  1. You're welcome! I liked her very much as Laura. I didn't care for Susan Oliver in the role. She seemed too cold. I didn't hate Rosemary Forsyth and thought she came closer to portraying Laura's persona. Jaime Lynn Bauer seems like a different character altogether.

I marvel now when I think that when I first started getting hooked on Days the cast included Susan Flannery, Susan Seaforth, and Denise Alexander, three of my favorite (and in my opinion, among the best) soap actresses.

  2. Does anybody here remember Leonie Norton who was the first Kate Swanson on LOVE OF LIVE?

I loved her on LOVE OF LIFE as well as ANOTHER WORLD and ONE LIFE TO LIVE.

If I remember correctly, Leonie's Kate played out the early stages of the Rick/Barbara/Kate storyline.

If anyone has any information on La Norton. I would appreciate it. Thanks In Advance!!!! :-)

I just posted a couple of articles in the One Life to Live thread.

  3. Well, I liked Kim so I was on her side whatever she did. Something about Jennifer put me off, I don't really know what it was, I didn't find her sympathetic. Were Carol and Tom a couple at this time? I liked them too. This may have been a little later but I was really into the Lisa/Grant/Joyce triangle. Barbara Rodell was such a great villainess. Joyce made Lisa seem like the heroine!

  4. Thanks so much for the summaries! I was watching in 1973 but I was in junior high/high school so I could only watch during school breaks. There had been a lot of pre-emptions that summer because of the Watergate hearings. The early 70s are still my favorite era of Days. I would so love to see it again (all of it this time!).

I don't remember Sharon so I don't think she had a major story with Mike. I do remember Jay. Again, I don't think he was a major character, just someone to cause some conflict for Mickey and Maggie. I also remember Burt Atwater and he was involved with Mary at one point. I'm pretty sure Karin Wolfe was playing Mary at this time. I hadn't remembered that people thought Mickey had run off with Linda!

  5. Ron Raines was just nominated for a Tony Award -- Best Actor in a Musical for his role in Follies. I never liked his take on Alan Spaulding, but I know he's got musical chops. Congratulations to him -- and to OLTL's Judith Light, who was nominated for Best Featured Actress in a Play.

I saw Raines in Follies when it was in Washington, D.C. He did a good job. He has a good voice and even did a bit of dancing. I always thought he was too bombastic as Alan though.

  6. I had the delightful pleasure of meeting an ex-Secret Storm cast member yesterday...Frances Sternhagen, who played Jessie Reddin. Ms. Sternhagen shared her memories of the Oscar and Tony Award winning actor Jose Ferrer on the occasion of the US Postal Servie's 'First-Day-of-Issue' ceremony held at the prestigious Players' Club in NYC. Ferrer's widow extended me an invitation to the event as he was a longtime member of our Westchester community. Ms. Sternhagen's credits include stints on 'Another World' and 'Love of Life.'

How exciting! I definitely remember her on Secret Storm (as well as many other productions).

  7. Those didn't show up for me.

The soap magazines at the time made hay of him being #1 in some poll of the man women most wanted to see in Playgirl. I can't say I really get the attraction...

I didn't see the attraction at the time and I still don't. I don't remember him being popular in the soap magazine polls so I don't know how he ended up #1 on the Playgirl poll.

  8. I knew it would be downhill after Burton became involved but I had a glimmer of hope that it wouldn't be completely dreadful after Depp's reassurances that he had been a fan of the show. I can't fathom who the target audience for this is. Certainly can't be the fans of the series. And you're right, the actors in the series always played it straight, no matter the material. That's what made it work, I believe. I know I was one of those kids who ran home from school to watch it every day.

  9. I'm not sure what they would have done with her. There was a big demand from fans by this time to get Doug and Julie back together since the news was out that Bill Hayes and Susan Seaforth were a real-life couple. Doug had grown to love Addie though and was determined to become a good father to Hope. He had resisted all of Julie's efforts to get back with him. And after Addie went into remission from the leukemia, Julie resolved to go on with her life without Doug. That's why she married Bob Anderson. It's hard to imagine Doug would have left Addie at this point. So I guess the only thing they could think of was to kill her. I remember Addie wanted a second chance to raise Hope better than she did Julie.
