Touched by an Angel took over Sunday 8 pm in Fall 1996, after Murder, She Wrote was cancelled.

Right. What I meant by that was by moving Murder, She Wrote, it gave Touched by an Angel a timeslot to thrive in. Had Murder, She Wrote stayed in its Sunday timeslot and continued to do well, and continued in general, who knows if Touched by an Angel would have succeded the way it did.

I was curious about The Nanny because I thought one of the reasons they finally had Fran and Max get together (after stalling this for at least a year too long, if not longer) was down to ratings erosion. In some ways I felt like that final season was a parting gift and it had reached a natural conclusion at their wedding.

In the interview I watched, the network basically told them to either get Fran and Max together or else. So they got them together. Supposedly ratings started to falter with the move to Wednesdays. The show was lucky to eke out an extra (and final) season on Wednesday nights solely due to how well the wedding did. In the final season, after so many episodes, they rested the show only to later bring it back with episodes leading up to and including the series finale episodes. Only in the summer did we see some of the episodes that were taped before the finale but after the scheduled break.

From Fran's interview, she said the show was moved off Mondays so the network could accommodate Bill Cosby's new (comeback) comedy. When that show failed on Mondays, it bumped The Nanny off the schedule altogether during much of the latter show's final season.

By the time The Nanny returned to CBS, the network wanted to air the series finale during sweeps (those were the days), so they jumped over a number of already taped episodes so it could air the finale during the all-important May ratings period, despite the show having a ratings decline. The remaining episodes, I believe, aired in June or something.

To your point, yes, because they figured the show was ending anyway. At that point, it got what would be considered a "proper sendoff" in terms of series finales. I love, love, love the show, and I still watch clips or full episodes on YouTube almost every day when they upload them. In 2022, I binged the whole series when Max was still HBO Max.

Actually, I take that back, I binged all the episodes within days of it joining the HBO Max (now Max) library. So, that was in April 2021, actually. I remember because I was watching episodes while I was at my brother's house.

100% this. I'm holding myself back from stating further opinions of Les Moonves and his sabotage of Murder, She Wrote as its neither here nor there for this thread.

He did the same thing to The Nanny. Moved it from Mondays to Wednesdays. I recently watched clips where Fran Drescher talks about it, and it was clear Les wanted to make his stamp on the network. Under him, CBS became the CSI and NCIS network. While some of those additions have helped keep CBS in business to this day, it was done so savagely to the detriment of the shows that were doing well on the network. One thing I will point out, though, is that by moving Murder, She Wrote, it helped Touched by an Angel.

Honest, I'm not trying to argue.

Here, what do you mean by the part I have bolded? I ask because the other poster can see & read & choose to post about, etc. on the content of any & all posts you make. Ignore only works one way, to prevent me from having to see them except as you said in cases where they are quoted. And don't misunderstand me, I appreciate Ignore for what it does do. It's just that Block would double it, so to speak. Anyway, don't worry. This is my last post on this subject.

Ideally, the other poster would also ignore someone they don't want to engage with, but at the same time, if someone posts something ON TOPIC they want to respond to, they should have every right to respond to said post. That said, yes, ignoring someone goes both ways and is inevitably the best solution for conflicts. However, if the other person chooses not to ignore you, too, it becomes clear they want the fight, and that should be something we need to look at more closely as admins/moderators.

I leave people to be themselves and not police their speech in any capacity regardless of whether I agree with them or not. In return, I expect people to act like adults.

My always emphasizing the ignore setting is not to be taken lightly. If one can't do that and it becomes a problem for the board, only then will I step in and take action (i.e. ban someone), which I almost always never do -- I'm not a dictator or tyrant like I was back in my early 20s.
I like a stress-free life as much as possible, so if I have to ban someone for any reason...that person truly fucked up. That's not to say that I'm the good cop to @Toups bad cop or that one of us is the one to watch out for in terms of handling the tough calls because we are equals in that regard, but these days I almost always hesitate in stepping in to issue system warnings on posters, ban accounts, etc. Toups has no problems, lol.

But circling back on the ban topic, blocking is not a problem solver. All it does is provide a false sense of anonymity. Just because they or you can't "see posts" (which the ignore feature more than enough accomplishes) doesn't mean they can't open an incognito window (browser) or, while logged out of the community, still see your posts anyway. Even the supposed block feature you're suggesting won't stop it.

What you are suggesting is a block feature that would stop someone from seeing all traces of your content across the site. That's not possible right now and I'm not looking into adding it. If it ever becomes a thing by the developers, then by all means. But until then, I'M not investing any further in anything than what has already been provided.

