Degrassi: The Next Generation
I've been itching to get back into Degrassi for months now, and I'm tardily realizing that The-N still posts the new episodes on their site. I skimmed through a few this morning, and I do have to say that the show looks and feels a lot like the glory years again. I can NOT deal, however, with Alli being smart/bookish. The Tristan heart attack story was sad and awkward but so true to life. Fab wasn't even that cute.

What Are You Listening To?
I've been geeking out over my old high school band days, lately, listening to various tunes that my school and others would play... We'd play this going into pep rallies and whenever our football team was playing offense. Just the sound of this in my community gets people hyped up. Go braves!!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L_vpfblTqng Another school, not necessarily a rival -- because we always did get along (and often had flirted with each other -- ah, good ol' band days) -- played this because their mascot was Trojans, and they'd have some random bitch on a horse riding across the field at the beginning of each home game. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uUHMrGx_jG0

Unsung
Looking at the episode guide on the show's Wiki page, it's amazing to me how many of these "unsung" talents contributed to the soundtrack of my childhood than the usual big names. Con Funk Shun ("Loooong night. Caaaan't sleep. Toooo worried toooo eat. Gotta call'a up. Diiiiiial that nuuuuuumber, and nooooo one aaaaaanswers til two'a'clock."), Angela Winbush ("If anythiiiiing I'd miss, I never could resist your smiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiile."), Heatwave ("Always and foreverrrr, each moment with youuuu feels like a dream to meeee that somehow came truuuue."), Teddy Pendergass ("It's soooooo good loving somebody and that somebody loves you back! Said not 60/40, not 20/80...talkin' 'bout 50/50 looove."), etc. Besides Betty, they need to get to work on episodes about the Brothers Johnson, Tyrone Davis, First Choice, The Emotions, Loleatta Holloway. Also, maybe an episode where they profile several of the one/two-hit wonders from the 70s like Shirley Brown, Dorothy Moore, Jean Knight, Barbara Mason, Lenny Williams, Luther Ingram, etc.

Unsung
I watched a bunch of episodes on YouTube back-to-back-to-back on a Sunday afternoon about a year and a half ago, and I absolutely loved them. My faves were Tammi Terrell, Shalamar, Evelyn Champagne King, Deniece Williams, Rose Royce, Heatwave, and Sylvester. ECK, if I remember right, went through some bad things, but she was such a vibrant, fun personality all throughout the episode, still can sing well, and she even performs with her husband. Definitely a happy ending. The Rose Royce episode was SO sad, and nobody died. It was just all about how the guys all got together first, then their label put Gwen Dickey in as the "face" of the group, and the guys all resented her and treated her like sh!t because they were jealous. She left the group and, even though she's proud of the work she did with them, she's basically chosen to rise above them and not have anything to do with them anymore. The Shalamar ep bugged me a bit. They all acknowledged that they were pretty young and stupid with their money and fame, but it seemed like they still stood by some of their stupidity, especially Howard Hewitt. And that sucka said he hated disco! And Tammi Terrell...just tragic I NEED to see the Millie episode. That's my girl! And they need to make a Betty Wright episode.

I WANT HIM SO, SO, SO MUCH!!!! I believe AshBash (original Mac on Y&R) left the show to pursue education, so I guess it's safe to say she's through with acting. David Lago is probably playing naked bongos on a treetop somewhere.

MARGO!!! On a regular basis, I am desperately searching for as much as a two-second clip of Margo. She's the AMC character I most want to see more of, and I will not stop until I get some!! When you say they used a new version of the theme on that one episode, are you referring to the premiere of the arrangement they'd end up using throughout the rest of the 70s and through the 80s, or was it a short-lived arrangement that's been lost? I seem to recall WoST having two short arrangements of the classic theme that haven't shown up anywhere else.

Coronation Street: Discussion Thread
YES, please listen to Carl. I don't want to be too vocal about it, but it's incredibly easy to find tons of episodes from the 60s-90s, when this show had life and character and an effect unlike other soaps.

Coronation Street: Discussion Thread
Emmerdale, which also airs on ITV (Corrie's network), airs every week night (twice on Thursdays), so there wouldn't be much room for Corrie to air every night without it having to go up against EastEnders. At least, that's what I've always assumed is the reason why they do the double episodes. Here is the current schedule of English nighttime soaps: Monday 6:30pm: Hollyoaks (CH4) 7:00pm: Emmerdale (ITV) 7:30pm: Coronation Street 1 (ITV) 8:00pm: EastEnders (BBC) 8:30pm: Coronation Street 2 (ITV) Tuesday 6:30pm: Hollyoaks (CH4) 7:00pm: Emmerdale (ITV) 7:30pm: EastEnders (BBC) Wednesday 6:30pm: Hollyoaks (CH4) 7:00pm: Emmerdale (ITV) 7:30pm: Coronation Street (ITV) Thursday 6:30pm: Hollyoaks (CH4) 7:00pm: Emmerdale (ITV) 7:30pm: EastEnders (BBC) 8:00pm: Emmerdale (ITV) Friday 6:30pm: Hollyoaks (CH4) 7:00pm: Emmerdale (ITV) 7:30pm: Coronation Street (ITV) 8:00pm: EastEnders (BBC) 8:30pm: Coronation Street (ITV)

Coronation Street: Discussion Thread
Corrie airs five 30-minute episodes a week: two on Mondays, one on Wednesdays, and two on Fridays. The Mon/Fri episodes usually air a half-hour or so apart. Sometimes there are special hour-long episodes.

And she fell on her ass as SOON as she got out the car! I remember the camera followed Andrew Firestone as he got up, then comically panned back to her on the ground. Hilarious.

Ratings from the 70's
I think it was AMC. It was ABC's top soap for most of the 70s and 1977-1978 was a season before its peak above all soaps.

I think Dara was the same the age as the others (maybe a few years older), but we all know those girls who are our contemporaries who just seem to be 'bout fawty-a-fitty years old.

Didn't VH1 air I Love Money 3 at some point? They didn't advertise it at all and I believe they actually aired it once a week in a late-late night timeslot, but they did eventually air it.
