETA: I don't mean the part about hell. I can't speak to that. Just what's been normalized.
  11. I have to respectfully disagree with that. When the person at the top is as corrupt as Trump it seeps through the nation. The white supremacy didn't start with Trump, but he has emboldened them. Plus Trump has made hundreds of nominations to the lower courts and may very well get another SCOTUS nomination. He is far more dangerous and powerful than a single member of the court can ever be. Oh, and he still has the codes to the nukes. There is always that.
  12. I wish I could see it that way. Still, I think RR is correct and all we can do is keep fighting.
  13. I've wondered this exact same thing, except they aren't going to die, right? I'm not even sure it will hurt them. I would say it's a show of power by the patriarchy. That's really the only thing that makes sense to me. There are probably many men in power worried that what they did many years ago might resurface. Also, there are a lot of women who have built their lives around conservative values. It's their way of life and how they were socialized even if some of us can't relate or have cast those values off ourselves. I'm glad she did the right thing for the sake of these women.
  14. I didn't know about that. 300 people massacred, what a nightmare. Also, amazing to me that people on the right try to stoke up fears of a race riot, but many of aren't taught about the ones that already happened because it doesn't fit the narrative.
  15. I think POC in general might be able to turn the tide. I'm just saying putting it only on women won't work because the numbers aren't there. WOC are about 22% of the population and they face voter repression. We need everyone. We need men of color. We need the 47% (or there about) of white women who voted against Trump. We need the decent white men who voted against him. We even need the idiots who fell for him the last time and have come to their sense. There have to be a few. I'm not taking anything away from the WOC and in particular the black women who saw through this SOB in greater numbers then the rest of us. I'm just saying that every single decent human being in this country has to get off their asses and vote, volunteer and donate to the best of their abilities or we are sunk.
  16. It's not though. Everyone of us has to do everything in our power to help save ourselves before it's too late. Assuming it's not already. You can see how once someone like Trump gets control the corruption just multiplies. Who knows if we can ever root it out.
  17. Is it me or does Ben Sasse never actually say he's voting no? Maybe this article was clickbait or it's late and I'm confused.
  18. Seriously, no thanks to any of it.
  19. He never stops being awful
  20. Plus, I saw this after my original post. For the love of God...one of the top stories on CNN right now is Trump dodging taxes.
  21. She owes the IRS for back taxes though and that is unusual in a candidate. At the same time, I have really hard time caring about this kind of thing given the financial shenanigans 45 has engaged in. Of course, that's the danger of corruption at the top, all these smaller issues seem like chicken feed.
  22. It's such a disgusting and petty thing to do, but that's the theme of this administration.
  23. It's pretty hard to get to the truth. There is a hell of a lot of lying going on in the press by both sides, that much I'm sure of. There is a lot of cherry picking done in the reporting that goes on, I'm sure of that too. I think you really have to do a lot of reading and make up your own mind about the situation, if you really care enough to do that. To me it seems like one of the world's truly unsolvable issues.