  5. Donna,

    There is no argument.

I'm just telling you that there is no need for me to waste any further time, energy or resources on a feature that's pretty much already built into the forums by the developers.

It is not my duty or obligation to provide what even a court of law can't, which is to make people invisible wherever they go. The best option is the ignore setting. It can't stop someone from quoting posts that become visible when shared by non-ignored posters, but it can help stop them, or you, from responding to their posts.

Think of it this way... you have a restraining order against someone for some reason. All the police and the courts can do is state how far said person has to stay away from you; they can't stop the person from physically SEEING you unless the distance noted in the order is far enough that it would be impossible (very rare). The same goes for the message boards in that you won't see their posts nor feel the need to respond to their posts unless YOU decide to engage based on seeing their post quoted. If not quoted, you shouldn't ever see their posts. The same goes for the other poster.

Sorry Errol but this is beyond stupid. There is NO reason they can't fix the damn category.

I'm just saying its need is unnecessary. But to your point, even though I disagree with having an age-limited category, they should have at least NEVER messed with the age parameters. What's not broken shouldn't be fixed, or tweaked.

Actually Zack Tinker is returning to Days possibly for his brother's wedding. He posted a picture of himself all dressed up in front of what looked like the Days studio on his Twitter page recently.

What I detailed in the article stands, as one shouldn't take any individual taking part in the "special" as an indication of their return to "Days of our Lives" as the "Weakest Link" episode was taped in 2022, long before four of the eight actors exited the daytime drama series. The possibility of Zach Tinker returning is just a coincidence.

As far as I know, the Daytime Emmys was the only major awards show to include a "younger performer" category. Its elimination is warranted for many reasons, but being the only awards program to include it is a big factor in why it shouldn't even be there.

I've never understood why one's age should determine one's ability to be awarded for one's talents. It's ageist to a certain extent and flawed in general.

    34 minutes ago, dragonflies said:

Damn I say Fix the category don't get rid of it.

As I said above, its elimination is warranted. When there were 10 shows on, it may have made sense, but with just four shows rotating nominees every year, it makes absolutely no sense. For instance, it got to a point where you could always predict the winner or the potential runner-up simply because the eligibility pool just wasn't there. Most actors on soaps right now are also 30 or older, so there is even more reason to remove the category that was determined by age requirements.

  9. NATAS Announces Changes For Daytime Emmys, Including Elimination Of Outstanding Younger Performer Category

It feels like it was only yesterday that the daytime community came together to celebrate the best of the best among dramas, talk shows, entertainment news and courtroom shows, among other daytime staples. Now comes word that beginning with “The 51st Annual Daytime Emmy Awards,” several changes will be taking place, including the elimination of the Outstanding Younger Performer in a Daytime Drama Series category and the Outstanding Promotional Announcement category. Plus, there is a change for eligibility in the Daytime Program Host category.

What are the chances that we could get y'all to add a BLOCK feature? What I mean by that is a function that would make a poster invisible to whomever they set it for? Thanks. If this has been asked before, sorry to duplicate.

That's literally what the ignore feature is for. The only way you can see their posts is if someone, by chance, quotes their post. Beyond that, I'm not wasting my time, resources or energy on such a thing.

  11. Daytime Emmys, National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences

Announced on Thursday by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS), the organization behind the Daytime Emmy Awards, the Outstanding Younger Performer in a Daytime Drama Series category is being eliminated altogether, marking the first time since 1985 that the category will not be presented to a performer (actor or actress) under a certain age.

Starting with “The 47th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards” in 2020, but announced in October 2019, the Outstanding Younger Actor and Outstanding Younger Actress categories were combined into one due to a lack of eligible performers to sustain two separate categories. The most recent ceremony, “The 50th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards,” saw “General Hospital” star Eden McCoy take home the gold for her portrayal as Josslyn Jacks on the daytime drama series. McCoy has since aged out of the category based on rules implemented by NATAS, wherein the age limit for the category was lowered from 25 to 21 and further lowered to 18 (McCoy is now 20).

With the elimination of the Outstanding Younger Performer category, the net for Outstanding Lead, Supporting, and Guest categories has now been widened which means increased competition across the four daytime drama series.

“Programming is always changing, and NATAS continues to adapt its competition rules to reflect these shifts in the television landscape,” said Adam Sharp, President of NATAS. “We’re looking forward to gathering again at the 51st Daytime Emmys to celebrate all the nominees and the entertaining and enlightening programs they create.”

The Call for Entries for “The 51st Annual Daytime Emmy Awards” is now open, effective Thursday, February 1.

