  1. He also said that Trump's birtherism is "4 years ago," even though Trump has since refused to say he was wrong, and his surrogates like Rudy "Of course it's legal. It's a war" Fooliani have to lie that he's changed his mind. I can't stand that blithe bigot. I didn't realize until a few days ago some of the vile things said in his little newsletter back in the '90s - views he likely still supports. http://www.rightwingwatch.org/content/mike-pence-lamented-aids-activists-speaking-gop-convention-published-anti-gay-articles-india http://www.pfaw.org/sites/default/files/images/4336_001.pdf?_ga=1.234380446.161301739.1469202878 (this one is really really really NSFW and has explicit talk of fetishes and sex practices) http://www.slate.com/blogs/outward/2016/09/01/mike_pence_gay_sex_essay_ronald_d_ray_on_homosexuals_in_the_military.html
  2. A few people in the comments section have been giving out some history about Tom's ultimate fate (apparently Marcy's gambling debts led her to be tied to the mob, which ended in Tom dying to protect some girl from a mobster - he died in Victor's arms). It's a fascinating read.
  3. I actually agree with Trump, even if it's not for the reasons he has (he doesn't want anyone to interrupt or question him). Moderators at Presidential debates are increasingly prone to showboating and blatant partisanship. Anyway, this is Trump's "deplorables" ad. http://talkingpointsmemo.com/livewire/trump-ad-deplorable I know you can never go broke underestimating the stupidity of the American public, but this is a remarkably cheap-looking ad, overwrought, flatly narrated, and overlong. I have a feeling they had her drone on and on because they know her voice will irritate some viewers, but it breaks away from whatever outrage the ad is supposed to stoke.
  4. What I said was that Democrats are always happy to help Democrats lose elections. I never said, "Gore would have won if all Democrats had fallen into line." I do think that they helped contribute to his loss, because they zeroed in on things that shouldn't have mattered anywhere as much as they did (like attacks on his personality). There are always Democrats, every year, who pop up with criticisms and contrarisms just to get their name out there, be contrary, and sandbag their party. Odious Lieberman used to be one until he was booted out in 2006. Ed Rendell is another. And Axelrod.
  5. Ok when exactly have democrats lost. Yes I know they have blown the senate and house and have let the GOP take over the states stupidly. I blame the DNC for the later. But in terms of the presidency when? Gore. Many Democrats would not go anywhere near him because of years of antipathy and apathy. These "experts" are always popping up to get attention, and yes, I do think they help Democrats lose.
  6. Another great example of why Democrats lose - other Democrats relish the chance to be a part of it. http://www.politico.com/story/2016/09/david-axelrod-clinton-privacy-228017
  7. I don't mind Lawrence and Lachlan in recent months, but Chrissie is a trainwreck. I'm not looking forward to an insta-feud or hissing and fighting with her sister (they seemed to be close offcamera so I guess this is a retcon). I don't mind female rivalries on soaps but I don't think they should be an absolute. And i hope she won't sniff after Robert or have a sexual past with him. I want him away from the Whites.
  8. I don't even know if I believe at this point that they want it to be a horserace. I think a lot of them want a Trump win. The media likely feels they created Trump, back in the '80s, and they benefit from him. Like Les Moonves bragged about how good Trump was for the industry, even if he wasn't good for America. If Trump wins, he will crush them. 100%. A lot of the people who have his ear loathe the media and will make power grabs as quick as they can. But the media is insulated and drunk with power. Moonves, Jeff Zucker, etc. lap it up.
  9. What bothers me about the transparency criticism is that it was her own doctor who told the press. If there had been a coverup, that wouldn't have happened. I think they realized someone would likely find out, so decided to be honest, and it was only really a few hours between the "overheated" excuse and the pneumonia reveal. If you listen to the press, this was a long-term FDR-style coverup. If people expected her to immediately say she had pneumonia and to not just try to deal with it, as most people do, then they are getting to a point where they expect a nominee to tell them every time they use the toilet. A lot of people want her health to be an issue, the press wants it to be an issue, so they seize on an opportunity to make it an issue. They will do anything to make sure she loses.
  10. I'm mutely terrified more than anything else. I wish they'd just skip the debates. Trump will "win." The media will tell us so. It's W all over again.
  11. Emily Head is joining the show as the oft-mentioned White sister, Rebecca. She gets her own Kim Tate and Sadie King helicopter shot. http://www.itv.com/presscentre/press-releases/emily-head-joins-emmerdale-play-rebecca-white Not sure how to feel about this but I hope she'll be a good addition, and maybe help expose the Whites.
  12. Tom and his brother (sounds like Tom was a nefarious character by this point?). According to the uploader, Joe Gallison was also playing the brother.
