If you ask me, it's pretty simple. GH has no story for Maria. GH has story for Blaze's mom. Beautiful, a solid actress, right ethnicity, what's not to love?!

They could have had Blaze turn out to be (potentially de-aged) Maddie, with Eva playing Maria. This is a soap opera. We accept people being killed off on screen or even with their heads chopped off ("Soap Dish" reference). They could have done it if they wanted to.

  2. Eva LaRue, All My Children, Dr. Maria Santos Grey, Natalie Rogers-Ramirez, General Hospital, GH, GH ABC, #GH, #GeneralHospital

Nearly 13 years since the cancellation of “All My Children,” fan favorite Eva LaRue is returning to ABC, this time playing a new character on “General Hospital.”

According to TVLine, which first reported the news, LaRue is set to hit Port Charles, where she’ll appear as Natalia Rogers-Ramirez, Blaze’s (Jacqueline Grace Lopez) mother, starting with the Monday, February 26 episode of the daytime drama series. The outlet shared a first look photo of LaRue shown in a scene from her debut episode, which you can view here.

Jacqueline Grace Lopez, Kate Mansi, Alison Rogers, Blaze, Kristina Davis, General Hospital, GH, GH ABC, #GH, #GeneralHospital

    Christine Bartolucci/Disney

On the show, Blaze is adjusting to her feelings for Kristina (Kate Mansi) where she’s embracing being an out pair after spending much of her life in the closet due to fear over how her sexuality might negatively impact her career and how her family would react to learning about her same-sex attraction.

LaRue’s casting will see the actress reuniting with some of her former “All My Children” castmates, including Cameron Mathison (ex-Ryan Lavery), who now plays Drew Cain on “General Hospital,” and Michael E. Knight (ex-Tad Martin), who plays Martin Grey on ABC’s 60-year-old soap opera.

Portraying Dr. Maria Santos Grey on “All My Children” off and on for 18 years, LaRue joined the cast of “The Young and the Restless” from 2019-2020 and played Celeste Rosales, the matriarch of the Rosales family. The role won her a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Performer in a Drama Series during “The 47th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards.” LaRue was previously nominated two other times, first for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for her portrayal of Maria on “All My Children” in 1997 and again in 2004 for Outstanding Original Song for the song “Dance Again With You.”

Outside of soaps, LaRue is probably best known for her seven season run as Natalia Boa Vista on “CSI: Miami,” as Linda Lorenzo on “George Lopez” or playing Carmen in the UPN comedy “Head Over Heels,” among other roles.

LaRue made a name for herself in 1988 when she joined the cast of NBC’s “Santa Barbara” as Margot Collins, which had Patrick Mulcahey as one of its writers at the time. Mulcahey was recently named co-head writer of “General Hospital,” working alongside veteran writer Elizabeth Korte, who has been with the show since 1994 in various positions ever since, including her most recent role as script editor and the show’s historian.

  3. While I agree that this is nothing new in terms of shows hiring former soap stars who are well-known or playing a certain character on another soap, I do think hiring these people to play new characters on GH is rather confusing. They had no problem having Jackson Montgomery or Blair Cramer on last year but are still creating new characters for people who the audience would most associate with their previous soap roles, like Cameron Mathison as Drew Cain, Michael E. Knight as Martin Grey and now Eva LaRue as this Natalia Rogers-Ramirez. Why choose to do it for some but not for all? That's annoying, IMO.

  4. General Hospital, General Hospital: 60th Anniversary, GH, GH60, GH ABC, #GH, #GH60, #GeneralHospital,

During ABC’s presentation at this past weekend’s Winter Television Critics Association Press Tour in Pasadena, California, Craig Erwich, President, Disney Television Group, overseeing content strategy across ABC Entertainment, Disney Branded Television, Freeform and Hulu Originals programming, shared some of his thoughts on “General Hospital” and what the show means to the network.

Calling the show “a tremendous pride” for the network, Erwich spoke with journalist Michael Maloney from Soap Hub, saying, “The show’s been on for 60 years. That is a remarkable achievement. And the great thing about ‘General Hospital’ is that it’s on daily. It’s an opportunity for us to delight, entertain, and surprise people on a daily basis. The joy is to have an audience who has watched the show for 60 years; they’re now watching with their kids and grandkids.”

Craig Erwich, Preseident, Disney Television Group, Disney, ABC, Hulu, Freeform
    Craig Erwich
    Austin Hargrave/Hulu

“Because the stories are on, on a daily basis, they just become a part of people’s lives — and that’s the goal of ABC,” Erwich further noted to Maloney. “We’re very committed to the show. You saw the way that we celebrated the 60th [anniversary]. We do that because it’s a show we’re very proud of. We remain deeply committed to ‘General Hospital.’”

