She certainly did change politics and the role of women in conservative politics. The bitter irony in her life must have been having a (supposedly) gay son...that and most of what she fought against the ERA for happening anyway. I guess you could say she kept her principles, unlike many in that movement, but I feel for those who paid the price for those principles.

EastEnders: Discussion Thread
That last one is a bunch of bullshit. It's absurd enough that she would write Peggy (a woman she hated) a letter about Mark, let alone spend years telling Mark what a terrible man Grant was. She would never talk to him about Grant because she didn't want him to know who his father was. And wouldn't Sharon be angry that Michelle spent decades trashing Grant when she knew that she had his baby? Oh wait, we can't have Sharon do or say anything of value. The whole thing was lacking in any energy or believability, from the casting of the thugs to the home invasion scenes, to the laughable bit where Grant got into it with "Mark Fowler Jr." The Denise pregnancy (hate this story) scenes also felt lifeless and endless, and I hate seeing Claudette and Patrick loved up in Dot's living room after what she did to Fatboy. The execution of this episode just sucked. If you're going to do this at least have some sense of danger.

I would have thought so - her first maternity leave, she left in March and came back around October. This one - she aired into the very start of January; they're filming into October and I haven't heard of her coming back yet.

NBA you may enjoy this - it's an article on Mike Parr's charity event. There's a video interview with Mike, Gemma Atkinson and Michelle Hardwick. http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/showbiz-news/emmerdale-mike-parr-everest-atkinson-11839443

Politico decided to feature a particularly vicious op-ed of Fooliani, complete with a horrifying ugly photo and a great deal of personal comments. I love it. http://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2016/09/rudy-giuliani-donald-trump-2016-214207

Every time I see yet another article seriously claiming that he wants to reach out to minority voters and that he is actually softening his tone on immigration, I'm more convinced they want him to win. His Brietbart campaign team must be loving it. They could have him say he's going to deport every person in the US who doesn't have white skin, and then have him say, "I'd feel a little bad about it," and the headlines would be, "Trump shows regret for immigration struggles."

An article about how hard the press is working to make the Clinton Foundation a scandal. They don't seem to think the press is deliberately trying to help Trump win, but many commenters disagree, as do I. http://washingtonmonthly.com/2016/09/02/how-the-press-is-making-the-clinton-foundation-into-the-new-benghazi/

Yeah but who would the others be? Johnny? Lee is gone soon. There is no other young male adults in their bracket unless Mark is long-term. I figure they may bring more in. Beyond Johnny, I'd say Kush (although he's about 10 years older than they are), or they could bring back Liam.

I think Dorothy is a decent name, as it was the name of Ashley's mother and her death made him much of what he was for the rest of his life. I don't care for "Dotty" though. It reminds me of odious Dotty Cotton. Ashley would have been a little too morbid for me.

I always remember the comments from unnamed people when Megyn Kelly did the infamous humiliation of Karl Rove via walking to the election room, where they said it worked out because viewers got good shots of her legs. I wonder now if that was Ailes.

That would make sense (and if they don't just want two characters for a set, a few other guys could move in), but sense and EE are rare these days.

EastEnders: Discussion Thread
With Linda going, Mick possibly going with her for a while, Lee going, there aren't too many left. The problem is the worst are wretched (Babe). She needs to go ASAP, and the Carters need to leave the Vic. After that I don't mind if they stay, even if Dyer's ego needs checking. The only parts I had any interest in were the Mitchells (aside from Sharon, who is oblivious and sad as always now) clocking Phil time and time again about Jay. He hated it, because he couldn't do anything about it. He's at his weakest state and his family aren't putting up with his ego trips anymore. I don't even want Jay in that house, I want him with Billy and Honey or in a place of his own, but I was happy to see Phil feel so small. Of course it couldn't last, and we got that silly BOOM! PAM! POW! audio bit at the end. That scene could have worked but not the way it was done. Harry Reid's done well the last few weeks but hearing him shout "Oi!" isn't exactly frightening.

Coronation Street: Discussion Thread
Bring in some type of supermarket chain or turn it into a community center that could give a lot of characters stories of their own. If the show tried it might work. They've managed to make the gym work out passably well, which most soaps do not. Billy would fit in well there, among others. I read that Steve threatened to kick Liz out of the pub. If only. Send her tired ass back to Spain. If I thought this story would bring back the hard edge in Steve that Karen and every woman since robbed him of, then I'd be happier, but I don't think Simon Gregson can play that Steve anymore.

The clips of that are on the channel too. Sadly they aren't very good - you can see why the show was collapsing at this time.

EastEnders: Discussion Thread
Next week is going to be an absolute slog to get through. I want this gesticulated Mark story to be over with the quickness. I do not care. I do not want $200. Lots of kinky shots of Ben and Jay tied up would probably be the sole value, and I don't even expect that, sadly. Mark is creepy, boring, and weird. He also looks 25-30, like Louise. I don't understand the casting for young people on this show. I haven't in some time. This is one of the laziest, tackiest, and most pointless stories in EE history. Yes. Hilariously, apparently the soap person on This Morning had to make it clear yesterday that this is NOT the new producer - I guess because people were not thrilled. His material will start kicking in next week.

Coronation Street: Discussion Thread
I don't mind Craig. The actor isn't that good, but he has a lot of heart, which is missing in much of an increasingly sour Corrie. I will say that it makes it laugh that Beth is opposed to criminals but is friends with Tracy. I have a soft spot for Tracy, but really now. I saw a bit of that woeful "strike" story that managed to make everyone involved look like even bigger assholes than usual (no mean feat) and I'm reminded again of how out of date Corrie is and how much that factory - and most of the people who work in it - need to go. I can't watch any of that baby story but I read that Liz was badmouthing Janice and Leanne told her to shut up. I'm glad I missed that. Janice was one of Corrie's best and if I have to hear that tired old whore with the limp poodle hair say a word about her I would drop a house on her.

Thanks. That was an interesting article. It sounds like they unwittingly did Faux News a favor. Still, at least a light was shone on that vile place.- EastEnders: Discussion Thread
I just hope it was Nitin's choice to leave and they didn't give him a push. They wasted and degraded him this year, but Masood still had something to offer if given the chance. I'm mostly concerned that we are hearing nothing about the worst characters leaving.- EastEnders: Discussion Thread
Not much of a surprise, but I'll miss Masood, even after spending most of the year chasing after worthless child-woman Carmel. http://www.radiotimes.com/news/2016-09-02/eastenders-star-nitin-ganatra-to-leave-masood-ahmed-role - Santa Barbara Discussion Thread
