  1. The gold standard for that will always be Gale and Dale singing a modern spiritual ... "One Toke Over the Line". Both of them seem to be two seconds from cracking up at the ruse.

LOL! That one I don't remember. I'll have to look that one up. Of course, Bill Hayes in character as Doug used to sing pop songs in the 70s but I can't think of anything that was too bad, unless maybe it was when he did "Puppet Man."

  2. This is only indirectly related to Days but this clip includes Helen Funai who played Doug Williams' ex-wife, Kim Douglas, on Days in the 70s. Helen was one of the "Ding-A-Ling Sisters" on The Dean Martin Show around the same time. Helen is on the left, and gorgeous Jayne Kennedy is on the right. I believe the blondes are Michelle Della Fave and Lindsay Bloom.

And here they are in color.

  3. I also couldn't imagine Bethel doing the scenes you described. And I definitely can't see her doing the scenes in which Maggie was thinking to herself that she was old and ugly. She just doesn't have that vulnerability.

  4. Depboy let me know that Mike Farrell of MASH, Providence and Days Of Our Lives appeared at some point as Tom Marsh. He got the information fro a Where are They Now column from a magazine out in 1971. So he must have appeared between 63-70.

Great find Dep! Has anyone ever heard of this character?

I remember Mike Farrell played a character named Sam Marsh on a prime time show called "The Interns," in 1970. Could there be some confusion with that?

  5. This is from a 1973 magazine called "The Australian Women's Weekly." Australia was a few years behind so the pictures are actually from an earlier time period. I know the picture with Bill, Susan, and Denise was taken in 1971. Also, the article mistakenly states that Linda was pregnant with Mickey's child.

  6. There was one episode that was reported for inappropriate content for some strange reason and some of us couldn't see it at first. That could be the one. If so, make sure the age restriction filter is off.

  7. I was watching at the time and I did get bored with some of the newer characters. Even though I liked Trish, I thought she was on too much. I didn't find Amanda especially interesting either. She was just okay to me. I did like Valerie & David (although I thought it was ridiculous that Julie had a son his age), and Brooke.

  8. The Friday shows were really good. I get such a kick out of Karen. She's not even trying to pretend that this marriage to Steve is anything, except what it is.

Loved seeing Mike. This makes me wonder if we're going to see a young Anna Stuart soon.

I don't believe Anna Stuart arrived until around 1971.

We should be seeing Nancy O'Donoghue soon though. She played a physical therapist and I believe Mike dated her for a while.

Oh, and I found a newsclipping indicating that Ralph Purdum returns as Phillip Townsend (hospital board chairman) on September 25, 1968 (so that's coming up very soon for us).

  9. Thank you for the summaries, jam.

So the pregnancy Maggie had early in her run - was that Greta?

I guess Kate left in the September 1965 section. I always wondered if she left with that Brock guy. I guess not, if he was killed afterward.

I had to laugh at the multiple mentions of Matt having a "violent argument." Nick eat your heart out.

I believe that Kurt Van Alen was Greta's father so Maggie must have lost her first baby.

I did find an article that mentioned Ellen McRae's (Burstyn's) hiring and it was implied that she was hired to fill the gap created while Ann Williams was on maternity leave. Apparently, Ellen was already fairly well known at the time.

  10. Yes, I was very upset when they were written out. It seemed kind of sudden to me at the time (or maybe I had been in denial). I was so crazy over them at the time that I tape recorded their scenes so I could play it back (and I'm talking audio recording, not video, lol).

I loathed what they did with Nola regarding Buzz. Apart from her behavior, no way would she have been attracted to someone like Buzz. He was the exact type she worked so hard to get away from.

I always thought Bridget should have been Nola's daughter instead of her niece. I don't know why Stacey never appeared as an adult.