In addition to oversight of Hulu and ABC Entertainment, Erwich assumed oversight of linear programming for Disney Branded Television and Freeform in February 2023, with the former encompassing content targeted for Disney+, Disney Channel, Disney XD and Disney Junior.

In December, “General Hospital” took home its 16th Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Daytime Drama Series during “The 50th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards” telecast on CBS. That same evening, after congratulating the show’s cast and crew for setting another record, Nathan Varni, the ABC Current Series Executive in charge of production for the daytime drama series, tweeted, “My 2024 goal is to win back our lapsed viewers, we have a lot of work to do but we’re all ready to work hard for YOU!” Less than a month later, the show replaced co-head writers Chris Van Etten and Dan O’Connor, following several weeks of the show hitting record lows in the key Women 18-49 demographic and several weeks where the show found itself viewed by less than two million viewers.

Replacing Van Etten and O’Connor, whose scripts will air into March, is Patrick Mulcahey, who is returning to the fold as co-head writer working alongside veteran writer Elizabeth Korte, who has been with the show since 1994 various positions ever since, including her most recent role as script editor and the show’s historian.

Mulcahey’s writing career began in 1979 as a scriptwriter for the series “Texas.” He joined the writing team of “The Bold and the Beautiful” in 2005 and worked as a scriptwriter and story consultant until 2019.

That episode averaged 1.03 million viewers and a 0.70 rating among Households.

Answering “yes” when asked by Hudson if he was dating somebody, Common noted, “I’m in a relationship that is [with] one of the most beautiful people I ever met in life. She’s smart, loves God, and has something real down to earth about her.” He added more specific details, including “She’s talented… I set my standard kind of high because she’s got to have an EGOT [Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony]; she had to win an Oscar for her first movie. I set my standard high, she got to have her own talk show.”

Now in its second season, “The Jennifer Hudson Show” is said to have amassed 17.2 million unique viewers to date, with its current season marking a +14% increase over the year ago period among Adults 18-34, making it the only nationally syndicated talk show to see an uptick in the key sales demographic while also maintaining its previous season average among the key Women 18-34 demographic, according to figures released by Nielsen.

“General Hospital” alum Kimberly McCullough (ex-Robin Scorpio-Drake) has signed on to direct the coming-of-age dramedy “Wayward Girls,” a live-action film for Available Light Productions, which is run by kids programming vet Nancy Kanter.

Kanter, who is fresh off of a three-year overall deal at Netflix, is relaunching her company with several projects in the works, including the live-action “Wayward Girls,” the animated movie “Penny Phantom,” which is based on the novel “Little Thieves” by Margaret Owen; the animated movie “The Circus Ship,” based on the picture book of the same name; and the animated preschool comedy series “Alexander the Post Fox” working in partnership with Kevin Jonas.

“My time at Netflix was a gift that allowed me to extend my creative development beyond Kids & Family, and while those projects will always be closest to my heart, I am excited to see some of my YA and adult projects move forward,” said Kanter in a statement released to Deadline, which first reported the news. “I leave having had the great pleasure of working alongside so many talented folks on the live-action and animation teams, and I couldn’t be more grateful for their support. I look forward to landing new series and movies in just the right homes and continuing to develop material that speaks to me and to broad audiences in surprising and authentic ways.”

According to Deadline, Available Light Productions has a robust slate of original series and movies, which Kanter is spearheading with head of development William Goldberg, with the expectation to take out in-development projects and broaden their reach among kids, families and general audiences.

McCullough will direct from an original screenplay by Kristin Belka Maier.

Since departing “General Hospital” as a full-time cast member in 2013, McCullough has made sporadic returns to the series, taking part in key story moments involving her character, specifically the character’s friends and family. She’s been directing several high-profile projects in Hollywood since, including episodes of “K.C. Undercover,” “Pretty Little Liars,” “Fuller House,” “The Conners,” “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia,” “The Bold Type,” “Fantasy Island,” and more recently “High School Music: The Musical: The Series” for Disney+.

McCullough directed 14 out of 38 episodes of the TV series spinoff of “High School Musical,” more than any other director, and also served in multiple capacities as a producer, including as an executive producer or co-executive producer during the show’s third and fourth (final) seasons.

Other high-profile projects directed by McCullough include “With Love” for Amazon, “How I Met Your Father” for Hulu,” along with “Boo, Bitch” and “Neon” for Netflix, among others.

“The Talk” will be fully preempted on all six days with “UEFA Champions League Today,” a pre-game show providing viewers with news and highlights from the UEFA Champions League, airing in its place at 2:00 p.m. ET/11:00 a.m. PT (“The Talk” airs at 1:00 p.m. PT). Starting at 3:00 p.m. ET/12:00 p.m. PT, CBS will air “UEFA Champions League Soccer.”

