  1. Yep. Perkel played the role when Lesley Ann was a minor character. It's possible Potter left and Kobe started work at the end of 1982, but her credit in the closing crawl didn't appear until around February 1983. There used to be GL episodes on YouTube from February 1983 where the credits showed the shift from Potter to Kobe.
  2. Do you have any recollection of the original Lesley Ann? She was then played by Jacqueline Perkel, who is a colleague of mine at Rutgers University. As I recollect, Geraldine Court was dumped in February 1983 when Allen Potter was still at the helm. Jennifer Cooke's Morgan was used during the Kobe period with the Browne/Palumbo and Culliton/Culliton/Tomlin regimes. She was placed into Rick and Phillip's orbit, which was odd. Cooke was written out in May 1983 just around the time the Long/Culliton regime started. Kathleen Cullen was dropped as Amanda in August 1983.
  3. Lynn Clark was amazing as Lily Light. The character had so much potential, yet was scrapped so quickly. I think she on for only four months. I tell you: the Dobsons were the 1980s version of Brad Bell, introducing characters, quickly losing interest in them, and then dropping them. There was so much potential with the Duvall/Bassett family in 1985, including the divine Grace Zabriskie as Theda. Yet they were all gone within a few months, with the exception of Mary and we all know what happened to her in the summer of 1986. The Dobsons' lack of commitment to any character who wasn't a Capwell drove me away from Santa Barbara and back to Guiding Light.
  4. I checked in on the thread and he, indeed, forgot that Mary had portrayed Meta on Guiding Light. The way it was written, it was hard to tell if he forgot/didn't know she had been in Springfield, or was objecting to her inclusion on the list. He also mentioned that his first writing gig was Search for Tomorrow.
  5. I'm confused by two things. First, why did Twitter hide one person's answer and mark it as "potentially sensitive content"? It featured shots of Charita Bauer, Don Stewart, Mart Hulswit, Jerry ver Dorn, Mary Stuart, Michael Zaslow, and Maureen Garrett. Second, what was up with Mulchaey's tweet questioning Mary Stuart's inclusion in the collage of photos? He also commented that it should be Peter Simon's Ed as opposed to Hulswit's Ed.
  6. Who is his most missed character? I scanned the thread, but don't see his response.
  7. Oh, man! Those Friday night get-togethers were so much fun! It was so entertaining listening to them talking about their soaps. It's what got me hooked on soaps. Only my Aunt Ida remains of that group and she's hitting 90 next month! I wish I had kept that book. It was some kind of almanac about TV in 1979. I remember the chapter on soaps had photos of the Ryans from Ryan's Hope with John Blazo pictured as Pat Ryan. It went into detail about what a flop the 90-minute experiment had been, but that NBC was seriously toying with expanding Days. There were some really great soap-related books back then. I remember one about writing for soap operas (I want to say that the author was BK Perlman). I came across one amazing book from the 1960s in Alexander Library at Rutgers University back around 1984-1985. It had a detailed story outline for Love of Life from around 1968 where Vanessa's sister Meg was slated to be reintroduced.
  8. I tend to doubt that. The reactions today are similar to the reactions people had online well before streaming series were even a thing. Plus, the reactions today are very similar to the reactions I saw back in 1979-1980 in the soap magazines. Just from my own personal experience, my mom, my aunt, and their friends would get together every Friday night for coffee and Entemann's cakes, to gossip, and to talk about their soaps. They were unanimous about a few things: Rita Stapleton was a tramp, Roger Thorpe was scoundrel, and they all hated the 90-minute Another World because it was so slow. In fact, a number of them bailed on the show and moved over to One Life to Life. I wish I still had the book and don't recall the title, but I had a book that looked at television in 1979 and it addressed the 90-minute AW experiment and what a flop it was. Despite the experiment not being successful, at the time NBC was seriously toying with expanding Days of our Lives to 90 minutes as well.
  9. Annie and Rick had been married. They divorced sometime in 1995 after Abby had been introduced. There was also another guy from her past, Jake, who never showed up in Springfield. At one point, there were rumors that Kin Shriner was slated to play the role of Jake.
  10. Great idea! Damon was the one who did the Coster interview and he would be perfect. My husband and I went with Damon and Roger, the other WLS guy, to see drag queen Dina Martina back in 2010. They were both very charming and fun guys. World Turns had just ended and they told us All My Children and One Life to Live were likely to be cancelled soon. Damon left WLS sometime after that. He’s now a major PrEP and HIV prevention educator.
