EastEnders: Discussion Thread
I can't get past the absurdity of 25-30 year old-looking Louise constantly being called 14 and a kid and so on. The wooden duff-duff where Abi, who looks a fair bit YOUNGER than Louise, called her "little girl" actually made me LOL. Ronnie's new Danielle replacement Hannah looks closer to 14 and she can sort of act - why was she not cast in this role?

Coronation Street: Discussion Thread
As these are two more episodes I had requests for by someone on Twitter, I figured I'd post them, as it takes bizarre amounts of time and patience to put anything on Dailymotion. These are episodes I'd read about and been interested in but never actually seen - the storyline where an embittered Dev goads factory bad boy Joe Carter into a fight, hoping to put the finishing touches on his relationship with Dev's ex Geena. The fight itself is a bit weak sauce (Eastenders and Emmerdale were always better at those anyway), but it's good material for Dev, who always interested me in his darker, more ruthless periods as a character. The scene where he tells Geena about Joe's lies and the scene where he whispers filth in Joe's ear are standouts. Dev and Geena were actually a good, likeable couple (he had a lot more chemistry with her than he did with Sunita), but I can see why the producers were clearing the decks of some of the interchangeable sweet young ingenues on display at this point. This also reminds me how much I enjoyed Deirdre at the corner shop compared to the generic "council job" of later years. Other stories include Maxine's annoying mother wanting to get a divorce, Richard beginning his stomach-churning plan to make Audrey think she was getting dementia (perfectly pitched and played in tone here, as the whole story was), Peter and Shelley yammering about a reunion that would set up his old mate Ciaran's introduction (Ciaran would be a very different character to what he became later on) and one of the mini-stories they gave Toyah as they knew Georgia Taylor would soon be leaving - she enters Les' chair in an art exhibition, as a commentary on the squalid working man of today compared to the strong, progressive working man of earlier years (I couldn't help taking that as a meta-commentary on how shallowly many working men were presented on Corrie at this point compared to the strength and intelligence they were given for much of the '60s and '70s). Les finds out, and in that always dramatic yelpy Les way, is devastated by her betrayal and mockery. http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x41r6ea_coronation-street-16th-september-2002-episode-1_fun http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x433b1y_coronation-street-september-16-2002-episode-2-1-3_fun http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x4349i8_coronation-street-september-16-2002-episode-2-2-3_fun http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x42kbds_coronation-street-september-16-2002-episode-2-3-3_fun

Emmerdale: Discussion Thread
There's so much I could say about today's episodes, like how the Whites will never be a sympathetic or likeable family regardless of how big a bogeyman Robert is, like how the decision to try to make Lachlan a moral authority is one of the most disgusting in Emmerdale's 44 years, like how obvious it is that the show still wants Robert to be a one-note mustache-twirling plot device and resents that any fans wanted more for him, but I'll just say this instead: I’m pretty sure one of the reasons they did that scene was as a homage to Kim Tate checking her lippy as she left her very estranged husband Frank to die of a heart attack it’s at the end of this episode - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M6HpN711rno I hate when Eastenders does that (as they recently did when they had Phil give Sharon divorce papers a la Den and Angie, complete with ripping off the dialogue), and it’s not much better here. It’s too self-aware, too precious, and too unearned. Robert may be a sexy blonde, but he’s not Kim Tate, who was not only a far better written character, but had a slow, gradual decay, in both her moral outlook and her relationship with Frank, to act that way. The scene today would have been the equivalent of Kim leaving someone like Lady Tara to die - not a complete surprise, but completely pointless, and making her look like a bad campy joke and a plot device rather than a complex character. You were lucky with Ryan Hawley, Emmerdale, whether you know it or not - and Claire King - very wisely if today’s episode is any indication - will never come back. I don’t care how nice of a backside he has, Robert Sugden is not and will never, ever be Kim Tate, or anything close.

Emmerdale: Discussion Thread
I am SO proud that Andy gave Lawrence's prehistoric ass an ultimatum tonight! I cannot wait for Robert to get a hold of that old fart. I just want someone to tell Chrissie all her love interests have more sexual chemistry with her father than they do with her.

The story was supposed to be like "The Children's Hour," which would have been a mess.

It depends on the media. NYT has hated her for decades. Washington Post is little better.

