  1. I think they must be involved in something. I hadn't thought about it but the bridge and the train will be affected by the explosion and crash, surely. Sharon Marshall already pretty much said the baby won't be put up for adoption so now it's just down to the show coming up with a contrived reason. It's going to piss me off.
  2. I don't think she will be as they were too obvious, but I have a feeling as some have speculated that nasty Keegan will die or nearly die, and will tell Denise he was in care, and this will convince her to keep the baby. I just dread the inevitable reconciliation with Kim, who has become unbearable. I hope Denise dropkicks her out the front door. Other than the bad explosion and the scene of the kids "crashing" I thought it was done OK - I liked the POV of the windshield and the people running around. But the market conflicts leading up to it felt so tired and I did not like most of the episode. I am sick to death of Kim and I'm sick of the nasty teens and I'm really sick of how childish and deluded Whitney is and how many times she runs to Mick to complain about Lee. This story was so good a few months ago and now it's just a boring love triangle with a spoilt princess. They've just ruined her. The scenes with Jay and Billy and the scenes with Shirley, Tina and Sylvie going for a photo were the only ones I enjoyed. Ratings.
  3. Comey behaved so erratically last year it makes me wonder what's really going on there. I hope that's more of a concern for them than Trump being narcissistic in front of their wall.
  4. He cares too much about having people in his administration pitted against each other. I remember reading an article a few years ago about the man who basically bankrupted Sears (was it Sears?) and how he had the same mentality. He thought this was a way to drive up business. I'm surprised he wasn't hired by Trump...
  5. So much about her, especially this, is what SNL would have excelled at lampooning decades ago. Now they just take cheap shots at a child. Speaking of Conway, this talks about her integral role in Trumpland and about so many other meltdowns in the last few days (sorry if this was already posted): https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/the-first-days-inside-trumps-white-house-fury-tumult-and-a-reboot/2017/01/23/7ceef1b0-e191-11e6-ba11-63c4b4fb5a63_story.html?utm_term=.48b7f1a2f321
  6. Then if we're all here (which sadly I don't even know if we will be...) in a year, I'll agree, but it's tough for me to forget about 9/11, Iraq, Katrina, etc. this soon. W put on a better public face than Trump, but his team were the ones who essentially took millions to slaughter for a PR exercise and for Cheney's friends. They were also fueled by ignorance and peddled ignorance. The biggest difference is that a few months in, Jim Jeffords left the GOP, which meant a tied Senate, and a roadblock to some (sadly not near enough) of the plans of Rove and company. That won't happen here.

  8. There are a lot of people out there who might disagree if they were still breathing.
  9. For future GOP chaos it seems to always be a good idea to follow Rebekah Mercer, who played a big part in helping Trump win and is now close to splitting off again: http://www.politico.com/story/2017/01/trump-rebekah-mercer-robert-mercer-donors-234030

  11. Ryan Phillippe talks a bit about the importance of his OLTL role.
  12. wrong thread
  13. https://newrepublic.com/article/139792/will-miss-obama-as-dad Reading the mentions of Reagan reminds me again of what Trump doesn't get about appearances (even after decades cultivating publicity). Reagan did so much damage to the public reputation of the CIA, yet people still remember him because he said the right things. I guess the best they can hope for is that he stays out of their way.
  14. You can even see her looking right at the camera when she goes "what was the word saying" She should be a lot better at this
  15. So it's going to be the same old stuff from the campaign, probably including regularly dumping people from his "team." I guess that Corey guy will get a call soon. Newsmax is a cesspit. Why am I not surprised he's friends with Trump.
  16. He feeds on people hating him. He sees them as jealous. It's likely being bored that will get to him more than anything else. And having to make difficult decisions. I just wish I had any trust in the people who will be making the decisions for him.
  17. It's possible to acknowledge that people like Madonna, Michael Moore, etc. don't really help their cause due to their need to make it about themselves (I respect her music but not her political involvement - she did this same thing during the Iraq invasion and that too overshadowed serious protests and criticisms) while also acknowledging the march itself. Media coverage by and large is useless tabloid trash, or scared of its own shadow (or Trump's shadow). Most people ignore it and form easy conclusions. And Madonna talking about blowing up the White House is an easy conclusion, and yes, it gets coverage. The people who see any protests of this kind as elitism or as an attack are going to no matter what, but I don't know why some are so happy to make it easier for them. If we're being practical, then we can say that talking about the futility of celebrity vanity projects being a lead in anti-Trump movements when that same concept is one of the things that helped him win the election in the first place doesn't mean we're "compromising" the march or its effect. The media doesn't care. Trump only cares enough to spin it to make himself look like a martyr or some warrior. So it's left to use these events to bring energy for causes and help people in red and purple states try to turn the tide, and so on. And I do believe the march has already accomplished this. But I also believe giving a microphone to narcissistic dim bulbs or contemplating returning to the idea that if pop culture loves us, then we must be in the right and everything will go our way, is a very self-defeating concept. I still remember how many people were sure this meant W had to lose in 2004 and how blindsided they were that Eminem going on SNL and telling people to vote, etc. etc. didn't get Kerry elected. I think people have opened their eyes since then about the double-edged sword of clinging to showbiz, but then when they didn't last year I started to reassess my view. Of course most of the focus wasn't on that from the people who went there, and of course it's not going to cause huge opinion changes as everyone is already pretty polarized as it is, but if you don't think it overshadows any of the message, then we're just going to have to agree to disagree.

  19. Even some of the people I know who are totally supportive of the march talked more about Madonna saying stupid things than the rest, but I'm glad if that isn't the case for everyone. Michael Moore always seems like a ponderous phony to me, like Bill Maher. Kudos to Ashley Judd for not letting him make it all about himself yet again.
  20. When celebrities put themselves out front, they get the attention, and most of them are happy to do that, and to act like morons. More people will remember Madonna cursing than remember most of the rest from yesterday. You think about the marches of the '60s and how actors genuinely did their best to lend what support and credibility they could without making it all about their myriad attention-seeking issues, and you wonder where those ideals are today.
  21. The part about the anti-American protests in the Philippines, even as their president likes Trump (for the minute, anyway), is the reverse of how things were there a few months ago. I guess it will make their politics more interesting... It seems like German leaders like to put focus on how they're stepping in to a void left behind by the US. The question is how many in Germany actually want that to be the case.
  22. I think the second one is a bit tacky, but harmless. The others don't mean anything. I guess because she's well known (and Republicans love Modern Family, apparently), she gets more heat. It still amazes me sometimes to think that 1993 was supposed to be a more civilized time yet people still mostly laughed or looked away when Limbaugh would call her a dog. Sadly I wasn't surprised by the comments about Sasha and Malia, or Michelle. The only thing I was surprised by was that the media and the GOP's efforts to make people hate Michelle Obama or make her a divisive, toxic figure never really took hold. She had to put herself in a box, but even in the last year, when she was finally more like the Michelle I remembered from 2008, people still liked her. Maybe sometimes not everything in America always has to go backward.
  23. That was an SNL writer. Yet another reason why SNL should be consigned to the dustbin. There's a reason why people say showbiz is out of touch, and they get more out of touch every year. This is just stupid [!@#$%^&*] that anyone with a brain in their head would avoid. Some people were also upset about Julie Bowen but all I saw was her saying he was on his Gameboy. Unless there was more I don't think that's a big deal...
