  1. I couldn’t sit through more than 10 seconds of that video, the thought of watching a woman being brutalized is not something that I want to spend time taking in. I have stopped checking for what goes on with Sean Combs decades ago. It’s up to those in charge of this case to determine what repercussions will come of this and why a video from eight years ago is only now seeing the light of day.

  2. If part of the main premise is the fact that these members of this prominent family live in a gated community, jmo but it would make sense for the introduction to occur inside the environs of this gated community.

Please just don’t do Generations’ opening episode that spends an ungodly amount of time with Kelly Rutherford hiding/sleeping under a sheet! Any onscreen entertainment that opens with someone half asleep or sleeping for most of the episode sets an ominous tone for the series’ prospects.

  3. Interesting read, thanks for that excerpt @Paul Raven

I remember Scott Bryce talking about those very lengthy days when they would have to film weddings or community event when multiple characters had to be present.
Even from Bryce’s recounting, the environment did sound pretty chaotic but he had his way of coping, usually joking with colleagues. Sounds like it was the exact opposite for Granger.
I think everyone had at least a couple of fumbles with dialogue but many played it off effectively. My favorites are the actors who incorporated it into the scene, like if there was a scene indicating tension or stress and the actor presented it as if the character were reacting to a stressful or hypersensitive environment as if it were a natural reaction or if the scene partner reacts in the natural way that someone might react to a humorous faux-pas.

  4. Yesterday I was listening to the radio station (community radio) and one DJ’s radio show began with a choral version of “Lift Every Voice And Sing” as she often does but this time, I felt such a stir in my spirit. My thoughts began to drift and I wondered whether MVJ has imagined what her opening scene to the first episode would look like. Has she written it already or merely sketched it out? Occupational hazard, I guess.

My mind’s eye started imagining a well to do couple getting ready for a formal event with a flurry of people- stylist, tailor, makeup artist, barber, etc. From an antique radio (that still works), the strains of “Lift Every Voice And Sing” plays softly but distinctly the background.

Not as a fan of soaps but culturally as a Black woman and a Black woman who is a writer, it resonated, truly hit home the significance of what this show could truly mean. A recognition not simply in terms of consumers but our creative voices and vision.

Dabney was such a charismatic actor, so often making it impossible to stop watching the many horrible men he played. There's no one around like him now.

Probably because Coleman was ineffably, a character actor when you really look at his body of work. Perhaps the nature of the movie/entertainment business no longer sustains that ability.

  6. Is anyone actually surprised by this? I saw this in the paper yesterday and didn’t even blink, such was my lack of surprise.

That is totally his doing but Alito is passing the buck. Why can’t some of these rabid right wing justices start facing impeachment proceedings?

This is how many actors now, they just can't figure how to write for Chance.  I like Conner Floyd.

People used to blame Robert Adamson for Noah not getting storylines but I had repeatedly said that regardless of which actor is cast, the writers never seemed to be able to write an age appropriate story for that character since he reached adulthood. It seems like the writers are incapable of writing for more than one character in any given age group at a time, e.g. if both Noah and Kyle are on the canvas, they can only write adequate stories for one and the writers have obviously chosen Kyle. Similar to how it has always been once Chelsea and Chloe were on the canvas simultaneously.

  8. There was a jazz radio station based in NYC called CD 101.9 FM which would play all types of jazz (from big band, to bebop and fusion) and when they would play fusion Sandborn, Chick Correa and George Duke are three names who would get the most mentions on that station.

    And yes, Spyro Gyra.

We probably discussed this song a few years ago, either in this thread or in a separate thread concerning popular music used on soaps but this song has an interesting history.
James Dunne and Pamela Phillips-Oland wrote it and the original version was first performed by Dunne and Tonya Pinkins for the soap, then performed on the show and recorded by Jermaine Jackson and Whitney Houston. Clive Davis wanted the song included on Whitney’s debut album (which was the 1st album I ever bought and it’s still in my record collection). Anne Murray and a second cousin to Kenny Loggins recorded a country version of the song (apparently released even before Whitney and Jermaine’s version hit the charts) which went to #1.

Over the last few years when a soap opera themed podcast has interviewed Tonya, especially when they ask about her time on ATWT, I wished that someone would ask her in depth about having been the first singer to perform the song, in a duet with one of the actual songwriters but the questions never seem to go beyond the superficial and the need to pour some “tea”. It would be interesting to hear from the songwriters on how their song ended up debuting on ATWT.

I did, and I got absolutely no response from any of the moderators (or whatever they are called).  I did get one response from a fellow poster, who misunderstood my post and went off on a tangent.  LOL.   So I wouldn't suggest the Support Desk as a way to solve anything, because apparently nobody monitors it -- or if they do, they only respond to the posts that interest them.  Worthless.

Try the Private Message feature to Errol or Toups.

  11. Not to put anyone down but Westerners tend to be narrowly focused on one single cause. I mean people have been consistently slaughtered in Sudan for over a year with little notice by American media or people, with the exception of those communities more directly affected.
