Any reason why OLTL was in the middle of the pack, or dangerously close to being near the bottom 4 soaps in '78?
Like it was once said, OLTL's success is the reason they greenlighted AMC. But it seems like in the mid-late 70s it was waning.

I wish Valentini would stop trying to make GH "ABC Daytime's Greatest Hits of actors." That said, I think it absolutely makes sense for characters that were lawyers like Nora and Jack to feasibly crossover with their roles for guest stints.
It's only when we get to terrible casting and force-feeding the likes of Cameron Mathison, Roger Howarth, or Michael Easton in long-term roles that just don't work where I get pissed.
This! Don't mind the guest stints, but the others have not been my cup of tea.

^And I don't have any problem with that.

Lola's death was one of the most well produced and most realistic deaths I've seen in a soap. Wonderfully acted and bound to have lasting ramifications for years.

Such a shame. Y&R continues to shun it's younger cast of characters. It's anything but YOUNG and the Restless.

Guiding Light
AC Mallet
Josh Lewis (At least I don't think Doug Marland had the plans to make him the ultimate leading man of GL for much of the 80s and late 90s)
I'm on the fence about Mindy Lewis. Once Phillip/Beth/Rick/Mindy quad was over and went their separate ways, Mindy had several romances apart from the Four Musketeers (and scandals...Roger)

Ned is annoyed so that further down the road when the truth comes out, he'll have an axe to grind with Nina too These writers are so transparent in regards to their biases.

I'll take it with a grain of salt, but we should've known this could happen when they brought Kathy back.

Simple, that’s what she used to bludgeon him with in the hotel room.
Thanks! I couldn't remember how he died, funny how long ago that was.

Why does it make me think of Cameron. A bottle of champagne?

I agree. Sally made Chelsea redundant.
To add to that
Chloe, Chelsea, and Sally are basically the same character,

I agree, the show is seemingly in a good position now, best it's been since pre-Jon Sen.
My only gripe is that recast Elaine/Linda don't really feel like mother/daughter (yet) and Ben's constant misery.

Funny you should mention Reva and Philip. Yes, she was presumed dead when Zimmer left in 1990, and we were told Philip died with the who killed Philip story, but in 1990, we saw Philip, Beth and Rick fake his death when he was accused of killing Beth's ex Neil. I actually thought the story was fun when he ran into India and she returned to Springfield, and Mallet was introduced on to them. There was a hilarious scene where Beth snuck out of the house to see Philip dressed as India, and India put a basketball under her shirt pretending to be pregnant Beth, only to hear Mallet say, "that's not Beth!" But there was the complication with Mindy as she felt Beth and Rick were shutting her out of grieving the 4th musketeer with them, I believe they got married, and it pushed Mindy further into Roger's arms. And with Reva, remember the clone.
I remember watching some of this story on YouTube (not most of it, don't believe we have Mallet's introduction) and it was such good writing on behalf of Long/Jones/Curlee.

Love Blake Berris, hate Ron bringing him back as a ghost (or for Halloween a zombie) constantly.

What touching words from John Stamos. Didn't think he'd mention her passing, but I'm glad he did.
Someone mentioned Lisa Brown's passing earlier, and I feel the same way right now as I did about her passing. Shock and unable to believe that someone with such light, humor, and warmth could be taken away from us. She seemed like one of those people who would live on forever.

With Ron Carlivati in charge, there is no such thing as character growth.

Wow this is such a shock. She is what made GH, well GH. It’ll be interesting to see how the show writes in her passing, because even Frank knows how vital she was to the show.

Do not want to see Dex and Joss screwing because she's fearful that Spencer has gone missing, who btw she could have cared less about a few weeks ago.

I think it's painfully obvious that we won't. TPTB think episodes from 2018 are classics.

I'd be all for killing off Gabi, if it was similar to the way Renee was killed. Telling off half the town, and it being tragic by having Stefan find her body. But Ron wouldn't be that clever...
Always thought the show should've spun years out of the Kate/Sami/Gabi quad after Nick's death. All three women played flawlessly off each other.

Sheffer would've probably flourished on a primetime soap of his own creation, like a Marc Cherry/Desperate Housewives.

One of the biggest missteps of Kate Oates tenure at EE (but then again there's been many), is the turning Ben Mitchell into Walford's very own Aaron Dingle.

I really like Kathy. Though I do find it disappointing how they write her as too soft, with Ben constantly ignoring anything she says.
Yes this, especially the scenes regarding Zack/Ben in the pub this past week. But maybe that's just her persona?

Lol and you pin pointed why B&E at least, could not revisit Josh/Harley . In order for that writing team to do a potential Reva/Josh/Harley/Phillip quad (or triangle), someone had to be the villain, as demonstrated by nearly all the triangles that took place under them.
I must say though, I'd rather have had Josh/Harley than Josh/Cassie towards the end of the show's run, however that in itself is another discussion for another day lol
