  1. I'm not sure if this was ever addressed but from what I've been able to glean, Parliament voted "No" on the timetable issue because Johnson wanted to give them some ridiculously short period of time to read and scrutinize a 430+ page legal text in order to ratify it. The MPs didn't think this was enough time and that Johnson has been trying to rush the process. Not sure whether this has been posted.
  2. This match actually happened.
  3. A few hours ago, I posted about the sublime (the preaching during the service), unfortunately, it must follow that every instance of the sublime will inevitably follow with an instance of the ridiculous.
  4. People with excess parking ticket fees have spent more time in prison.
  5. Yeah, I'm among those 'backsliders' who no longer attends church, and I actually considered closing out the service because I felt sad but I'm glad I didn't close out the tab because it was really uplifting and I too feel like I needed to hear the message. It reminded me of very real examples of someone who really tried to strive to do the work for his community, over decades. I also got a kick out of knowing that all in that room couldn't ignore that message...at least not today.
  6. For anyone who was actually paying attention to that rousing sermon delivered by Rep. Cummings' pastor, HRC won't be the focus. That pastor was PREACHING!!
  7. According to N.J. laws, if the liquor license at one Trump club gets revoked, all the liquor licenses at every N.J. located Trump club will be revoked. Definitely bad for a club's business.
  8. The U.S. is going to have to deal with the very real problem of voter suppression, one way or the other. It can't be continually avoided as trust in the election process continues to degrade.
  9. I know I shouldn't laugh at stuff like this but-
  10. In addition to AOC, Rep. Beatty also had a moment. (So did Maxine Waters, who was the first to ask FB's Zuckerman directly about whether FB intended to check/correct misinformation). Sadly only one of these instances got national coverage. By the way, Justice Democrats (of which AOC is a member) wants Rep. Beatty to be 'primary-ed'.
  11. France is said to be the voice of dissent on this.
  12. The Trump administration continues to take "L"s at the hands of the courts.
  13. These guys need to work through their beefs behind the scenes, every single one of them sound like whiners. None of them have won anything of significance to be going on this way and Nick barely holds people's attention these days, the rest, people barely know who they are. Compete on the court and let the rest go, at least publicly--ain't nobody got time for all this foolishness. They all sound so adolescent.
  14. I didn't realize that this was a real news broadcast.
  15. NYT finally gets around to admitting their 'mistake'. All the news that's fit to print?
  16. Interesting thread from the perspective of someone who worked in SCIF.
  17. Just a reminder that NYT is problematic and has had to retract and 'amend' stories that they've done and will likely have to continue to do so.
  18. I hope you're not talking about that bollocks article by Maggie Haberman about the dozen Democratic donors, @DRW50 because I'd have to agree with the sentiments expressed by others. IMO, it is too damn early to be hand-wringing and making these prognostications. Also, it's damaging psychically. Primary voting hasn't even begun, whatever happened to waiting until the first rounds to see how this unfolds? I don't get this type of thinking. Also, I also have to disagree about the sentiment that somehow Taylor's testimony was undermined by Trump's ignorant lynching comments. Yes, people were upset by his comment but also recognized it for what it was-- a deliberately provocative comment meant to obfuscate and draw attention away from Taylor's statements, which, imo, did not work. Most people I know were talking about the "bombshell" statements given by Taylor and what that meant. This morning the news focused more on that, as well as on the news that at least 50% of registered Independents polled are in favor of impeachment. Trump's "lynching" remarks were a very distant 3rd or 4th story.
  19. Bloomberg said he would not run yesterday. Anyway, this, in a nutshell is how the E.U. feels about the U.K. and Brexit. Junker is letting the exasperation show. He says that Brexit has been a "waste of time and energy".
  20. Life comes at you fast! About that football...
  21. Hold on to your hats. Let's see if Lucy pulls out the football, or not.
  22. I'll have to ask my family about this, some of them are Canadian citizens and reside in Ontario, although a few have very strongly negative feeling about the whole "Quebecois" issue (i.e. secession, not the political party). I will have to ask about the Alberta factor as well. From what I understand the other party that the Liberals would need to work with, in order to pass legislation are not conservative so that prospect looks a lot better compared to the possibility of having to work with conservatives. Hasan Minhaj did a good interview with PM Trudeau some time ago. It started out playfully but quickly evolved into Minhaj asking some serious questions and chiding Trudeau on environmental issues, which really put Trudeau in the hot seat. A quick look on Wikipedia, and it seems that Quebec has something of a special status called "Statut particulier", which gives them a status of being a "distinct society", while still being a part of Canada.
