  1. It feels nice to see someone refer to Trump as ex-president.
  2. I already posted this song yesterday in the "What are you listening to?" thread.....
  3. This song just feels appropriate right now.....
  4. Maybe slightly premature, but I'll risk it.....
  5. So it looks like we might get a happy end after all? I'll readily admit that I was very worried earlier today when the numbers pointed towards a Trump victory. But it feels much better now. I had hoped for a more decisive victory for Biden, but getting rid of Trump was the ultimate goal, and if that is achieved then that's a good result.
  6. Good luck to everyone who's voting today or have voted already. I think the whole world is waiting anxiously on the results. I know I am.
  7. I think this goes way deeper than the Charlie Hebdo attacks. And it's an incredibly complex problem that is not going to go away easily, if at all. And it's also not just in France. We're seeing the same problems here in Sweden, and most likely all over Europe. Immigrants from Africa and elsewhere are coming to Europe in search of a better life and a future, but what they find is in many cases unemployment and new hardships. I can mostly just speak for how it is here of course, but our society just hasn't been able to cope with all these people. There are not enough jobs to go around, and during the great migration crisis a few years ago things got so bad that we didn't even have somewhere to house all the people coming here. We're still struggling with the effects of that period. Add to this the major cultural differences that exists and you have a recipe for disaster. This is just scratching the surface of course. There are so many aspects to this problem... sociological, religious, cultural, economical, and yes even racial. Racism has always been a part of European society and the horrors of WWII and the nazis are not as prominent in people's minds anymore. It's just 75 years since the war ended and you're already hearing a lot of rhetoric similar to what you'd hear in the 1930s.
  8. These two incidents are most likely part of the escalating conflict that started with the gruesome murder of teacher Samuel Paty a few weeks ago.
  9. There's been a rapid increase in new cases here recently, so yesterday new restrictions were implemented in some regions, including where I live. Libraries, museums and other public buildings have shut down for three weeks, the ban on gatherings of more than 50 that had been relaxed somewhat has been re-introduced. We are also strongly advised to stay away from shopping malls, bars, restaurants etc and only use public transport if it's absolutely necessary. Schools will remain open for the time being, but those who can are strongly recommended to work from home.
  10. Connery's first wife, actress Diane Cilento, accused him of physical and mental abuse in her autobiography back in 2006, so there seems to be a disturbing trend regarding his attitude towards women.
  11. Another attack at a church in France. A priest has been shot and seriously injured in Lyon. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-54763136 This comes only a few days after three people were murdered inside a church in Nice https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-54736277
  12. In memory of Sean Connery
  13. Wow, a true icon has left us. R.I.P. Mr. Connery ETA: I would have thought that he deserved his own thread....
  14. Not Michael Jackson?!
  15. ^^ Ouch Kirstie, that burn has got to hurt!
  16. I've been watching a lot of videos with this CNN anchor, Brianna Keilar, recently, and she's masterful at dismantling Trump and his cronies, and she always has the footage to prove her pont.
  17. Wow, it's rare to see someone be so uncomfortable on tv as the guy on the left here, republican senator David Perdue. It's a beautiful thing to behold.