  11. It doesn’t give the source of her 1987 interview, but here’s where I saw her talking about leaving SB: http://pierin26santabarbara.blogspot.com/2012/08/where-are-they-now-ava-lazar.html?m=1
  12. In an interview, Lazar said she left because of the extreme pressure, schedule, and the way Santana was written.
  13. Just announced: Mart Hulswit and Fran Myers are slated to be on The Locher Room on Thursday, May 13th at 3 p.m. EST / 12 p.m. PST. How cool!!
  14. Bruhner was around when Phil MacGregor was playing Rick. It was a weird period when Rick and Phillip started hanging around with Morgan. Long arrived in May just as Morgan left town and Michael O’Leary arrived as the new Rick. Was just watching the Thanksgiving 1983 episode and couldn’t stand O’Leary’s antics.
  15. Bruhner was before Pam Long. He arrived around March so it was either during the L. Virginia Browne/Gene Palumbo stint or when the Cullitons and Gary Tomlin were interim head writers.
  16. I think Bert was off-screen in early 1984, not 1983. She was very prominent throughout 1983. She was in the story involving the older German hospital patient (Martin). Didn't Annabelle live with her after she was introduced? Bert was part of the story involving Annabelle and Eli, which led to Bill Bauer's murder. They even hinted at a possible romance between Bert and HB. I think Bert went off-screen after the story involving the mystery of Annie Sims ended. She returned in May 1984 when Tony and Annabelle were married.
  17. I watched a bit on my iPhone. The scenes in the restaurant featured palm trees in the background and that got me thinking. Wasn’t The Young Marrieds set in a suburb of the then unnamed town on General Hospital? So at this point GH couldn’t have been set in New York but rather a locale with palm trees like Florida or California. Makes me wonder when TPTB at GH decided GH was set in New York.
  18. She kinda resembles Laurie Walters from Eight is Enough.
  19. It was Jeff Ryder who said he was thinking about bringing back Mike and Hope in an article that appeared shortly after Bert died. I posted the article upthread a bit. Within a month, Ryder was replaced by Mary Ryan Munisteri as head writer. Sheri Anderson and Joseph Manetta brought in teenaged Alan-Michael in June 1987 along with the horrid Lacey Bauer and reintroduced Rick in time for the 50th anniversary. Long returned a few months later as head writer.
  20. And Clarke was apparently the second Lesley Ann. Video surfaced showing another actress playing the role: Jacqueline Perkel. She now works at the same college where I'm employed.
  21. I think Bunim was EP of Santa Barbara from 1984 to 1986. Was the other actress that Alan wants to get Carolyn Ann Clarke who played Lesley Ann? I know they mentioned Carolyn Ann, Kathleen Cullen, and Marsha Clark during the reunion. I really enjoyed the reunion, especially getting to see Harley again. She's always been one of my favorites.
  22. Actually it was Ellen Dolan who appeared as Maureen in those scenes. Ellen Parker assumed the role shortly after Bert died. I'm still watching the latest Locher Room reunion, but Harley Jane Kozak is still pissed that Guiding Light taped the day of Charita's funeral. And thanks to Dolan, we know now it was a spiteful Gail Kobe who killed off Hillary Bauer when Marsha Clark exercised her right to go out to California for pilot season.
  23. I’m not sure Mac was being cruel. I recall that scene and felt it worked because Mac just blurted out something about his firstborn in his excitement over Amanda’s birth. Once he made that remark, Iris pushed for the truth.
  24. It was very challenging. I teach two college courses in addition to having a full-time job. So I had something like 55 papers to read and grade while my vision was blurred. Somehow I got the work done.
  25. I received my first Pfizer shot on April 9. Unless previous vaccinations, I never even felt the needle enter my arm. Starting that Friday evening and ver the weekend, I had some mild side effects: headache, fatigue, muscle aches. But within a few hours of vaccination I had another side effect: distorted vision, which is apparently a rare side effect. For nearly a week after the poke, I had blurred vision. It was the worst last Monday when I literally had to hold my MacBook about 6 inches from my face so that I could read an email. At that point, I signed off from work, took some medical cannabis, and napped for hours. Thankfully, my vision is back to normal now. I go back for poke #2 on April 30. I'm hoping for no or mild symptoms. After I scheduled the appointment, I remembered that's my bday weekend.