The argument I keep hearing is that the Southern states all voted so early because it was rigged for Hillary. Never mind that these states have voted early for years (and Hillary lost most of them in 2008 so that rigging was about 8 years late). That and the "Bernie wins all the states that count in November" argument are the two that embarrass me the most.- ALL: Temporary Replacements
Warning: You will have to see Tim Gibbs Kevin in this clip. Wow I'd forgotten just how assy JFP's OLTL was.- The Politics Thread
Funny how I keep hearing that Bernie has to get the nomination because he will bring endless new voters and turnout for the Democrats...and then when he wins WI in a landslide, the Democrat running for the state supreme court against a hard right bigot loses resoundingly. I guess most of those voters just showed up for his name and left. Given that he's all but said he has no interest in supporting downballot candidates, no wonder.- The Politics Thread
Sad article about the hate against Muslims in the South in recent years. http://www.buzzfeed.com/davidnoriega/muslims-used-to-love-living-in-tennessee-now-its-a-nightmare- Emmerdale: Discussion Thread
Seeing Andy get a sh!t-kicking was punishment for what he's put my eyes through as a viewer with this failure of a storyline. They have trashed his character and ruined an interesting relationship with Robert for that family of abusers. They will do anything to make this failure of a family have less of a stench. I don't buy it. I never will. I just wish Alicia had gotten in some kicks on that rape-enabling shrew, but unlike professional victim Chrissie, Alicia is actually a decent person.- As The World Turns Discussion Thread
I'd say it worked at RH because she was her own boss, and at GH because she worked well with Wendy Riche, for the most part. It did her few favors at OLTL, where a lot of her writing was glaringly off-key. The rumor at the time of her GL run was that Paul Rauch was sabotaging her work. Whether that's true or not, I don't know, but I do think she would have had more of a chance at ATWT.- What Are You Listening To?

I actually think he left ATWT in a pretty decent place and I felt like while it was a dark and at times needlessly dense time, parts of the show with characters not named Holden, Rosanna or Courtney also felt fresh and vibrant in a way that was not always the case from 88-91 IMO. Sadly, a lot of things went wrong (some not their fault and others very much so) to derail ATWT.- The Politics Thread
Bernie fans will just say they're in the tank for Hillary... The slow motion Trump collapse continues (not really that slow, it just feels like it). http://www.politico.com/story/2016/04/donald-trump-campaign-staff-disarray-221557- Emmerdale: Discussion Thread
I think if done right he and Tracy could be a decent pairing (although I'd prefer Leyla or Carly), but it all seems one on top of the other - her feelings, his cancer, Jacob's anger. This show really needs to pace better and to learn to breathe. The sh!tfest with Robert and Andy/Chrissie (ugh) on top of Aaron's trial is another example.- Emmerdale: Discussion Thread
No. She was still going to do the story. The difference is he was going to get the news directly, whereas here he initially is told he's clear. Yes, and Gordon. I think Matthew's done well so far. I hope they will write it to his strengths. I have a feeling they may do this to set up his relationship with Tracy. I'd rather a serious illness not be used for that purpose, but we'll see. I just hope they play the beats. They didn't with Diane because Kate Oates didn't care about the Sugden family. This needs to be a family story in the way that one, a plot device, was not.- As The World Turns Discussion Thread
I thought Smith was decent enough. I believed him as a reformed playboy with a hint of darkness. I believed that he loved Carolyn. While it was absurd that Frannie would so quickly fall for him, Frannie had been a very stagnant character, mostly enlivened by MES' own personal charisma. She was more of a plot point than a character (she had been for most of Julianne Moore's run too). The chemistry between Smith and Stuart made me believe it enough to stay interested in the story.- Emmerdale: Discussion Thread
So this is the "twist" the new producer did for David's story. http://www.digitalspy.com/soaps/emmerdale/news/a789278/emmerdale-spoilers-david-metcalfe-cancer-storyline-sees-dr-bailey-give-him-wrong-result/ I'm not a big fan of this (it basically overshadows David's story and tells people not to trust their doctor) but at least it only lasts an episode, so hopefully it won't be that bad.- The Walking Dead: Discussion Thread
I thought it was dramatic enough, albeit in part thanks to Lennie's performance. I can't say I disagree with a lot of the criticisms, especially the choice to have a cliffhanger, but I was so blown away by Andrew Lincoln's performance, and Josh McDermitt's too. JDM was also excellent. I wish they'd made a lot of different basic writing choices this season (especially, as someone said, to not write so much based on the viewer's point of view), but a lot of the episode worked for me due to the quality of acting. And I loved Rick losing it over Michonne's hair. Pure soap.- Emmerdale: Discussion Thread
I didn't mind the comparison, because he wants to be there for a screwed-up child the way Paddy was, but having this mentioned when Paddy (and Adam) has been sidelined from this story was just dumb. Kate Oates did her level best to remove many of Aaron's loved ones from his life for reasons I don't understand. I think Bernice was put out more than anything, but probably some jealousy. I wish they didn't always make Bernice so weak. I wish they could let her find strength, instead of passing that bowl cut bitch as some ideal woman. - The Politics Thread
