  1. WAPO also wrote about this 'Nicole Mincey' (well, mentioned anyway). By the way, I can spot those fake 'Black conservative' Twitter accounts a mile away! The curious case of ‘Nicole Mincey,’ the Trump fan who may actually be a Russian bot
  2. The Trump trolls who insist that Trump is good for the stock market, this one is for you.
  3. The North Koreans know that Trump has ZERO discipline and are trying to bait him into conflict.
  4. @Nothin'ButAttitude LOL, I was one of those folks who suggested Hunt Block play Rick Ryan, then the smarmy attitude would've worked but ATWT wasn't about making much sense by then! Lots of people couldn't have cared less about the Janet and Dusty pairing. Lots of people were "meh" about Katie and Chris as well. I know some (the few who still watched) were indifferent about the fact that Lily and Holden were likely to remain apart, either because they'd felt the pairing had ultimately run its course or because they didn't see much chemistry between Noelle Beck and Jon Hensley. This is probably why the show felt so compelled to bring back John Dixon for a limited run to reunite with Lucinda, because at least they were a pairing that people had felt strongly about at one time.
  5. I can see why Obama felt the need to speak out about the Kenyan election. People (if not the politicians) may actually listen. In any case, his voice does carry some weight. Obama Weighs In on Kenyan Election, Urging Calm
  6. In the show's last decade or so, ATWT seemed overly fond of making many of their characters as sleazy as can be. Craig and Larry are but two examples of how the show seemed to relish tearing down any narratives that previous regimes had thoughtfully created, only to replace it with poorly constructed characterizations that made little sense in the context of the show's history. IA about Allison and Casey, didn't care for them or about them. Unfortunately they weren't the only ones, I could probably say the same for most of the couples that were created in the show's last year and a half.
  7. Interesting scenes right now in South Africa as a secret ballot (but raucous proceedings) by MPs takes place in regards to whether to oust Jacob Zuma.
  8. And who says the U.S. is losing prominence in its ability to influence other countries and their culture(s). As Kenya’s Vote Nears, Fear That ‘Fake News’ May Fuel Real Bloodshed I distinctly remember when candidate Obama urged an end to the bloodshed in Kenya during their 2007-2008 elections. He was so upset with how badly the candidates and their supporters had conducted themselves that when newly elected, he opted to make his first African trip as President to Ghana, not Kenya, which the Kenyans were embarrassed and upset about but afterwards Kenyatta, who ended up being elected as well as his challenger Odinga vowed peace and a better way to resolve differences and for awhile it seemed as if the Kenyan electorate had reformed their ways and the next election was a lot more peaceful, with fewer incidents as everyone aspired to be more like Obama. Now I see they are again modeling themselves on what the U.S. has done during its elections season but for all the wrong reasons. In 2012, it was the Obama effect with higher standards and aspirations. Now its the Trump effect, opting for the lowest common denominator, fake news included.
  9. Wasn't this guy a big Trump supporter?
  10. You're not even supposed to touch cancer meds with bare hands unless you're the patient. I'm dubious, to say the least. Apparently the tests are unable to discern whether this was a one-time violation or done repeatedly. Also, despite the ITF's insistence that they were eliminating the silent ban, this whole process has been ongoing since April, the tribunal happened last month all behind closed doors.
  11. Apparently, what she used is a known "masking agent", which is also prohibited. Decision in the case of Sara Errani Read more at http://www.itftennis.com/news/267585.aspx?utm_source=t.co&utm_medium=referral#1uuwi9bOhg4FzCmC.99
  12. Word is, Sara Errani tested positive for a banned substance. I just read that she is due to hold a PC on Wednesday. Someone tweeted a reminder about who were the 2012 French Open Women's finalists.
