  1. This is part of the Variety Show that was held as a fund raiser for University Hospital in the 70s. The uploader says it's from 1978 but I believe it may actually be from 1978.

And this is when Doug's Place was moved and renamed Doug's Place on the Lake. This is opening night. The uploader says this is also from 1978. But I think it must be 1979 or 1980, when Doug was still married to Lee but wanting to get back with Julie. Doug sings "The Look of Love," which was Doug and Julie's "song" since 1970.

  2. Thanks. That makes more sense now that I've seen some of the earlier material. It's such a fun clip. DAYS had such a vibrant middle-age set at this point. I'll never really know why they saw them as so expendable and old.

Susan has dropped hints that an NBC executive wanted the show to appeal to younger people. I'm pretty sure that was Brian Frons.

  3. Sounds like a lot of fun, and it's nice that they weren't just someone's parents here.

Julie's hair looks better in this episode.

It's weird that in one episode Chris is heavily flirting with Kayla and then soon after with Marlena. I wonder if they ever compared notes.

I like Renee sometimes but she annoyed me a lot in that episode...

Well, Chris was quite the ladies man at the time, lol. He was Kayla's first lover. Yeah, this was not the best hair period for either Doug or Julie.

  4. Thanks. I can see why they got rid of some of these characters.

This Melissa reminds me a little of the Mary Andersons.

The stuff with Julie calling a fake fire department to burst in on Doug and Mitzi was a hoot.

Woody and Oliver were definitely duds. I wasn't crazy about this Melissa either. The Joshua recast was okay but not as good as the original.

Doug and Julie had some fun moments during this storyline (as opposed to all the drama they had previously been used to). Julie eventually got the code off of Mitzi's hip tattoo by getting in the hot tub with her. They even got arrested while in the bedroom of the madam of a brothel. Julie had dressed up like one of the madam's girls.

  5. I see a strong friendship chemistry (whereas I don't think they even had that as Roman/Marlena), but not very romantic. They did have more at the time though.

I could swear Neil was yawning during Liz's performance. I guess they hear those songs over and over.

That actually became Liz and Neil's song so he was destined to hear it many more times, lol. Liz even sang it at their wedding.

  6. Thanks.

Watching the second one now...first time I've ever seen the robot. For some reason I thought that was mostly a story for Eugene.

The boy and girl on the phone at the start - I don't really know them.

That's Melissa Anderson (Horton) and Oliver (don't remember his last name). Oliver turned out to be the brother of Woody King and Gwen Davies. All three had some back story about their father being abusive or something like that. That's why they had different last names and pretended that they didn't know each other.

  7. The only person I can't place in that 1982 is the blond woman in the back row, third in from the left, next to Don Frabotta (Dave). Is it Martha Smith (Sandy Horton)? I think she was around then, though I can't remember a single storyline or scene of hers.

It's not Martha Smith. Can't think of the actress' name but it looks like the character "Gretchen" who was Marlena's secretary/receptionist during the Salem Strangler storyline.

  8. This is an article from "The Baltimore Sun" about one of Maryland's gubernatorial candidates named Ron George. Apparently, he had a bit role on "The Doctors" in 1978. The part I found most interesting was this quote:

"An NBC publicist scoffed at the idea that any footage might still exist from the 30-minute episodes in which George starred, but George said his main line involved saying, "Doctor, doctor," while lying in a hospital bed."

Weren't there rumors that episodes of "The Doctors" were going to be aired somewhere? Or maybe that just pertained to 80s episodes.

  9. Susan also became a step-grandmother when she married Bill, as he had at least one grandson at the time. Julie was just a step-mother though (to her half-sister). Susan mentioned in a recent interview that she hopes Days gives her and Bill a cake for their 40th wedding anniversary since they met on the show.

  10. I enjoyed the article too. I thought this was a good group of younger characters.

Bell used to incorporate impotence a lot (in his Days stories anyway). Besides Mike, Doug was impotent with Julie after she was raped and Bob was also impotent with Julie. She was such a sensual being too. She really was frustrated when she was married to Bob! And then of course Susan Martin had the problem of being "frigid."