  13. The person doing the clips said his name actually was "Tom," and his being named that by Meredith was a coincidence. That she named him after her bio dad (Tom Sutton) and Edward, a pet cat. Apparently Tom's brother was also on the show at some point.
  14. A great example of how the media is spinning this (and likely had this written up in waiting for a while now...): I had to laugh at the part where they said she was summer's "sure-thing candidate" when it was only a month or so after the disastrous convention that the press wasn't going on about how the race was tight and Trump was kicking ass. They love the pro-Trump narrative and love finding ways of making it a reality, even to the point of using this wobble to say Trump is right about her health. I hate the spin that today made this a "real issue" for the race. It became a real issue when the media reported on it endlessly. It became a reality even if Clinton had spent the whole campaign running a marathon. I think she made a mistake with how she handled this, but it doesn't even matter. She's damned by a Trump-loving media no matter what.
  15. I know. His story in particular is always something that just got short blurbs. Watching The Doctors episodes and finding details that no books or magazines had ever mentioned was a real eye-opener.
  16. The cast list for the clip (what the uploader wrote) lists them both with the last name "McKenzie." So maybe that was his real name? Last name, anyway. I never knew he was involved with Marcy or that their stories were intertwined.
  17. That would be lovely. Everything with pre-Dingle Emmerdale is always a treat. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rOQNJpXCKVQ It's not much of an exit for a character who'd been on the show nearly 15 years, but at least she left with her dignity, and she left alive, which makes the producers more respectful than Gavin Blyth was with Deena Payne. It's a shame it's so rushed - I didn't even realize the last one was her last until they mentioned her leaving as a thing of the past in the next episode. I like that she called the Tates out for what they are and what they wouldn't reveal themselves to fully be until a few years after this. It's kind of sad because in a sense she left one family (the Sugdens) for another (the Tates) but was never truly a part of either. It's only in watching August that I realize what a busy and foreboding month it was. Bill Whiteley's funeral (with myriad foreshadowing - unintentional but still hard to watch - of Archie's own death), Henry's final appearances before Arthur Pentelow's death, Kate's depressing wrapup story, Dolly's exit. And the odd offcamera exit of Kathy's vicar boyfriend Tony Charlton. I wonder if something happened with the actor.
  18. He never meant for Tiffany to die, and her death haunted him. Grant is a selfish and at times very nasty and dangerous man, but he's never been the monster that Phil is. He's always been nuanced. It's one of the reasons why the scenes of Sharon demanding Mark not know the truth because Grant is so toxic and abusive made no real sense, especially when there was no evidence he'd been that way in the last 20 years. It was all false, cheap melodrama. The ending of the story - with Grant realizing he needed to step back and Mark realizing the truth but deciding to stay with the life he knew - was probably the best it could have gone (for me anyway) and I have to wonder if that was the original plan. Thursday and Friday had a number of scenes that did not feel like the original plan for me - chief among them Jay's exit (I'm about 70% sure he was going to be written out for good when he went out with Ben, and the bizarre sprint on Tuesday/nonrole on Thursday/quick exit on Friday are cover for him not being in the scripts for a while). I really wish they'd never touched this story. The bizarre and bewildering rewrites of Michelle that, among other things, claimed she constantly talked trash about Grant (even though she spent 20 years desperate for no one to know he was the father of her son), were cheap and just reflected DTC's overall contempt for women. And until a few scenes at the end, Mark was a creepy, generic cipher. I know a lot of people felt Kemp was wooden, but I thought when given the chance he was more than decent enough. Most of his return scripts were crap. The last two days, he had decent scripts, and he rose to the occasion. I doubt we'll see him again, but with better material and a longer stint, he'd likely add to the show. My eyes went all the way back in my head when Ben offered to give his abuser part of his liver. The show will never stop trying to sell Phil as a loving father - without ever actually showing us this - and I will never, ever buy it. Ben saying he would miss "yelling and winding [him] up" made no sense, as we have never seen that. Unless he means the loving dad moments where he called Ben a queer. The funeral was never going to be what it should have been as most of the Coker grieving was offcamera, but still, they missed an opportunity not showing Ben's speech. It made his feelings seem more hollow (not for the first time). Colin's return was very PSA-ish, and I wish they'd had him interact with Sharon, but at least he was happy and had had a good life. I'd assumed he was long dead. Colin was always one of my favorites so I can't really complain.
  19. Another lovely Trump supporter. Get her a job on CNN - they'll lap it up. http://talkingpointsmemo.com/edblog/crazed-trumper-assaults-muslim-women-in-brooklyn
  20. It was written by Irna Philips and Bill Bell and it definitely has their hallmarks. Milette was mostly on ATWT, right? Was she the woman with lupus? Was this the only time she was on here? Does anyone remember if the Eldridges mentioned the sister Eve in the Scott story in 1992? I never knew about her.