What follows is a breakdown of key changes for the Daytime Emmys, starting with “The 51st Annual Daytime Emmy Awards.”

    Daytime Program Host Eligibility

Hosts, Co-Hosts, and Correspondents from Entertainment News and Legal/Courtroom Programs (e.g. the judges and bailiffs) are now eligible within the Daytime Personality – Daily or Daytime Personality – Non-Daily category depending on airing/streaming schedule. They also remain eligible in their respective Program categories but cannot win two Emmy statuettes for the same function, e.g. if a Program wins Outstanding Program and the Hosts win Outstanding Daytime Personality, the statuette defaults to the Host entry. Hosts from the same Program will be included in a single entry with all Hosts, Co-Hosts, Anchors and Correspondents on the same submission and the reel must contain footage that highlights all entrants.

    Daytime Personality – Daily

Honoring Hosts, Co-Hosts, Anchors, and Correspondents on Daytime-eligible content that airs or streams daily AND/OR has more than 52 episodes per calendar year. Eligible genres are: Entertainment News, Legal/Courtroom, Travel/Adventure/Nature, Instructional/How-To, Lifestyle, Arts and Popular Culture, Educational and Informational, and Short Form. Talk Series Hosts and Culinary Hosts remain eligible only in their respective categories.

    Daytime Personality – Non-Daily

Honoring Hosts, Co-Hosts, Anchors, Correspondents, and Narrators on Daytime-eligible content that airs or streams weekly or all at once AND/OR has fewer than 52 episodes per calendar year (regardless of how many were filmed or produced). Eligible genres are: Entertainment News, Legal/Courtroom, Travel/Adventure/Nature, Instructional/How-To, Lifestyle, Arts and Popular Culture, Educational and Informational, Daytime Special, and Short Form. Talk Series Hosts and Culinary Hosts remain eligible only in their respective categories.

For Daytime Hosts, the Talk Series Host and Culinary Host categories remain unchanged.

    Eliminated Categories

    • Outstanding Younger Performer in a Daytime Drama Series (Younger Performers remain eligible to enter Lead, Supporting or Guest categories.)
    • Outstanding Promotional Announcement

    Merged Categories

Outstanding Writing for a Daytime Non-Fiction Series and Outstanding Writing for Daytime Non-Fiction Special have been merged into Outstanding Writing for a Daytime Non-Fiction Program

    Petitioning Off-List Credits

Late Credit Additions are still permitted, as per the parameters above, but ONLY for on-list credits. Off-list credits must be submitted at the time of entry to allow for Awards Administration to seek a full petition if warranted. Off-list credits cannot be submitted late.

    Music Licensing

For categories identified as Music Categories (these are Music Direction and Composition and Original Song in the Daytime Emmys), nominees will be REQUIRED to provide complete publishing information and sign an additional NATAS-issued licensing agreement allowing NATAS to use the music featured in the Ceremony Clip(s). The information will be distributed to nominees only. Failure to provide adequate information AND proper contact information for a legally authorized signer will result in a different clip being selected or replacement of the music with rights-cleared music at NATAS’ discretion.

    Late Credit Additions

NATAS is moving away from a policy of allowing late credit additions after the ceremony date. Please be aware that this is the final year in which Daytime will allow for fee-based changes after the ceremony date. Entrants should be preparing for a streamlined process, including reviewing credits, name spellings, titles, etc., at the time of submission via the Producer’s Proof in Orthicon. To help acclimate the community to our future process, we will be introducing a staggered late credit fee structure:

    • Changes from the entry window close to five business days after the nominations announcement: gratis
    • Changes from six business days after the nominations announcement through the ceremony: $250 per change
    • Changes from the ceremony date through 30 days after the ceremony date: $500 per change **LAST YEAR OF POST-CEREMONY CHANGES**
    • Changes 31+ days after the ceremony: not allowed under any circumstances

On Tuesday, April 2 at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT, the NBC game show “Weakest Link” is set to return with a batch of all-new episodes starting with a special episode featuring cast members from “Days of our Lives.”

Hosted by Jane Lynch (“Glee”), the game follows eight contestants as they work together to bank the maximum amount of prize money available in each round with contestants taking turns answering questions to build chains of correct answers with consecutive correct answers increasing the value of the chain while incorrect answers break the chain and force the contestants to start over from the bottom of the money ladder.

Taking part in the “Days of our Lives” centric episode will be cast members Lindsay Arnold, Bryan Dattilo, Galen Gering, Tina Huang, Victoria Konefal, Martha Madison, Eric Martsolf and Zach Tinker with each competing to earn money for charity.

