  2. I'd say the courts would block that but it seems like that doesn't matter anymore...
  3. In theory I agree, but honestly at this point it doesn't matter if Democrats say no to everything - they aren't in power. They aren't going to win most fights. The confirmation battle over Betsy DeVos, where she is thisclose to being the first nominee rejected by a President's party in Congress since 1925, shows what happens when battles are picked IMO. To me Gorsuch isn't worth the distraction when so much worse is here and is coming. But that's just me.
  4. He is a deeply disturbed man - he seems to need to punish and hurt people in a way that is pathological. This is something that many were mocked for when they tried to point it out during the election. I wish that voters had listened.
  5. In this case I think it would be a mistake because they would use it as an opportunity to nuke the filibuster, something McConnell clearly doesn't want to do (likely because he knows Republicans will be in the minority again at some point, especially if Trump continues to cause such chaos).
  6. In this case I'm not sure if Gorsuch is any different as a nominee than someone a less insane President like W would have chosen. He chose, essentially, a Scalia replacement, who seems well-respected enough. W chose someone who was as conservative as Rehnquist, just in a different way, and then chose someone (Alito) significantly to the right of Sandra Day O'Connor. I don't see how Democrats can stop him, and I'm not sure it's worth the battle in this particular case. I'd rather save the filibuster for something worse coming down the line.
  7. I wouldn't be too sure about Ted Cruz, especially based on his father.

  9. This is so upsetting - it's just awful. And again it shows how many won't listen to what someone says. They will always think it doesn't apply to them. It does. And if it doesn't today, it will tomorrow. Anyway, if you want a palate cleanser, this is an interesting piece on the feud between ex-British PM Cameron and the editor of the Daily Mail, which likely helped push the tides toward Brexit. (I can't help wondering how relieved Cameron must now be to be out of there after the way Theresa May has to embarrass herself with our dear leader) http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-38816692
  10. http://www.politico.com/story/2017/01/scaramucci-trump-white-house-234462 More bizarre infighting.
  11. A Martinez overacts this but Sherilyn Wolter is mesmerizing. It's a shame they didn't do more with her - or that no other soap snapped her up.
  12. CNN has been empty and pandering for many years. I think Ted Turner has even said as much. I remember tuning in for their Iraq invasion coverage in 2003 and quickly noticing it was nothing more than Aaron Brown taking off his glasses 500 times to show us how Serious and Important the matter was. No mention of actual issues. Then there was their coverage of the BLM protests and the conflict with cops, which amounted to Don Lemon saying the place must stink of weed. I will never praise any of the cable news outlets or most of the press for ever stumbling onto any truth. Too little too late. The only reason they say a peep is because Trump doesn't pat them on the head the way W and McCain often did. And they are doing absolutely nothing to help anyone at this point. They are just doing what they do best - putter in impotent self-important outrage while waiting for the next shiny object.
  13. I can't see him wanting to be tied down to such a prominent role that takes so much time out of a year. I remember the rumors that Capaldi would definitely be replaced by a piece of ass, so that's what I'm expecting. If that is their criteria I think it will be a mistake, because if they are chasing the audience who watch to see whether the hunky young Doctor will kiss his sexy young companion - most of them aren't going to come back to a show that's been on for a decade. I don't think Moffat would cast based on that criteria, but I'm not sure which way Chibnall will go. Anyway, I feel for Capaldi as I think he was a better Doctor than he was given credit for, and I hope he wanted to leave and wasn't forced out.
  14. Thank you dc (and dan) for so many rich details. I had no idea Perry Stephens was fired. Given wh othey replaced him with, what a silly decision. Do you know how long past that June episode Roya left? Killing off Dinah Lee would have been a much better decision than killing Janie. Too bad they backed out.
  15. This type of thing will poison Congressional Republicans against Trump faster than anything. http://www.politico.com/story/2017/01/trump-immigration-congress-order-234392
  16. At this point SNL is just out of business.
  17. That was hilarious. Maybe I'm just desperate for amusement. The great white hope breaks out of Riverdale. Considering who we have in the White House and that the most popular VP America had in decades both don't seem to care about profanity, maybe we'll finally get past the usual tedious pearl-clutching over naughty words. Of course if a Democratic speaker had said that he'd be expelled from the House...
  18. What gets me with this stuff is they never did care when it was obvious people were staging protests for the GOP and doing other bad performance art (remember the man who would go around with a protest sign he ripped up and a crying child to go along with it?).
  19. http://talkingpointsmemo.com/livewire/david-brat-paid-protesters-in-grill-obamacare-repeal This may be the most cringeworthy story of the week...or the next hour, anyway. “Since Obamacare and these issues have come up, the women are in my grill no matter where I go,” Brat said at a Saturday event, according to the Richmond Times-Dispatch. - “I had one woman on my Facebook say she was going to get up in my grill,” he said. “There’s paid protesters...paid activists on the far left, not my Democratic friends I go to church with.”
  20. I love how they keep repeating the same lines over and over...almost as much as I love those ridiculous high-waisted jeans on Michael Weatherly and PAS. And all those turns from the ghost like she's lost on Falcon Crest... Who is the woman with Geyhart and "Sage" (or Stage)? Oh [!@#$%^&*] that's Ally. Sometimes I forget how different Laura Wright looked early on. Those tight closeups when she goes from one character to another make her look like she had a bad nose job... For anyone who wants to see a bit more of that time period and hasn't already seen these clips around. This episode has some of the gaslighting story with Stacey.
  21. Perry Stephens left the role in 1990 or 1991, to be replaced by Christopher Cass. I guess Cass wasn't as popular. When Jack was written out in 1992 or so I think the door was left open, but he was presumed dead. That could be a possibility, but I'm not sure. Minnie was mostly a counsel to Egypt, a schemer who had a secret past marriage to Alex Masters (it was this that led viewers to learn "Clay" was a con, I believe). Minnie stayed with Egypt through the time that the truth came out, Alex fell from grace, went through a recast and eventually got back together with Egypt. She had a big role at the hot spot Curtis Alden and Egypt's brother opened in mid-1989 (a lot of those clips are on YT). I think she was written out around 1990 or so, although she may have popped up again briefly with another actress during Egypt's 1993 or 1994 appearances. Thanks. I'd never seen those Geyheart clips.
  22. Other than Bannon, and maybe Kellyanne Conway, everyone in Trumpworld seems to just be pawns or hapless bystanders. I do think that his daughter and SIL might have some influence, but when you see those bizarre articles about how Kushner is going to bring peace to the Middle East, you know it's more delusion from on high. The danger of Trump has always been how many thought he could be managed, he would change. That he is a reasonable person putting on a show. I've thought that myself a few times. But it clearly just isn't true.