  13. Ironic how many rural voters went for Trump, who barked about bad trade/no trade...they will likely be the biggest losers of the TPP withdrawal (good luck getting U.S. goods into the Asian agricultural market without elevated trade tariffs and inspection standards) Trade is almost as old as man. What many who voted for Trump don't realize is that trade flows both ways (benefits and drawbacks alike). No one gets "the perfect deal". Anyone who promises this is a liar and won't be able to deliver, ergo Trump. Sad that people were so consumed with undoing the legacy of the Black president that they were willing to lose out on so much. Although Brexit is somewhat different, there is now a thing called "The Brexit effect" where the U.K. stands to be locked out of the EU markets, including trade. It's already having an effect on the British pound and the U.K. economy as multi-national corporations and financial institutions pull up stakes and migrate out of England. It will be interesting to see whether London (which voted to Remain in the EU) can remain Europe's banking center and one of the world's most prominent financial markets. Like the EU countries with the U.K.' departure, the remaining TPP countries no longer believe that they need the U.S. to keep the pact vital-- they are now willing to work around the U.S.' absence to seal the pact. One only wonders, if a year from now the U.S. will be trying to somehow get a way into the pact sideways the way some states/government entities are already trying to get into some aspect of the Paris Climate Accord after they just elected to withdraw!
  14. Has anyone read this article? It was published a few years ago. Irna Phillips Brief life of soap opera’s single mother: 1901-1973
  15. Did those writers even know who Jeff & Annie were? Would they have taken the time to find out? Towards the end of the show's run, the writers and execs seem quite proud of their ignorance of the show's history. They seemed to lack any concern for cohesive storytelling or drawing on the show's rich history and seemed just fine with pulling stories out of their as*es.
  16. Well, since they're mirror images of each other now...at least career-wise. A reminder.
  17. Didn't he once try to drag Anthony Weiner? "Trump is right that the stock market is on a tear, up 22 percent since Election Day. But the stock market is not the economy, and the truth is that the economy hasn’t much changed since Trump took office. Growth remains at about 2 percent, wages are still barely rising and job gains, if anything, have slowed."
  18. Very lovely and you're right about the present administration, especially the head of it, who, nine out of ten former Presidential advisors would agree, is dumber than a bag of rocks. At least according to the ones quoted in this article in the New Yorker . Why Is Donald Trump Still So Horribly Witless About the World? Max Boot, a lifelong conservative who advised three Republican Presidential candidates on foreign policy, keeps a folder labelled “Trump Stupidity File” on his computer. It’s next to his “Trump Lies" file. “Not sure which is larger at this point,” he told me this week. “It’s neck-and-neck". “He seems as clueless today as he was on January 20th”.--Max Boot “Trump has an appalling ignorance of the current world, of history, of previous American engagement, of what former Presidents thought and did,” Geoffrey Kemp, who worked at the Pentagon during the Ford Administration and at the National Security Council during the Reagan Administration, reflected. “He has an almost studious rejection of the type of in-depth knowledge that virtually all of his predecessors eventually gained or had views on.”
  19. I guess I am not the only who think's he's lazy. I've been saying as much for months now.
  20. Happy Birthday President Obama!! Wonder what he wished for? Of all the coincidences in the world...!
  21. If we are so fortunate maybe Pence could be ensnared in it, and we could kick both he and Trump to the curb outside the WH. Both are awful. This is why I said that voters also need to rid Congress of the enablers who helped create the conditions for a Trump (and Pence) to get into the WH in the first place. Get as many of them out of Congress as humanly possible, so in the event that either the investigation lingers or Trump is able to hold on somehow, or even if he is replaced by Pence, there will be strict restrictions on what either man is able to do in office for the rest of that term, without prospects for another term. In other words, while the investigators do their work, we the people need to handcuff Trump and Pence and render them totally ineffective for how ever long they stay in office! Speaking of handcuffing people with horrendous regressive ideas who happen to be in positions of power, I'm glad that the FCC is holding off on reconfirming Ajit Pai's term as Chairmen. Based on his regressive, greed-filled ideas on corporate intercession in telecommunications and technology as exemplified in his horrid proposals on net neutrality, I'd love for him to just get chucked the hell out. He can sit right on the sidewalk far away from the WH with Trump and Pence.
  22. Anyone who has ever seen the play Angels In America, there is a very biting characterization of Cohn in that play. He was hated by many people because he ruined many people's lives without a second thought. He reveled in his hypocrisy so thoroughly that when he died, it was reported that civic organizations and groups that advocated for gay people could not even muster any sympathy for him because he was so horrid. And yes, it was very well known in the NYC area that he was Trump's lawyer (who used unethical and ruthless tactics in his advocacy on behalf of Trump) and mentor. New Yorkers tend to have very long memories which is why Trump's voting totals in his home city were so abysmal. You should always be wary of a candidate who gets little support in his home city because people can't stand him. New Yorkers knew.