Despite four of the eight actors listed having exited the soap in recent months, their appearance on “Weakest Link” bears no indication of their possibly returning to the daytime drama series, Soap Opera Network can confirm.

As with many game shows, episodes are taped well in advance. In the case of “Weakest Link,” this particular episode was taped in 2022, ahead of the departures of Arnold, Tinker, Konefal and Madison, who played Allie, Sonny, Ciara and Belle, respectively, on the soap.

In a preview clip for the game show’s return, Lynch introduces the show’s cast starting with a gag that plays up outdated soap troupe’s, including “I’ve gathered together eight ‘Days of our Lives’ stars to earn money for charity, ‘but is that really why I did it?’” She adds, “They’ll face challenging questions ‘like who’s the father of my unborn twin sister’s cousin’s aunt’s dog sitter,’ and a chance to win one million dollars — ‘now I’d like to see these drama queens try. Haha. Thank goodness they can’t hear what I’m thinking, right? [audience laughter] They can’t hear me, can they?’”

After each actor introduces themselves, Lynch joked, “Well that was so boring, it took days off our lives,” playing up the show’s title.

** This is in reference to all the places where embedded tweets hadn't displayed properly for me since January 10.

I'm still on Windows 7 and I haven't changed anything about my computer.  So I guess the issue wasn't with my computer after all.

Since the improvement (for me) is

No idea what the issue was, but it's resolved now. No idea why I can see embedded tweets now, but I can!

Awesome! So happy to hear that this has been resolved. I would hate for you to lose any access to SON, as your presence is truly appreciated around here.

  19. Tyler Christopher, Nikolas Cassadine, General Hospital, GH, GH ABC, #GH, #GeneralHospital, Days of our Lives, DAYS, DOOL, #DAYS, #DOOL,# DaysofourLives

It’s been three months since former “General Hospital” and “Days of our Lives” star Tyler Christopher passed away and now the San Diego Medical Examiner’s Office has officially declared the beloved actor’s death an accident.

According to TMZ, which obtained the official report, Christopher’s cause of death is listed as “positional asphyxia due to acute alcohol intoxication” with the contributing condition cited as “coronary artery atherosclerosis.”

In other words, Christopher died by suffocation as a result of where his body was positioned with the Medical Examiner noting that alcohol played a role in how he ended up that way. A further description indicated “plaque build-up in his arteries,” the outlet shared. Ultimately, Christopher’s cause of death had been declared accidental.

It was back in October when the world learned that Tyler Christopher had passed away with what was then reported to be a “cardiac event.”

Christopher’s former “General Hospital” co-star Maurice Benard first announced the actor’s passing on Instagram, saying, “Tyler was a truly talented individual that lit up the screen in every scene he performed and relished bringing joy to his loyal fans through his acting.

“Tyler was a sweet soul and wonderful friend to all of those who knew him. Tyler was an advocate for better mental health and substance use treatment who openly spoke about his struggles with bipolar depression and alcohol. We are beyond devastated by the loss of our dear friend and pray for his children and his father.”

During a 2022 conversation with Benard for the podcast series “State of Mind” which Benard hosts, Christopher said that after spending decades as a functioning addict that things changed “in the last 10 years, it went the other way because, you know, you become an addict at 9 years old, fast-forward 40 years, at some point, you cannot survive it. At some point, it will kill you.”

A few days after Christopher died, TMZ reported that it was a close friend of the late actor who found him unresponsive in his San Diego apartment after the individual had been unable to get in touch with him. The friend reportedly gained access to Christopher’s apartment with a key they had been previously provided by the actor. Law enforcement was called and arrived at around 9:30 a.m. local time on Tuesday, October 31, 2023. Christopher was found in his bedroom and appeared to have been “dead for some time,” the outlet noted.

Making his television acting debut in 1996 when he joined the cast of “General Hospital” as Nikolas Cassadine, the long-lost forgotten first son of Laura Collins (Genie Francis), Christopher quickly became a favorite with fans before opting to depart the series in 1999 for other endeavors. He reprised the role again beginning in 2003 and remained with the show through 2011. He again returned from 2013-2016. In 2017, Christopher joined “Days of our Lives” as Stefan DiMera. He departed in 2019 when the role was recast with former “General Hospital” co-star Brandon Barash.

Tyler Christopher was just 50 years old when he died. The late actor is survived by his two children, son Greysun Baker (born in 2009) and daughter Boheme Baker (born in 2015), both from his previous marriage to former ESPN reporter Brienne Pedigo, his second wife.