On the West Coast (Mountain and Pacific Time Zones), “The Young and the Restless” and “The Bold and the Beautiful” will be preempted as the network is carrying games live coast to coast. Viewers living in markets impacted by the preemptions can keep up with the latest happenings on both soaps as episodes will be made available on the CBS App, CBS.com and Paramount+.

Except in markets where “Let’s Make a Deal” airs after “The Talk,” CBS’ daytime schedule consisting of “The Price is Right,” “The Young and the Restless” and “The Bold and the Beautiful” will air as scheduled on the East Coast without interruption. As for those impacted stations, “Let’s Make a Deal” will be preempted in full or air overnight. The show will air without interruption in markets where it airs preceding “The Price is Right.”

“The Price is Right,” which airs at 11:00 a.m. ET/10:00 a.m. PT, is the only daytime show that will air without interruption coast to coast on all six days of the network’s coverage of the UEFA Champions League games.

UEFA Champions League is an annual competition organized by the Union of European Football Associations as the top 16 clubs in the European tournament each vie for the Coupe des Clubs Champions Européens (aka European Cup) trophy. Clubs competing this year include RB Leipzig (Germany), Real Madrid (Spain), Copenhagen (Denmark), Manchester City (England), Paris Saint-Germain (France), Bayern München (Germany), Internazionale Milano (Italy) and Napoli (Italy), among others.

Ratings for CBS’ broadcast of the UEFA Champions League games haven’t always been stellar, with last year’s final averaging a mere 2.183 million viewers, albeit the game aired on Saturday (June 10, 2023) and started at 3:01 p.m. ET. Of the audience tuning in, 1.049 million were in the key Adults 18-49 demographic. The game was between Manchester City and Internazionale Milano football clubs and did a 0.99 Household rating.

The matches currently scheduled to air on CBS (all starting at 3:00 p.m. ET) include:

    • Copenhagen vs. Manchester City (Tuesday, February 13)
    • Paris Saint-Germain vs. Real Sociedad (Wednesday, February 14)
    • Inter Milan vs. Atlético Madrid (Tuesday, February 20)
    • Napoli vs. Barcelona (Wednesday, February 21)
    • *Bayern Munich vs. Lazio OR Real Sociedad vs. Paris Saint-Germain (Tuesday, March 5)
    • *Manchester City vs. Copenhagen OR Real Madrid vs. RB Leipzig (Wednesday, March 6)

Note*: The matches scheduled to air on CBS on Tuesday, March 5 and Wednesday, March 6 will be determined at a later date. Both matches will stream live on Paramount+.

'Scott Holroyd', he said with reluctance.

Right. I went with what I saw. I totally meant to say, Scott Holroyd.

It might be hard to believe, but @Toups and I do know how to do our job, and we handle things quickly and effectively, publicly and privately. Everyone "is called out and held accountable" equally.

    Errol,

I'm just trying to be and remain cognizant of what we are all guilty of, and that is topic drift. I do not believe my reply was in any way out of line. I am not the only person to mention this & to try to come up with a way to achieve topicality. I believe that it is in fact trying to have a sense of humor about this.

But, listen, if you are going to start posting in this way in threads to call people out, I look forward to what you are going to be hitting an elite group with! It should be very entertaining.

My response to you was in no way me calling anyone out. I was merely pointing out how the previous poster's response was ON topic. As for an "elite group," I believe that title and honor only holds true for myself and @Toups since we've been running the place without interruption for more than 20 years. We can't be replaced. That's as "elite" as one can get, IMO.

    🤣🙃😀

Paul Holroyd was a wonderful Paul on ATWT although I have no idea what the heck this has to do with the topic

Okay, I'll make the effort. Maybe we should let Frank know we liked Paul Holroyd BITD.

    Donna,

@Spoon was responding to a post by @vetsoapfan, which brought up Paul Holroyd as an example of someone who played a character who was later recast with someone else they felt didn't fit the mold of said character, which is based on the topic of GH, which recently recast Jagger with an actor who some feel does not fit the mold of said character. I know you like to respond to nearly every post made on the forum, but you have to understand that people are not responding to just your posts and they don't have to agree with your opinions, like your thinking Holroyd is "wonderful" while someone else says he was "stiff and wooden." Each opinion is valid and shouldn't necessitate a response to counter another opinion with your own just for countering opinion's sake.

Right now, Chris and Dan are gone as head writers, and Patrick and Elizabeth are in. People are using this thread not only to voice their opinion of the change in writers but also to share their hopes and wishes for the new writers. This is a broad topic thread in that sense. All comments are welcome.