  20. Mishael Morgan, Amanda Sinclair, The Young and the Restless, The Young & the Restless, Young and the Restless, Young & the Restless, Young and Restless, Young & Restless, Y&R, #YR, #YoungandRestless

In an Instagram Reel posted yesterday, Mishael Morgan revealed that she’ll soon be back on “The Young and the Restless,” where she’ll appear again as Amanda Sinclair, the role that won her a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series in 2022.

In the short clip, Morgan is seen looking over her character’s wardrobe as she smiles and waves to the camera as the song “…Ready for It?” by Taylor Swift plays, overlaying the video.

In the post caption, Morgan wrote, “Guess who’s popping in for a visit!!!”

At press time, it was unknown when Morgan would mark her return to the series nor for how long. However, based on Morgan’s post, don’t expect her to appear on screen for long; it’s just a “visit.”

Since Morgan published her Instagram Reel, the post has been viewed more than 30,000 times and received over 2,500 likes and roughly 275 comments, including from some of Morgan’s co-stars at “The Young and the Restless” such as Tracey Bregman, Melissa Ordway and Lauralee Bell, among others.

“Yay!!” cheered Bregman. “So happy to see your beautiful face today,” said Bell. “Love our Amanda/Abby dynamic,” commented Ordway.

In late 2022, Morgan decided not to renew her contract with the daytime drama series so that she would have more free time to explore other career opportunities. Since then, she’s appeared on the soap on a recurring basis, with her last appearance being in March 2023.

In addition to her return visit to “The Young and the Restless,” Morgan is also celebrating her film “Sway” making its premiere at the Pan-African Film Festival in Los Angeles next month. The film, which Morgan stars in and executive produced, follows a community leader (played by Emmanuel Kabongo) who has it all until his life spirals out of control within hours after his brother goes missing. Between being blackmailed by a strange woman and getting himself entangled in a murder, he’ll soon find out how far he will go to protect the ones he loves.

Originally titled “Spiral,” “Sway” wrapped production in late April 2023 in Toronto, Canada, and was written by Charlie Hamilton, who also directed the film alongside Zach Ramelan.

“The first film I ever executive produced premiers at the Pan-African Film Festival in LA on February 8th and 9th!!!! Hope to see you there!!!!” said Morgan about the movie on Instagram. “This was a true labour of love and I am so honoured to be on this journey with you @emmkab.”

  21. Kimberlin Brown, Sheila Carter, Kate Schettler, Diana, The Bold and the Beautiful, Bold and the Beautiful, Bold and Beautiful, Bold & the Beautiful, Bold & Beautiful, B&B, #BoldandBeautiful

Eagled-eyed fans of “The Bold and the Beautiful have been in a tizzy for the last couple of days, first with Kimberlin Brown (Sheila Carter) sharing an interesting video clip on her Instagram page on Friday, and then at the end of Monday’s episode, the weekly closing credits were shown with the full cast listed, including contract and recurring players. The name listed at the end of that list is where things got even more interesting.

In Brown’s video, the actress is seen sitting down in her dressing room with a script in hand as she looks over what’s coming up on the show. Soon after reading, she drops the script on the desk with a “don’t know what to think”-like expression on her face, leading her to place both hands over her forehead. The song “…Ready For It?” by Taylor Swift overlays the video. Before placing the script down, one of the character names shown on the front page of the script is that of someone named “Diana.”

What’s the connection, you might ask?

Well, in the aforementioned closing credits, a character named “Diana” was shown and attributed to singer and actress Kate Schettler, whose previous TV credits include an under-five appearance on “General Hospital” last year as a “helpful nurse” and the role of Nora in the Lifetime TV movie “Secret Society of Lies,” where she played a mother investigating those who are attacking female students at a school, including her character’s daughter. Schettler’s other credits include appearances in at least five other TV shows since 2016, among other roles.

Since Brown’s posting included the name “Diana” and the show’s credits listed Schettler as playing a character named “Diana,” one would assume that the two are connected, especially when considering Brown’s famous villain once birthed a daughter whom she named Diana Carter from an encounter she had with Massimo Marone (played by the late Joseph Mascolo). Turns out, you’d be wrong.

Sources tell Soap Opera Network that Schettler is appearing on the daytime drama series as “Diana,” but the character is that of a realtor working with Bill Spencer (Don Diamont) for the Malibu beach house, which was recently vacated by Bill’s son, Wyatt (Darin Brooks), who in-story left Los Angeles for grander pastures.

So, there you have it! For now, at least, the Diana we’ll soon see on screen, as played by Schettler, is not the same Diana online chatter seems to be clamoring for.

Check out Brown’s Instagram post below.
